I only watched Hack College and the Drink one, honestly wasn't impressed with either even though Kelly (former intern and Hack College host) is awesome

The Minx Mandate:
While I liked the premise I found the host's character too awkward and annoying to even finish the episode. Also for some reason the whole interview felt staged.

That's Awesome. TV:
I really enjoyed That's Awesome. I went over to their site and the past episodes are really helpful/interesting. I liked the wide variety of topics covered. The host was a little boring and sounded more like he was teaching a class or lecturing but I think he can benefit quite a bit from a co-host with more experience speaking conversationally.

The Slice:
I got really excited at the idea of a show about the stock market on R3 because most young people know jack shit about it. Unfortunately when I watched this episode I found it kind of meandering, unfocused, and I really didn't get what the show was about until halfway through it. Perhaps something more along the lines of how to use the stock market or a stock review/news/hot stocks kind of thing might work better.

What Should You Know:
Energetic host (occasionally annoying but still quite good.), Epic FUish editing, Fantastic premise, I watched some back episodes and they are short but sweet jumping off points about important things in out society, mostly politics. This show is actually very good and I eagerly await additional episodes. The only negative thing I have to say is the production quality leaves something to be desired. Audio is too echoey (Just hang some blankets on the walls) and the video/greenscreen quality is meh. Feels like it was made in a basement but hey that's what were all about, right? DIY 4 life.

Your Weekly Music Lesson with Walt:
The best new host I've seen so far, energetic (almost suspiciously energetic), charismatic, a natural in front of the camera. This show is so DIY it hurts. Literally just a guy, a camera, and probably iMovie. What's great though is that you don't even notice. A prime example of the possibility of great content that comes with a passionate individual and some drive. Also the information presented was very helpful and applicable.

Good show Radzack!

It's amazing how many different kinds of drinks there are today compared to 15 years ago. I'm definitely on board. B3 and that music show with that Walt guy were my favs.

I liked BB&B... the sound level was a bit low for me... but I'm just using my MBP speakers...

I think they could work a bit more on the descriptive language... think vay-ner-chuk.. I didn't get a real good feel for the flavor... like the cane sugar dr pepper, I got that it is sweeter... but is that all? maybe one is more chocolaty... or rusty nails... or cat pee...

I'll check back in a couple weeks and try it again... I'd subscribe with rss but it doesn't appear to be an option for this show.

The variety is exciting! We have shot some really really fun episodes. Be sure to shoot us an email with ANY ideas you have, and you will be credited on the show. We'd love to expand this to be mostly user submitted drinks.

We are also super excited about the DIY segment really picking up. There are so many things you can do at home yourself with things that you have lying around.

Agreed. Our sound tech didn't catch the low volume on Dana's mic. Will not be a problem in the future, promise. (ep2 might be abit low still)

I watched them all and I can honestly say that I would not watch any of them. Nothing redeeming about them. Has nothing to do with technical production quality for me I just don't find the shows to be well produced (writing, editing, directing, ect.). Sorry.

Your Weekly Music Lesson with Walt
seriously the best show rev3 beta has. you can tell he has passion for music and it comes through so well. he seems to be a great talent. I have never seen someone so passionate about something since gary v. the show needs some money thrown at it and polished a bit to be a mainstream show but seriously good.

what should you know-
I've seen this podcast before once. there is a reason I only saw it once. i love the idea but it just doesnt' work with that guy

That's Awesome. TV
boring. very educational though, sweet set. kinda hard to watch the whole thing and not get distracted by anythign else.

The Slice:
i didn't believe these guys knew what they were talking about. I lost intrested quickly, where is the entertainment vaule?

bottle blends brews
I love the idea of this show. the audio sucked bad though. i couldn't make out most of what she said. the guy seemed to be a natural. I like this show. i would say a good second place behind YWMLWW. i would watch it on a regualar basis

The Minx Mandate:
it seemed very akward and odd. and not in a cute good way. i didn't finish it. i usually hang on every word when women talk about sex but not with this chick

As one of the show producers (That's Awesome.TV), I am really happy to see people actually discussing!

I love to get real feedback (good or bad) and what I have read so far is helpful.

I realize many think that none of the shows really hit a home run, but remember, this is a development league... and personally, I am really relying on feedback to make my show more watchable.

So keep the comments coming and help us make these shows better... I'm working on an episode today that should be more fun, check it out Sunday.

Later,

Hack College.

I didn't like the episode that the put up very much, but I dug around and found some much better episodes. I really look forward to new episodes.

Minx Mandate.

Really weird. I don't really get it yet. Its kinda like the Colbert report with her character. But I don't know I'll wait and see this one out.

