So I accidentally knocked my MyBook TB drive on its side and the OS, both osx and windows cannot recognize my drive. The drive still appears in the devices or disk util menus but does not show up as a readable drive. Do I need to run something like testdisk and restore the partition table? anyone else ever have this problem? i only ask because recovery sector searching on a TB drive takes days to finish and i wonder if there is a faster fix.

Not sure why you mentioned the partition table in the title since you didn't 'look' at the partition table to check for damage.
It is unlikely the partition table is damaged due to it been unlikely that the heads in the drive where at the partition table (it is usually read once then left alone).
You need to start by figuring out what is actually wrong with the drive (not guessing).
The controller for the drive shows up in device manager. So the drive caddie is working apparently.
Can you hear/feel the drive spin up?
Does it have any indicator lights? Are they been 'normal'?
Does the drive appear in disk management?

the drive makes the same noise, the lights are how they are supposed to be, and it does show up in disk management... the drive is just not showing up in my computer/finder

What does disk management show exactly (screen shot would be nice)?

the external drive does not show up in disk management, but it is showing up in devices.

Crack open the external drive case. I am betting the cables just need pushing in properly. The USB drive controller is being recognised, the power is getting to the drive, but no data is being read ... so check the cable (inside the device).

no cable in the drive... the drive just have a parallel port that a silver box (that has the usb and power connections) attaches to... i made sure it was secure and still the same problem...

Connect the drive to a motherboard and see if the BIOS picks it up.
