View Full Version : Forget the left vs. right for a second...

I know it's hard to believe that someone in California is a Democrat, but I have a question. And forget left vs. right for a second. I don't even want to discuss what he's saying in the video because it has nothing to do with my point.

First, here's the video:
http://www.breitbart.tv/html/171553.html

Now, why in the fuck is Matt Damon so important that we need to hear what he thinks about this? I love how at the start of the video it says:

"MATT DAMON: ACTOR"

Oh, fuck me, an actor, I better listen up. Why does the media do this stupid shit? Why the hell do people listen to these idiots and think their life is better because "Matt Damon" gave his opinion about something?

It reminds me of this:

He knows what a bad script looks like.

Imagine him sitting down with his buddy Ben, over a couple of beers. Jen walks in ...

Ben: "Honey ... tell Matt about that last script you got ..."
Jen: "They wanted me to play a hockey Mom ... in Alaska. Can you believe it? We fell on hard times, my daughter was pregnant ..."
Matt: "Is this acoal miners daughter kinda thing?"
Ben: "Nah ... let her finish."
Jen: "I wanted to make a difference in the world ... clearing the forests of wolves so I could hunt more moose .. making it safer for putting in an oil pipeline. Whatever. So, I got my friends together, and had they elected me as the mayor of a small town."
Matt: "Sound like the Coen boys again ..."
Ben: "More like Dukes of Hazzard."
Jen: "Shhhh. I'm tellin this story ... anyway I become mayor. Then I fight for money to build a palace ... OK, a bridge."
Matt: "Where did the bridge go?"
Jen: "that not important. I fought for the bridge. Then when I couldn't get the money, I fought the crooked Governor and his daughter so I could get the money for the bridge. Then I became the Governor, and got the money we needed for the bridge by a back door. That kinda thinking made me popular in Washington, so the decided to make me VP."
Matt: "Wow. That sounds like a really bad Disney movie ... the Weinsteins picked it up huh?"
Ben: "Sad, isn't it. Hey! Look at that Top Gun is on TV again. I love Maverick's wingman."

Because he's constantly in the public eye. His endorsement, sad as it is, will get votes. Personally, I would rather see Matt Damon put some tohught in it and do an interview about Sarah Palin than look at a photo of him at the McDonalds drive-thru. I really don't see what the problem is. There are plenty of videos, I'm sure, of totally ordinary citizens giving there thoughts.

A total aside, I don't want the thread to derail this way, if you feel like responding to this start a new thread: I have relatives that don't believe in dinosaurs. It wasn't long ago that I found this out. I really didn't think people could be THAT closeminded.

Personally, I would rather see Matt Damon put some tohught in itYea, that might help. It sort of hurts him when his first few sentences are:

"...and I think that's a really scary thing. Because I don't know anything about her."

Umm..... hrm....

Even still, it's just some random fucking dudes opinion. That'd be like you seeing on whatever news channel you guys watch...

"TONIGHT: CRUMBLES, FORUM POSTER, THOUGHTS ON OBAMA"

Like seriously. Who the FUCK cares.

I almost wish people wouldn't do this. I like his movies, but now I'm going to always remember what an idiot I think he is. I almost wish REV3 people didn't publicly announce their support. Like Kevin's Obama sticker on his laptop. Save that for off air. Fuck.

Granted REV3 is obviously hardcore left, but there are some non-lefties out there who are going to tune in and see that and go.. oh... here we go... It may not lose too many people, but why lose any at all? Does he really think someone is going to see that and go, Fuck, that's it, he just made up my mind, it's Obama for me!

Yea, that might help. It sort of hurts him when his first few sentences are:

"...and I think that's a really scary thing. Because I don't know anything about her."I think thats actually a sentiment that is pretty common right now. Unless you give a flying fuck about Alaska, you are asking yourself "Who the hell is this woman?"

Looking forward to the photo op as Private Palin is deployed to Iraq, it will make a great background shot for the first interview with ABC.

I don't think that will happen as Captain Biden gets deployed next month. People know who Joe Biden is.