Weekly Music Lesson w/ Walt

Best show of the bunch, Please please please give this guy some many because with some money this guy could be amazing. His energy is really inspiring and thats what you need for a music show.

Yup... I record in my basement against a greenscreen.

If you check out an old episode, specifically the one on the Apple TV (http://thatsawesome.tv), I do a tour of my studio (if you want to even call it that) at the end of the episode. You will be able to see my setup.

What the **** is wrong with you people?
Stop bashing on the shows!!!
If you dont like it, give your reasons
The Point of Revision3Beta is to get Shows shown and to help their producers improve and saying that the show is terrible or saying it sucks does not help at all.
Only a few people (durham4556, spinney and toomin232) are giving there reasons (Im not including TATV and RadZak because it is there shows)

Your Weekly Music Lesson
Off the bat, opening music is far too loud. Edit out what you say or turn down the music. They don't meld well. Almost made me want to shut it off.

Content wise, its okay. I don't really have any interest in learning how to play, so I wouldn't watch, but the host is charismatic, which makes it alright.

What Should You Know
I get the feeling it could be good, but the host is just too loud and excited. No go for me. Like the content and concept, though.

Thats Awesome
I think a cohost might be good, just to add a bit. But I loved it. Provided the episode was about something I was interested in (which a lot of them seem to be) I'd watch.

The Slice
While I'm no stock market buff, the hosts had me enjoying myself enough to watch it. Pretty good.

Minx Mandate
My instinct was almost to shut it off at 3 seconds. The hosts voice is a bit annoying. I stuck it out for fairness' sake, but I just don't see it. Bad content, bad host. Really didn't like this one.

Hack College
Perhaps I just fit the demographic, but I really liked this one. I'd definitely subscribe.

Bottles Blends and Brews
As has been pointed out, the audio was a bit low, but I know that was unintentional and will be fixed. Loved the content, and think this one could go far.

Sum up:
1. BBB / Hack College (I really liked both)
3. Slice
4. Thats Awesome
5. What Should You Know
6. Your Weekly Music Lesson
7. Minx Mandate

For me:
1. BBB - they fix the audio and do some semi-decent lighting, this is a knock out hit of a show. I'll look forward to it each week. I bet advertisers would love it too.
2. Your Weekly Music Lesson - Love love the host, show, passion, just not sure if I'd watch it since no interest in being in music?
3. Slice - Entertaining, informative, advice I haven't heard before, quirky in a good way. Work on that lighting with that window behind them.
4. What Should You Know - Seems fun, pace and host is good, could be good info in it, just this episode seemed weak due to it being a mostly marketing piece. I want to see some real episodes.
5. Hack College - Fun and useful, but wouldn't watch it cause I'm a bit beyond that stage in my life. However if I was in college....
4. That's Awesome - I agree with previous comments, a bit slow and boring. However looks nice. Potential here.
6. Minx Mandate - weird, and not in a good way. This is the only show I would never watch.

BBB : good idea, but the show is a little slow
Hack College : Diggnation-esque but not in a bad way, entertaining and interesting. I'll definitely keep an eye on it
Minx Mandate : Seriously ? The host is awful, the interviews are horribly slow, and I just don't get it
The Slice : slow (again) and quite boring actually
That's Awasome TV : I didn't watch it yet :o . But does Rev3 really need another tech related show ?
What Should You Know : pretty good show. Two things though : the sound quality is not the greatest, and the in/out-tro drives me crazy
Your Weekly Music Lesson with Walt : So far, the best show of all. Very passionate and interesting.

After reading some of the Minx comments on here I finally decided to watch it hoping to see a train wreck... I didn't... I kinda liked it.. I laughed out loud when she started actually slapping that dude... I think it was well put together and entertaining and I'm interested in where the show goes.

I also watched Your Weekly Music Lesson and while I'm not particularly interested in learning to play music, I think I'll follow this guy for a while... his passion is evident and knowing at least the fundamentals of any craft or art form is interesting and valuable to me.

there was nothing interesting and the ones that looked interesting suffered from the diggnation effect (two guys sitting side by side)

Toomin232 - Your Weekly Music Lesson with Walt:
The best new host I've seen so far, energetic (almost suspiciously energetic)

Though I like the weekly music lesson I don't have any instruments. The sode library wannabe show is a vayner rip off.

The others I couldn't really bare to sit through. The one on the stock market is a neat idea since I would like to know what to do with my money but I just couldn't watch it all the way through.

EXCEPT! HACK-COLLEGE - Throw away the digg format and come up with your own. Something unique but I think Hack College has the most potential to be something I would like. It's kind of like CollegeHumor.com meets Rev3. I think that idea of taking things from DIY sites like LifeHacker and putting them into a college setting (where you need them most) is a recipe for success. I always thought Kelly was gay (literally) but I think him and Captain Douche make a great couple (literally).

