Has anyone played it? Any good? Pirates?

I thought it was great, and i only played it up to the beginning of the tribe stage (had to go to sleep).
Pirates? I didn't pirate it. Or I didn't see any pirates in-game, I don't know what you're asking.

The only reason why I said that was to discuss the issue that they are having. I read a digg artical that said it has already been pirated over 200,000 times.

Oh, well I think that's completely stupid, let me put it like this.
Gamer A: "Oh noes! Spore has DRM! I shall not buy it and pirate it! Just to show them that DRM doesn't work!"
Gamer B: "But, what about the game?"
Gamer A: "What game?!"
I think that yes, the DRM was an unfortunate (and unnecessary) move by EA's part, not because it's inconvenient, but because people are forgetting about the game itself. People shouldn't mix their opinion of DRM with their opinion of a game, in this case Spore.

I disagree. When DRM gets to the extreme level that it is at now, I find it very hard to just ignore it.

Some people say they are actually playing online with their pirated version of SPORE

I thought about pirating it, but I don't want to get in trouble for it.

I stopped pirating software a long time ago (too many trojans), but after hearing about all the DRM issues, I'm starting to wish that I had made an exception this time.

I started the game, but I had to uninstall the EA downloader, because it frogged my system.

Pirate yourself a version of NOD32 and you'll be good hahaha

What means are you using to not ignore it?

Oh well, maybe something good will come out of all this madness. Or maybe Spore will sell a shit ton of copies either way and EA will not even notice or maybe care about taking out DRM.

I may need to make a new thread for this, but anyone know games similar to the RTS in spore? Only at the tribal stage so far, but I really enjoy it even though I usually dislike RTS games.

I've only watched Spore being played, and so far it's cute!

Yes, it looks very cute.
It's hard to ignore the DRM when it costs you $2.48 per minute to call up EA and beg for the ability to install it.

I've only seen gameplay footage, but I'm so stoked to play it.

I'm playing it now but I was hoping space stage would be a bit more open. All you can really do is fly around, you can't get out of your ship or anything.

Took me about a few hours to beat the game. The creature stage was the best.

I've got friends downloading the PIRATED version of the game.
I've heard the EA Download Manager coupled with the DRM software has SCREWED over the people who bought it digitally online.
The only EA games I truly play regularly are FIFA and SIMS, beside those two and the occasional NFS, I really really dislike EA.
DRM FREE or I'll just pirate as usual.

Not that I'm defending the DRM, but I downloaded it through the EA Download Manager and didn't have any problems.

Ok I understand that, but you only have 3 installs with that thing. I'm a person who literally goes through a new computer like tissues. So 3 installs doesn't help me one bit.
If I have the disc, I'd get to install it without having to call EA and explain why my PC stopped working and why I need them to give me permission to use something I bought and seeing that I live in the Caribbean the chances of that happening are slim to none.
Many people share my view and it's not like we don't know about the Spore backlash on Amazon. EA screwed up big time. This game was supposed to be huge and because of EA, it just diminished the hype/ overall expectancy of quality from the game by overshadowing it with the DRM.

Ahh ok, I misunderstood. I thought you were saying that there was some kind of glitch that messed up initial installs. I agree that allowing only 3 installs is a problem.

lol, it's ok. But Spore's gameplay looks alright, when I get it tomorow (God Willing) from my friend who's downloading it, I'll let you all know what I think of it.

Either you have an obscene amount of computers that you get rid of with the slightest bit of use, you use tissues for a few months at a time or you literally used literally incorrectly.
I am done with Spore for now. Space is too much for me. I can go to all those stars, and the stars have planets too? Agh! Too much!

Hows this for a Techliveadmin fun fact : Average Number of Pc's Repaired/ Bought every year = 3 (actually i repair, repair and these damn machines still die, even though thousands of (TT currency) goes into them, mind recommending a good pc dealer down here?)

I would disagree. Not all people are like that.
I just replaced my computer in December (got a Mac mini) and my computer before that was from November 2004. I also just helped a friend purchase a new computer to replace theirs from 2001.

The best description I can think of is one that Jeff gave on TRS: "The game isn't deep, but it is wide." There is not that much depth to any one part of the game, however there is a fair amount to do. The same of it really is that your individual parts don't necessarily give you different abilities. There are specific parts you get depending on if you are an herbivore, omnivore, or carnivore. From there it is just a matter of finding a) what gives you the most of a specific trait, and b) what you think looks best. Granted, if you are bipedal, you can reach for higher fruit from trees and things like that. However, no parts necessarily give you special abilities. When it gets to the tribal stage, I just made friends with everyone and was done with it in about 30 minutes. Civilization phase I am still playing, but I could easily just bomb the other Civs like they were Nazi Germany and be done with it. I am TRYING to milk this game for all it can give me (setting up trade routes and purchasing other cities, coverting by religion, and military take-over) but it already seems like I have done everything. Now, I have heard that the Space stage is really a lot of fun. I haven't actually played it yet, so I can't tell you whether or not that assessment is accurate or not.
Now, all of this being said, the game CAN be a lot of fun. If you just blow through it by killing everything in sight, you could finish the game and still have time to put a fresh coat of paint on the house before the sun goes down. But, if you really try to explore all aspects of the game, you can take away something from it. Wandering around the world in the Creature phase and seeing all of the "Epics" and other things like flying and crashed UFOs was a lot of fun. You can develop a roveing band of minstruls to follow you around, and it can be comprised of different spieces which can make for quite the show when you are trying to show of your singing or dancing skills.
This will not be a game for everyone. If you are a hardcore RTS fan (Command and Conquer, Warcraft, etc.) you may not like this game is the RTS parts of it are more like "My First RTS". The people that were looking for a WoW like experience won't find that either. This game has famously been called an MSORPG or "Massively Single-player Online blah blah blah". My suggestion? Find a friend who was willing to either pirate it or shell out the cash for it, give it a shot, and then buy it if you like it.
