So I'm thinking next tuesday that I'm going to to take the plunge and get a PS3. With that I plan on getting Uncharted and Force unleashed. Now I'm not really a fan of the MGS games but I heard that bundle is actually a good deal so if I can find it I might pick that up. I already have a HDMI cable for the system but do you guys have any other games or other PS3 stuff I should pick up while I'm there?
Thanks

I wish I could help you. I just sold some games back to Gamestop and I couldn't find any PS3 games to buy. However, they didn't have copies Ratchet and Clank.
I think that they're going to release some "Greatest Hits" titles for the PS3 soon. So, you might want to hold off buying anything more than a few months old.
I'll probably get "The Force Unleased" next week. Or, I'll buy Spore for my PC later today... I haven't decided.

I'll second R&C: ToD, and add Warhawk.
Warhawk is one of the Greatest Hits titles, so you can pick it up for $30.
I've just gotten back into it (it was my first PS3 title) now that they have trophy support, and it's as much fun as ever.

Cool I'm not much of a racing or car guy so with that being said is burnout still something I would want? Also I already have CoD4 for the 360 so I won't rebuy that one. I don't have anything against the MGS line but I never really had the urge to play them If I get the MSG bundle system I'll play it. What about other FPS games where the single player modes holds up to be worth the price of the game?
Warhawk does look fun I forgot about that one. and I would really like a old platform game like R&C so I think I'll check that one out as well.
As far as hardware as long as I have the HDMI cable I sould be able to hook it up and play right out of the box right?
Thanks for the help looks like I've got lots of good games to choose from.

Oh yeah, Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction is a good one. Hmmm, your not a racing fan........I guess I'd kinda toss my hand in the air and say just give the demo a try. Criterion is adding Motorcycles, Day/Night and Weather in their next FREE update for the game.
Oh yeah! DUH!
-Resistance: Fall of Man (FPS, Very fun)
Like I said, I'm kinda just tossing out games as they come to me. If your a FPS fan there is a LOT in the coming months that will make you VERY happy.
Resistance 2 (November 4th)
Mirror's Edge (November 11th, My personal fav.)
Killzone 2 (January)
Other than those:
LittleBigPlanet (October 21st)
Motorstorm 2: Pacific Rift (October)
PURE (September 16th, I'm lovin' this game)

I also don't like racing. The only exceptions are: Final Lap Twin (racing RPG), and Excite Truck. I don't regret buying Burnout at all, though I don't play it much anymore. I did put over 40 hours into it though. Most people put more than that into it. I saw it at EB yesterday for $29.99 new. And they're adding new content all the time.
Also I already have CoD4 for the 360 so I won't rebuy that one.
I sold COD4... I can't go back to it after Battlefield. Do you have Battlefield yet? :D It's getting trophies patched in soon... I'm looking for a friend...
I'll get WaW because of co-op, though.