Cut the 90 second thumbs up/down section in half and have your real dad do the Dad segments and your good.

Ideas for a setup other than the Diggnation format. Film it in different locations of your school that reflect college or what your hacking (easier said than done I know). It would be cool if each week your set reflected a different major or a different facet of college life that your hacking. Run with that!

We get the "Diggnation-esque" feedback a lot, but I'd like to hear some more elaboration about why it seems so similar to Diggnation and how we could correct it.

Its a very good thing but since Rev3's staple show also involves that there are bound to be people who don't see it that way.

I am not one of those people.

Correct what ? It's not like you stole some unique concept. I mean, two guys sitting in front of a camera and talking about this and that is a pretty basic and common thing. The chemistry is the key of this setup : if the conversation seems natural, the show's gonna work; if it seems forced, you're screwed. So, why would you change something that is actually working :) ?

The only show that I saw so far that I would be willing to watch on a regular basis is "What you should know" However this could change in the future. But As of now. I found the "What you should know" video the most entertaining.

Though I did like learning how to make an air conditioner out of a fan. If only it could have been more intertaining while teaching me... Like the way shows like Beakmans World or Bill Nye did.

They aren't really tests. They are REAL rev3 shows, with schedules, budgets, ad revenue, so you think they would jump on the RSS feeds as a revenue generating thing. As it is now, I only know a new show is on if a host twitters it, and I only follow one of the hosts on twitter...sooo....

I would prefer to see none of these become Rev3 shows, given the choice that is, however going from what I've seen:

WSYK- it's not as good as What You Ought to know (http://www.whatyououghttoknow.com/show), I looked at some of the other episodes (e.g. net nutrality, cosmetic surgery) and they weren't promising- glossing over information is not something an "informative" show does!

Minx Mandate- I agree with a lot of the posters that the Ms Minx needs work but I could see potential for the show assuming tight quality controls were put to use. Not a huge fan of what I have seen but it is nice to see something like this as a podcast rather than a Colbert clip.

Hack College- seems to me that this should be a segment of another show rather than it's own standalone podcast. The presenters have charisma but the show format doesn't work.

That's Awesome TV- very similar to what is already out there but otherwise good.

BBB- nicely edited but I wouldn't watch.

Not that my opinion matters tbh, however it is very encouraging to see that people are trying such things for themselves, it's great.

Thanks for the kind words. As for the feedback on the music being too loud - I agree with that. This was my first week ever doing a show like this. I write music, play music, and teach music. I never expected to be a videographer, editor, etc.

So as the weeks go on the show is going to get alot better.

Keep the constructive criticism going, I look forward to learning more of what everybody thinks, and how to improve upon it!

Walt, your show is getting crazy good feedback... rightfully so, you bring some good energy to the table - as well as an interesting subject. I just wish I had one quarter of your energy!

I have loved to see the feedback and hopefully all the shows can grow and become better... I know for me, it has consumed all my spare time just thinking how I can get better.

Trust me, it's harder than it looks :)

Keep the discussion going!

FYI for anyone that has been following my show, I won't have one this week - had my tonsils out - OUCH!

But upcoming shows will cover:

Virtualization, the best of both worlds
Becoming a pilot and the Tech of general aviation (will be AWESOME)

I already gave my opinions two weeks ago (post #24 I think), but they are a little clearer now :)

BBB : not really the type of show I'm interested in, but I don't see any problem about it (maybe turn Dana's mic on and wake her up a little ;) )

Hack College : the show is fine and again, I don't see anything wrong

Minx Mandate : is this show a joke or something ? The only three episodes are 4, 5 and 8 months old and nothing new seems to come out

The Slice : not so boring after all, but I don't find it very entertaining (ok, it's a stock market show, not comedy) or even informative

TATV : this show is also fine. The only "problem" : it looks a lot like Systm

WSYK : I still feel the same about this one : pretty good, except the sound quality and the lame intro/outro

YWMLwW : I'm really looking forward to watch the show with a better video quality :)

Doesn't work. My podcast player, Ziepod+, just basically tells me that something new is available but doesn't download it like if it was a new Diggnation episode. I have been watching only 3 of the shows as the others just aren't that interesting.

BBB - Good concept here but there has been like no descriptive text used for the drinks. It tastes like pepsi or reminds me of pepsi is not descriptive enough, what else does it taste like (like someone else stated think vaynerchuk), but good production and this could be a great idea.

Your Weekly Music Lesson - Simply awesome, nothing more I can say.