Well, my point was:

"I'm scared to hell about her!"

"why?"

"I don't even know her!"

"So why are you scared of her?"

"I'm Matt Damon!"

"Hey, does Kevin use product in his hair, I would like to use it too."
"I bet Kevin smells nice, what kind of soap is he using?"
"Where can I buy Kevin's pants?"

Creepy ... so someone voting Obama because that nice young man Matt Damon said to on Entertainment Tonight ... not a stretch at all.

matt damon is a private citizen. he has a right to speak his mind just like everyone else.

you say this isn't a left or right thing but it really is. you never hear people bitching about clint eastwood or bruce willis "shooting their mouths off".

fact of the matter is if you would have agreed with matt damon you would have never said a word.

a) It is amazingly obvious who you prefer Crumbles. Heck, I can tell where you get your news since you quote a lot.

b) comhcinc-rocking comment

c) Kevin is a geek people can relate to (no ivy league degree, parties, etc) so people idolize him. I see it all the time here with LeBron. It feels like one of your own made good.

d) there are morons everywhere who base their decisions on following those their admire than actually finding out the positions on issues and such. There are people who are going to vote because for McCain because of Dr. Dobson now coming on board because of Sarah Palin. In fact, there is a lot more people who will probably vote based on his comments than there are people who will vote for Obama because of Matt Damon.

e) Damon wasn't completely wrong. I want to know more about her such as the book banning thing, the separatist thing and my personal favorite the evolution thing. She has not been interviewed yet and no one from the campaign has been willing to answer any of these questions so it is all speculation. I am willing to give her a chance, but she does scare me.

Technically the Cleveland Mayor has had a larger population (city proper is a 100,000 smaller than all of Alaska but the Mayor works regionally so it is more like 2.2 mil), more issues such as crime, economy issues, education issues, potential terrorism issues (one of the 13 fed reserves are here and a whole bunch of military stuff), bigger budgets and national security experience than her, and I would scream running for Brazil if that nutjob was selected for the VP role.

In all honesty, this feels really weird that she was nominated for the VP job. It feels like she was chosen to make a play for my demographic which makes me immediately feel off. I don't understand Mc Cain's logic and normally I can follow him completely, that is one of the reasons I adore him. So, yes, there are a lot of questions. Frankly, aside from hardcore Republicans who support based on party, the majority of people are going "Who is this Sarah Palin person?" and rightly so.

I want to hear from her on it. Why did she ask the librarians to repost for their positions? That is not normally seen as a political appointment so it isn't like this is a common occurrence. What was the reasoning behind it? I think that is a very reasonable question. The article states no books were banned. Nothing stated ever said she was successful at banning books. I understand the position that is being stated that she was trying to better understand the policy but what is so confusing about the policy? And why did residents feel that she wasn't questioning the policy to understand it but more to challenge it? The article didn't answer that at all. I want to hear her take on it. So far it has been rather one sided, I want to get her side. And not by the spin doctors.

Here is the problem with this anti-Matt position on the issue:

He was asked for his opinion on the matter, by the Associated Press, a reputable news organization in the United States. He did not schedule a press conference, he didn't go on a tirade on the Tonight Show, it was a simple question of his opinion.

Other than his celebrity, what the hell would be the difference if the Associate Press knocked on your door and asked you the same question? Absolutely nothing... He is an American, his vote counts just as well as yours, and to that end, he is entitled to answer the question as he see fits when asked. He is echoing a perfectly rational conclusion that a lot of Americans have drawn out of this situation, and I'm glad that someone had the balls to come out on TV and say it, celebrity or not.

====

On the flip side:

Would people be complaining if Bruce Willis was in the same situation and made comments about how he thinks Obama is unfit for office?

You've gotta look at both sides of the issue here...

Same story here. I'm all for low taxes, small government, and continuing the push for civil rights that the GOP championed decades ago... But that has all fallen by the wayside.

While this is my first election I'll be of age to vote in (I missed the 04 election by a month), I've been political a long time.