I had the original MGS and hated it. Skipped all up to MGS4, but I loved MGS4. As I said in other threads, it is the most epic game I've ever played (especially towards the end). It actually made me cry a little, and I'm only admitting to that because I'm comfortable with the epicness of the game. You can play it in first-person mode if you want, but I stuck to third and used iron-sights for ranged shots. If you go into it knowing that there is more cinematics and story than gameplay, and are fine with that, then you'll be more able to enjoy it. I didn't find it a big deal to have so much story, and the story wasn't exactly hard to follow, either. Sure, I'm missing parts of the backstory, but I think MGS4 can stand on its own, as it did for me.
Other FPS games I recommend: Battlefield!!! Resistance (and the sequel when it drops in November - looks sick, single player campaign, 8-player co-op campaign, plus 60-player online battles), Haze was "ok" as a rental, but don't pay more than $10 for it (good controls, but the rest is pretty lame), Medal of Honor: Airborne. Currently playing through TimeShift and already finished FEAR, both of which I didn't mind (especially considering I paid about $20 each).
Other games I have played and liked and would recommend (you might have played some, as some are multi-platform):
- NHL 09
- Folklore (more action/adventure than RPG)
- darkSector
- Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom (cheap now.. $10-15, decent for the price.. low-end action RPG sorta game.. a little like Diablo or Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, but not as good)
- Oblivion
- Uncharted (you mentioned you're getting it, it's good)
- Ninja Gaiden Sigma (hard)
I plan to buy because they look good (also, some are multi-platform):
- LittleBigPlanet
- inFAMOUS
- Fallout 3
- CoD: World at War
- Heavy Rain
- God of War 3
- Mirror's Edge (exclusive DLC for PS3 version)
- BioShock (since I don't have a 360 or Windows)
- Resistance 2 (as I mentioned)
- Far Cry 2
- Dead Space
- Killzone 2
- SOCOM Confrontation (beta open now)
- more I'm forgetting I'm sure
PSN games to buy (usually $5-10):
- Super Stardust HD
- The Last Guy
- Elefunk
- echochrome
- Bionic Commando Rearmed (if you don't have it)
- PixelJunk Monsters
- PixelJunk Eden
- 1942: Joint Strike (if you don't have it)
- Commando 3 (if you don't have it)
- Everyday Shooter
- Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty ($15)
- JEOPARDY! (maybe - comes out today, no idea if it's good, but has online and voice chat)
PSN games for the future:
- Fat Princess
- Wheel of Fortune
- Savage Moon
- WipEout HD
Warhawk does look fun I forgot about that one. and I would really like a old platform game like R&C so I think I'll check that one out as well.
I got Warhawk, and I liked it until I got Battlefield. I still try it occasionally, but everyone is so bloody good and I feel like I am losing the whole time (maybe cuz I am), whereas Battlefield always makes me feel like I have a chance, even when I'm losing horribly. Not sure why. Must be the pretty explosions.
Ratchet & Clank Future is great. Be sure to get the disc version before the PSN download sequel, as the latter is a sequel indeed, and it only makes sense to play them in sequence.
As far as hardware as long as I have the HDMI cable I sould be able to hook it up and play right out of the box right?

I am really loving my PS3 more now. I'm slowly finding reasons to turn on my 360 anymore. I've got BioShock which I return to so I really recommend that when it hits the PS3. Also, I'd recommend maybe upgrading your hard drive. I just found out how to use Windows Media Player to act as a server for my PS3. So I copied over an episode of Top Gear I had and watched it. It is so much simpler to access my media with the PS3 over the 360 I think. So can't recommend that enough, because I hated connecting the X Box to Windows Media Center if it worked (hit or miss sometimes).
With that said recommendations:
BioShock (best experience I've had playing a game)
Ratchet & Clank (haven't played but looks like lots of fun)
Heavenly Sword (wanna try it, anyone recommend it?)
Little Big Planet (more I hear, more I want it)
Home (it sounds like what I want from Sims & Spore)
Need For Speed games (fun arcade style racing games, rent them first)
Resistance
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (Tomb Raideresque)
PSN demos: some I'm enjoying and may buy. some not so much.

Heavenly Sword (wanna try it, anyone recommend it?)
There is a demo in the PSN Store you can try. I've heard the full game is better... I tried this demo, but it just felt like 3000 enemies attacking me in waves on top of a pillar or something.
The full game is short, but supposedly has more variety than the demo.

Well SWTFU is getting many not so great reviews already so may want to hold that as a rental to be safe.
I am not sure the game was fully finished before release as Lucas arts fired the teams while it was in development.
Dead space looks awesome though.

Yeah.. I've said similar elsewhere, didn't feel like repeating it, lest the Star Wars nerds think I have a vendetta against them (I don't, just the game isn't worth my money).
And next week we get to see if LucasArts did any better with Fracture, as demos hit the PSN and XBLM... I've got money on "more suckage." Any takers?

Interesting, I felt the exact opposite. After playing CoD4 I could not go back to Battlefield.
As for recommendations, if you are thinking about stream content from a PC or watching DVD/BD movies. I highly recommend the "Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote" seriously, it's probably the best thing for the PS3 when using it as a media player.