That's Awesome: Great educational show, I think it could use a lively co-host as well and then it could be a pretty top notch show.

First up, I want to see some poll data. I clicked on a few shows that kinda suck and would hate for my click to be the one that puts a show like Minx on Revision3 (the big leagues). Please Post a poll some where so that our votes can count. Or maybe just let us digg the vids that we like and go from there.

Now to the best shows IMHO:
1. What should you know: This kid has a great concept that is bite sized and informational. It would be a great daily tidbit show that would fit into a word of the day type of category. I learned a lot about the bail out from this and verified that the info provided was accurate.

2. Bottles, Blends and Brews: I actually clicked on this because I thought it said Battles, Blends and Brews. I was kinda expecting battle robots or something. I was pleasantly surprised at the show. The show is pretty good as far as a drinking show for non-drinkers (non-alcoholic drinkers). I really like the soda review since I am addicted to soda but I wish they would actually blend some more. Also that last episode with Dana on the web cam saying that she could not go to New York could have been a show all by itself (lonely girl style). This seems like a good once a week affair but it does not fit the tech centric style of revision 3. Maybe this could be a good anchor show for a more of a lifestyle deal. Couple this with Pop Siren, internet star and that show that Veronica left BOL to do and you have a whole new network that is a little lighter on tech but heavy on culture.

3. Hackcollege: This has been my greatest disappointment of the shows that should go to the big league. I mean this is like a last round pick that you may be able to develop into a Tom Brady after a year or so. The premise is good but the execution if poor. I expected more of the life hacking and less of the boring. They are on a college campus somewhere yet they seem stuck in their room. Get out of the dorm room and start hacking some stuff. For example, show me how to score some free phone time on the college phones or how to get into that class that is "full". This should have a bit more tech also. Show me some ways of protecting my system from others while I am on the school wifi. But for what it is worth, the show is good in some ways and should be promoted to the next level.

Now the two shows that can go are Minx and the Slice. Minx is just awkward. The slice is just boring.
Gotta go now but please consider it.

One of my faves is bottle, blends and brews. I have been waiting soooo long for a show like this....finally...

I wish they were a tad bit more descriptive when they taste something instead of just stating their opinion and moving on. But, the show is still great and I will watch every episode regardless.

My other favorite is WSYK. The host is very entertaining to watch and the topics are always things I wanna watch. I liked the bees one.

I have also watched some of the slice and the hosts are fun-ny. I would probably watch this show.

Minx mandate? Meh, I find it funny but I won't watch it.

I may have just smiled wider than the jokerrrr :)

We're only a handful of weeks in, promise things are ramping up :)

Thanks much!

Are you really a jedi?

Too bad that four shows seem already dead :(

The Slice isn't even on the CakeFinancial website anymore (cancelled I guess) and the three others (Minx, TATV & WSYK) haven't been updated for a while.

Sorry everyone who's interested... It has been about 6 weeks since the last show, but I just dropped Episode 14. Work has been keeping me very busy...

I'm doing a 3 part series about the tools and process of publishing TATV.

Check it out!

Later,

Scott

Hi Scott, your show has promise but I think you need to work on contingency if you want it to be picked up on the main Revision3 site. I mean as in record a couple of episodes in a day Diggnation style.

Dude, totally agree with you on that one. I have to find a schedule that works with my real life.

I probably lost a fair amount of viewers during the lull... at least the stats reflect that.

Thanks for the input!

I really enjoy Hack College because it is the most relevant show to me but sometimes I get an awkward vibe from the hosts. Perhaps a few drinks before the show would help. In the latest episode one of them mentioned being gay together as a joke and I actually thought they may have been so I lold. I think their may be some sexual tension between the two hosts (and roommates, right? ;) ) What Hack College needs to work on are their reviews. The mom and dad tips segments are a good idea too but maybe you should just use a real mom and dad or just that same person without the cheesy acting and costume :P

BBB is not really my type of show (I'm not into different beverages) but I still watch it! I think you guys just need to be a little more detailed with the drinks.

The Minx Mandate I actually like and think is funny but there are hardly any updates. I wasn't sure if the interviews were staged or not either so the show is confusing to me as well.

What happened to WSYK ? I liked this show a lot. The guy is a obviously pretty obnoxious but I like the in your face style he's got going on and the episodes were nice and short.

I have no interest in music lessons but I watched one episode and the host has great charisma so that's a good show.

I would watch more of the That's Awesome.tv show but I haven't found any of the subjects particularly interesting so I don't watch them. I watched the WiiDVD episode. Very thorough.

The Slice I have no input for as I have absolutely no interest in the stock market and financial business stuff.
