Update: Our friends at IESB recently posted a response to this article (below) involving Marvel and 20th Century Fox, which you can read here. Our source at Marvel never stated that 20th Century Fox was loosing rights to the X-Men, but that Marvel wants to seek greater involvement. I personally wanted to add into this that 20th Century Fox does own the rights to the X-Men films, but those rights also have certain guidelines that must be followed.

In my opinion, while there may be some conflicting ideas, it can’t be forgotten that 20th Century Fox has made the X-franchise into a huge money-maker. X-Men and Fox go well together like chicken and mashed potatoes. To me, it sounds like Marvel wants to make sure that the future X-MEN team films (not include solo spin-off’s) are headed in the right direction.
Our source at Marvel Entertainment gave us the latest update on the ongoings of the X-MEN franchise, and what the future may hold for our favorite mutants:

Recently at the company’s web-site, we posted the latest on what was going on with all our movie projects during our last web-cast, which is available for downloading at Marvel.com. At one point during the conference, It was brought up that the future of both the X-Men and Spider-Man movie franchises will depend on how talks between Marvel, The Sony Company, and Fox will go next.

Since then some talks have taken place, and I must say that at the moment, It tends to favor Spider-Man more. Sony is so confident that Spider-Man 3 will be a hit that both the studio and Marvel are in active talks about doing more movies with the current cast and film crew. Talks between Marvel and Fox have not gone so smoothly.

I am not saying that it is hopeless, but there tends to be more disagreement on what to do next with The Children of the Atom. There is really no firm deal on the table as to what to do next. At the time of X3’s release, it was widely reported “well this is the last movie” despite the last scenes that were shown. Then the Box Office results kind of made Fox change their minds, at least all of a sudden they became more open to the idea of doing an X-Men 4.

But Marvel has an alternate plan for the future of these movies. One that Fox is reluctant to take seriously. However, they may have little choice in the matter because ultimately the X-Men are Marvel’s characters and with Marvel making even bigger steps to control and have more say in the production of their movies, the news on the future of the X-Men movies (which will be revealed in good time) I’m sure will come as a pleasent surprise to both the long time X-Men readers and those who have just recently got interested in them because of the movies.

I would LOVE to see another company and another crew do X-men. I like the first X-men, the second was kinda boring, the third was okay, but there's so much room for improvement.

And I don't really think Singer or the writers really GOT what x-men was all about.

Agreed. Writing was terrible and the direction was uninspired, but for a comic book movie that is generally still grade A.

I would definitely love to see a revamp on the X-men movies. They need to do something, that's for sure. There are cracks showing, and I don't want to see the franchise break.

All three films felt like origin stories to me. Granted it's in everybody's best interest to have an origin I would have preferred to see them just dive into an original story and give away pieces of the character's past throughout the franchise. Through good writing you don't need to know where a person has been to understand them.

I've never read Hellboy but I think it's the best Comic book movie to date just because of how it's presented. I think Del Toro could do an amazing X-Men film.

Marvel has no reason to complain about the Spidey movie franchise. including Sony and Spidey in the article makes me think of one of two possible conclusions:

1) Marvel just wants more money
2) Marvel wants to be their own studio and make their own movies.

I've heard more than once that they really want to make their own movies and I'm guessing they are just waiting for existing contracts to run out before they do so.

I think Iron Man, Namor, and Incredible Hulk, are Marvel Studio's first to be released titles.

Isn't there supposed to be a Wolverine movie? I hope so... and I hope they make it Rated R.