I may have to pick that up myself. The PS3 was a early gift/family thing for our living room so now it's our primary DVD player/Blu-Ray(when we get the TV 4 it)/and everything else. So I'll definitely be getting me one of those.

Yeah, I had it pre-ordered for the Wii, then played the demo on my PS3 and decided I'd rent it first and canceled the pre-order.
Definitely try out Burnout Paradise...it seems to have appeal to even the non-racing types.
Remote is useful, even when not watching videos...and a must, for me, for watching discs.
Bah, can't think of anything that hasn't been mentioned, offhand. I'd say, get a big hard drive to upgrade and go onto PSN and download all of the demos. Hell, I still have demos for games I own, just for times I'm wanting a taste but don't want to swap discs.

I'd recommend getting a Digital Optical Audio Cable (or whatever... one of these (http://www.amazon.com/Fiber-Optical-Toslink-Digital-Interface/dp/B0002MQGOK/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1221587437&sr=8-1)) so you can get some amazing audio from your games. Gonna be particularly good for things like Bioshock coming up and whatnot.
I'd also get some PSN games, I've loved every single one I've downloaded, and they're super cheap, so even if you don't enjoy them, how much are you really out? Especially Everyday Shooter, it sounds ridiculously good with in 5.1 Surround Sound to me.
Also, be sure to check out TVersity (http://tversity.com/) (heres a tutorial (http://www.coderetard.com/2008/06/22/turn-ps3-into-a-media-server-with-tversity/) as well) to stream media to the PS3 easily. Because of this, I use the PS3 like, almost everyday.
One more thing, look into optimizing the settings for your whole setup. There are a couple things in there that should definitely be tweaked for better picture and such.

It is sublime for me, the music is gorgeous, and absolutely perfect for each level and... oddly catchy. The levels are fast-paced and chaotic at times, but they make you use your head, in figuring out how to quickly dispatch tons of enemies, as just blasting them head-on all the time ain't gonna fly, and isn't gonna get you very many points. It's very reminiscent of Rez, actually. I like it, it's kind of my "cool-down" game, after some COD4 or what have you. :)

That's funny. I was playing Uncharted at a friend's house and he said it was the best looking game he'd ever seen, and I reminded him of Crysis. It took some convincing but I persuaded him that indeed the graphics are better in Crysis when it comes to the amount of polygons, the resolution, the lighting realism etc. However, Uncharted is really gorgeous from an artistic point of view. Compostion, mood and lighting is really interesting in that game and that means a lot.
Although in my humble opinion Crysis had some breath-taking moments as well, if not cooler than Uncharted. Remember when you had just gotten out of the bubble and the forest was cold but not freezing? That blew my mind...

I'm not sure I would get CoD 4 since number 5 is going to be released in November.
I'm just kinda stunned when I look at the coming release schedule for the PS3, so many games coming, I need more monies and time for all of this hehe :D
Just to mention a few:
- Star Wars Force Unleashed
- Little Big Planet
- BioShock (i only played the demo on PC)
- FarCry 2
- FallOut3
- CoD 5
- Need for Speed Undercover
- Resistance 2

I haven't seen Crysis on a PC worth talking about, but considering what you need to play that game with any kind of beauty and smoothness, I don't really care how much more beautiful it is than any other game, I don't even factor it in.
That being said, I was never in love with Uncharted's graphics, and I don't really care about what looks best. Games these days, on PS3 and 360 and high-end PCs, can all look good enough for my liking.
However, Far Cry 2 looks pretty sweet - I have decided it's a strong contender for Best Sun In A Video Game 2008. I don't know how similar it looks to Crysis, but the footage (compressed, no less) I've seen, looked great.

first thing to do is look at this:
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/campaigns/campaigntemplate.asp?CampaignID=716
EA has created a set of specs to hit to make a cheap gaming machine that'll run Crysis at high level. You can see my stats in my sig, it ran perfectly well at high settings. According to the guys at EA 1 Million copies had been sold by February. Last I heard on an interview with the guys at Crytek they've since sold an additional million copies. It's an amazingly beautiful game, but yes, you'll need to build a machine that is built not only to be fast, but to their specs. It's not as expensive as you may think.

