My cable bill is due, and I don't want to pay it if I am going to be sucked into a lifeless void (I mean other than Cinemax).

I'm so disenchanted now. I guess my only solace will come in 2012 when the apocalypse/rapture/ragnarok happens.
I mean, it's not like that can be off too. :)

........lol like i said months ago. no big deal.
........lol like i said months ago. no big deal.
well in actuality it is a big deal
big as in size big as in money and big as in collective big brain power
and possibly of big import to first the uber smart physicists and through them eventually to everybody

It's an extremely big deal in terms of what it might teach us about the origins of the universe, but the odds of the purported black hole actually happening are so slim (less than one in 50 million (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/15/science/15risk.html?ex=1365912000&en=0a3855d9fa3e587c&ei=5124&partner=digg&exprod=digg)) that they're practically nonexistent.

The first "potential" risks of black holes being created are supposed to be on the 21st of October, when they start doing high energy collisions.

Um. If something is going to cause catastrophic damage that can be avoided why is the time to care AFTER it happened? The damage has already been done thing.
*Not saying something catastrophic is going to happen. Just questioning your thinking behind it.

Are you not saying we shouldn't worry about this until it's already happened? How does that make any sense? Then the damage has already been done and there's nothing we can do about it. Isnt the time to worry before hand so you can change the outcome?

sorry but if that happened it wouldn't be anything to worry about. we wouldn't be here to worry.

IF there was going to be a black whole wouldn't it make more sense to worry BEFORE it happened. You said don't worry until they actually do it.
Oh, and thanks for not reading what I said in my other post.

you whole responsive is base off of the black hole. that is just too funny.
my point has been that this thing isn't a big deal until they do something useful with it. the black hole thing never even crossed my mind.

We are not going to get sucked in black holes.

If I was one of the people worried about this thing it would be more about creating another big bang than a black hole. :D

It's a well documented fact that Coop created a small one when he spilled liquid cheese in MEGAS's CPU core. If Coop can do it, why not CERN?

it is way over his head
therefore he has to belittle it

nothing is important unless / until comhcoinc decides it is so it doesn't matter if you or they collect a nobel you or they get billions in funding if you or they are on the cover of every magazine and word of your or they fill the internet
until he says you count you are nobody and nothing
he is still waiting to see google crash and burn so he can say

we have 'debated' before have you forgotten
in fact on this very subject amongst others
so yeah i know your style from experience over a year not pretense
you belittle people all the time comhcinc your whole manner here is one of belittlement
if you don't realize that then maybe you should
last i heard you were in school studying music biz not theoretical physics
if you can't take it don't dish it :)

again i ask you what gives the right to belittle my opinion? if that is all i do (as you claim) and you feel that this is a bad way to behave ( as you infer) why is it okay for you to do it?
last i heard you was some music/dancing super genius and not a theoretical physicist.

In regards to the collider...
As it was already said on the first page, and by a few others, it's not happening until next month.
Second, if black holes are created, which there is a possibility, in all likeliness they will collapse at the same speed they are created.
Third, this is the kind of shit that is going to give us space travel. I say smash those fuckers. Let's get off this fucking planet already.
( as you infer)
no i don't infer i imply it is you who infer from my implication
why is it a joke when you do it but a serious issue if i do it ?

it could also solve forever our energy problems
i for one think it is wonderful that so much $ and so many really really really smart people are involved in something constructive (even if only potentially) rather than war
it is like nasa
not political not national
it is humans at their best acting together for the benefit of all
i wish i were a theoretical physicist i would love to work on this kind of project

comhcinc - you can be a bit annoying to some based on some responses (http://revision3.com/forum/showpost.php?p=436047&postcount=15) and while you may not agree with it, you cannot control how people perceive you to be.
skyz, com, can we drop this and get back to the title, please?

i wish i were a theoretical physicist i would love to work on this kind of projectMe too. I love quantum physics, I wish I was smarter to understand it more. The "collapsible wavelength" fucking blows my mind every time I read it. And I doubt I understand 50% of it.
Also, one other thing I forgot to mention in my previous post about the black hole issue... I read an article that said Earth gets bombarded with particles traveling that fast from space every second and no black holes are showing up.

i've read a number of brian greene's (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_Greene) books
i know what you mean i kinda understand it but it is hard to keep your mind wrapped around these out there ideas
and there is another one brian cox on ted (http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/brian_cox_on_cern_s_supercollider.html)
i'm going to order more books today :)

I'll admit it. I fear what I don't understand for good or for bad. I hope nothing goes wrong but it's being worked on by some of the brightest people in the world. I trust they know what they're doing.

The world's largest particle collider malfunctioned within hours of its launch to great fanfare, but its operator didn't report the problem for a week.
In a statement Thursday, the European Organization for Nuclear Research reported for the first time that a 30-ton transformer that cools part of the collider broke, forcing physicists to stop using the atom smasher just a day after starting it up last week.Link (http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5jb-KYaSJaMqYK4MtY2C2FmcmOl2QD939CCSG0)
