I can visualize whirred peas. but only as soup. argh such a first world problem. haha.

tell ya what, birdseye, Michalena, etc. Take those peas/corn and ship them to Hurricane ravaged Haiti, and I swear, I'll buy TWICE, maybe more, of your product. Deal?

What blows my mind is how Australians eat prawns. Thats right, I stayed in Sydney for 3 days, and I saw the hotel infomercials (which of course are always 100% truth). In one of the commercials there was some lady grabbing steamed prawns from this icebox --- with a look of unnatural blissful glee in her eyes.

I can't even think of eating those things with their beedy little eyes looking back at me -- Its like eating a large insect or something.

All crustaceans are large insects. Think about it ... more than 4 legs, exoskeletons ... they're bugs and yet people eat them.

Exactly...delicious bugs. Lobster, crabs, shrimp, etc...

@Guytheninja...

Don't ever go to any creole restaurant. Cajun food also has whole prawns. One of the phrases widely used is "Suck the head and pinch the tail" in reference to eating them.

Never expect good things from Microwave dinners.

In fact, just avoid eating them all together. Blargh.

Background information: I once bought a "hardy" one pound microwavable lasagna. Of course they don't mention that it is 8/9 of a pound of noodles and a little packet of sauce. Never again!

some are better than others. just gotta experiment. but when i wanna nuke stuff for dinner, i just get frozen burritos, some chips, and salsa and cheese. No surprises. Ya get what ya get.

Yeah. I have learned that there are really simple and quick things to prepare that don't require a microwave. The only things that go in my microwave are popcorn and certain leftovers. And probably other things.

Its all about presentation man, presentation. I'll eat shrimp from a box, and lobster tails from somewhere like Red Lobster, but those beedy eyes and those insect-like legs -----> reminds me a little too much of Resident Evil 4.

Hhmmmphh. I pretty much alwways add peas to pasta dishes.

... and you've never eaten prawns until you have had them fresh steamed as they come of a trawler. Odd thing is though - as much as I like prawns (shrimp), I can't do the cajun crawdad.

I add peas to the compost bin. :DMy sister would agree with you ... which is why I never got peas as a kid (except at Nan's - she didn't car emy sister didn't like peas :) ). As an adult, I love peas.

Peas and a creamy pasta sauce with some ham/proscutto are awesome. Go well in a bolognese (meat) sauce too.

Odd thing is, I absolutely LOVE split pea soup. With ham. Homemade or out of the can. Weird, huh?

I think it's the texture, and the skins, same reason I don't care for the lima type of beans. I like the flavors of peas and beans, in a mushy state, just not when they are whole.

You know what...if you tell me that sometimes they make you think of what eating bugs must be like, then we're more alike than most people would guess.

All forms of those nasty beans have a hard shell with a mushy interior....blech!

I've always liked beans. Didn't like peas as a kid, but I've developed a taste for them as I've gotten older.

I just bought "ready bacon". I am nervous, but didn't feel like frying up bacon for a club sandwich. This is going to be terrible.

My mom used to call me "Sweet pea" when I was younger, and I got so mad. "Mooooommmm, I'm not peeeeeee!" Which only made her call me it more.

Badger -

Get two cups of rotini (or other "ridged" pasta) on the boil.
Meanwhile ...
Dice a large onion (I like vidalia)
Slice a punnet of mushrooms.
Chop 4 slices of bacon.
Mince garlic to (as much/little as you like to preference) I get mine chopped from a jar - about 2 cloves worth.
1/2C cream.
As much parmasen/asiago/romano cheese as you like

Pan fry bacon until fat starts coming out. Add in onions, start to cook them up. Add in garlic. Cook until the onion starts to color (goes beyond translucent).

Optional - deglaze pan with a little sherry.

Add in mushrooms. Saute until starting to cook. I add in some peas about now ( :) )

Pasta should be cooked by now. Drain (keep some of the pasta water). Add pasta to pan with the vegies. Add in cream. Stir. Add in cheese. Stir. If its too thick, add some of the reserved pasta water (its OK).

Done.

10-15 minutes inc chopping time.

OK. Its a little longer than waiting on the microwave to go ding, but its a helluva lot better.