Well, $699 is more expensive than a PS3, and that system is going to be out of date in a year or two when the next "Crysis" comes out and pushes PC hardware to the limits. Even so, I don't care so much about the cost of a PC - I don't want to run Windows. I haven't run it since mid-2002, and I'm not about to go back to it.
I lived through the "Oh, I'm sorry, your 7-month-old PC can't run this new game that you have been anticipating for six months. Time to spend a few hundred dollars to upgrade your CPU! Oh wait, your motherboard can't handle a better CPU - better get a new motherboard too, that'll be another couple hundred dollars! Oh snap, that RAM ain't gonna work in this new motherboard! Add another hundred bucks! Haha, sucker, now you need to ditch that PCI nVIDIA card and get an AGP card! Oh, now you need Windows 98 to run the game! Oh, would you look at that, there are no video drivers for this video card for Windows 98 yet!" and I'm not going to do it again.
Is there a Mac version of Crysis? I'd buy a Mac... Maybe. Actually, no. I won't buy any game system, computers included, for just one game.
I'm so out of the loop for hardware. I haven't had to upgrade my PC since I ditched Windows, so I've got old stuff which is running perfectly fine. My web browser and email and text editors can only go so fast, and I can't type faster than my old-ass CPU, so I'm good until this hardware dies. I don't really recognize anything in your signature, yet I used to work in retail and I knew my shit back then, and I could tell you the specs of a PC I sold back then just going from memory.
And I don't like keyboard and mouse, which is another reason I stopped even buying and beta testing Linux games (the few that there are) and bought a Logitech TrackMan for computer input and a PlayStation for gaming.
I get that you hate your PS3 and you only use it for Blu-ray. I get that you prefer mouse and keyboard to gamepads. I get that PCs aren't nearly as expensive as they used to be. But I just don't want to go back to that world, no matter how pleasant it might appear to you now. My experiences have tarnished my opinion of the whole scene, and I'm very happy with my Linux computers and my PS3 games.

Yeah, basically, but you're better off getting the official Sony one (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/09/03/official-bluetooth-headset-for-the-playstation-3/) that comes with SOCOM: Confrontation (for $10 more than getting it by itself), as it integrates better with the PS3, and has several other interesting features exclusive to it.

I have the one from Warhawk but only used to for about a day after it annoyed the heck out of me. I guess I'm old school cause' I actually like my USB Headset. I dunno, with a bluetooth I feel like I can't tell how loud I am as opposed to the USB Headset with the boom right in front of my mouth/side of my face. lots to address here so I'll go item by item.
Well, $699 is more expensive than a PS3, and that system is going to be out of date in a year or two when the next "Crysis" comes out and pushes PC hardware to the limits.
Hardware driving games are not that common of late. Prior to Crysis I can the previous example was Halflife 2 and that was 2004.
Even so, I don't care so much about the cost of a PC - I don't want to run Windows. I haven't run it since mid-2002, and I'm not about to go back to it.
I am not trying to convince you to buy a PC, we were simply talking about how the game looked and you brought up costing on a PC that could run it. I felt I needed to point out that this is not in fact the case as I keep seeing comments like this and I know it's not true.
I lived through the "Oh, I'm sorry, your 7-month-old PC can't run this new game that you have been anticipating for six months. Time to spend a few hundred dollars to upgrade your CPU! your call, but personally I research my PC hardware purchases quite heavily prior to purchase to ensure the upgrade path will be as cheap as possible and as minimal as possible. If you don't research you won't know what technologies to be building for. I was able to avoid large investment in many of the items that you're referring to buy building smart.
Is there a Mac version of Crysis? I'd buy a Mac... Maybe. Actually, no. I won't buy any game system, computers included, for just one game.
No Mac version yet. Good call on not buying for one game, I wouldn't either. Given what is happening in DRM from EA I feel that PC gaming may have been dealt yet another death blow.
I'm so out of the loop for hardware. I haven't had to upgrade my PC since I ditched Windows, so I've got old stuff which is running perfectly fine. My web browser and email and text editors can only go so fast, and I can't type faster than my old-ass CPU, so I'm good until this hardware dies. well if you're not in PC gaming I wouldn't really bother researching, there's so much info that it's quite simple to drown in it.
And I don't like keyboard and mouse, which is another reason I stopped even buying and beta testing Linux games (the few that there are) and bought a Logitech TrackMan for computer input and a PlayStation for gaming.
I am really not trying to sell you on PC gaming, I'm simply talking about how beautiful Crysis is. If it's not your bag, it's not your bag.
I get that you hate your PS3 and you only use it for Blu-ray.
I think this was the only line that offended me... I love my PS3 and I do a hell of a lot more than play Blu-Ray movies.
I get that you prefer mouse and keyboard to gamepads.
yes I do prefer mouse and keyboard, but thanks to the magic of the FragFX I am able to get mostly that experience on my PS3 games.
I get that PCs aren't nearly as expensive as they used to be. But I just don't want to go back to that world, no matter how pleasant it might appear to you now. My experiences have tarnished my opinion of the whole scene, and I'm very happy with my Linux computers and my PS3 games.
No argument here, you know what's best for you, My point is that Crysis is the best looking game out there right now and it won't cost an arm and a leg to get into PC rig that'll play it and everything else out right now quite well.

I didn't mean to offend you by anything I wrote at all. I was under the impression from previous threads you posted in that you didn't game on your PS3 at all. I probably confused you with someone else, I guess... I don't know. I'd have to go digging, and I'd rather admit it was my bad and go on knowing that you love your PS3. That's good. :)
My buddy wants to get a FragFX, but he can't find one. I see why even eBay.ca has dried up - looks like the FragFX 2 is in the works. I've actually considered getting one myself, but I've gotten very comfortable with the twin sticks now that I'll probably just save my money.
Anyhow, I doubt I can do anything to this PC, as it's a Socket A with SDRAM, IDE hard drives, AGP video card.. All of that is way outdated by Socket 86niner, DDR2, SATA2, and PCI-e or whatever. Some day, I will upgrade, but even then, it won't likely be for gaming. :)

not to worry :) I'm a long time firm supporter of the PS3 and I love what it can do with my PSP.
On the FragFX I did have to search mine out, I think I eventually found it at EB Games. I'd be interested to see what they'll do to the FragFX 2 to make it better. I know that the mouse movement and fine tuning could stand to use a bit of an overhaul, but given the difference in game experience that I have with it over a regular gamepad I'm more than happy to put up with it. Dont' take that the wrong way though, I'd not even dream of playing a racing game with the Frag FX. It's just about the right tool for the right job. If they could enable keyboard and mouse control in all gaming I'd dump PC gaming I'm sure. Still, As of right now the beauty of many PC titles keeps me locked in... that and RTS and FPS games that while they're getting closer to the right experience on consoles is still not as good. It's strange to me that either Sony or MS haven't made that final step and asked that all FPS games get this support because I'm sure you'd see huge gains in sales from anyone that did.
Anyway... nice ramble eh? sorry, it's late. Have a good one.

Actually, it boggles my mind that the PS3 only has one game with keyboard and mouse support so far... The ability is there, it's just up to the developers to bother putting support in... I wish Sony would spend some resources working on gamepad emulation via kb/mouse at a system level, as that would be ideal, and it really shouldn't take that much to do it, compared to coding say, Home..
What's even more puzzling are the developers working on The Agency. They're using the different control devices as an excuse to possibly ditch cross-platform play. That's just silly. Last I checked, you could use a variety of gamepads on PCs, including the DualShock 3, and with keyboard and mouse supported by the PS3, it's really a non-issue... I don't get it.
The biggest problem I see with keyboards (solved by the FragFX) is the binary nature of a keystroke.. For movement, at least in some games, it can be a problem, as sometimes you want to move slowly. I tried a SmartJoy Frag on the original Xbox and for some games it was fine, but Thief, for example, was unplayable because if you tried to move, you were moving full-speed and you would be heard.
Speaking of Thief, I'd love a new Thief game on the PS3..... Come on, Eidos. Make it happen!
