Uhhhhh... It is just me, or does the XViD download lag a lot? Almost seems like the audio lags couple seconds

I have one gripe: When Kevin said that the Zune's bootload sequence wasn't stylish enough to be apple. Surely the purpose of a boot sequence is to load the OS. If you make a boot sequence pretty, you're wasting time loading that prettiness, therefore going against the rationale of a boot sequence?

I guess I'd be happy with DOS though.

I realise I've just alienated half of the forums, I apologise!

Why is this topic so dead with only two replies? Did people not enjoy this week's episode? I thought it was a pretty good one, with interesting stories.

I find it disturbing to say the least that Alex thinks all apps should be free. Has he no respect for developers and all their hard work. Kevin seems to get this a bit better. Maybe it is just me, but Alex seems to be getting more annoying by the episode.

Did you even finish the episode? He said that he now realizes that they don't have to be free. If you go from everything being free to having to buy some stuff it is a little 'disturbing'.

Awesome episode, and that plane looks freaking COOL. If I can just sort out the whole 'paying for it' thing...

That book Kevin was mentioning "Predictable Irrational" seemed pretty interesting. I am a psych major so that might be it.

Hey Kevin I will look forward to you getting your digg ui guys to transform android! I can confirm that every single aspect a transformable... I totally caught what you meant by replacing explorer.exe from the old days! Replacing explorer.exe was essentially replacing the shell for windows and thus the entire look and feel of windows. In Android platform it would basically give you the ability to replace the home screen. If you do replace the home screen and the ui at digg and what not you must admit, the status bar at the top that sends you notifications that you can drag down is kick ass! That must stay. Anyway, I am looking forward to android phones, I will have to pass on t-mobile even though they are being awesome and not making up special android pricing plans or special rules for it. Which means they will unlock the phone FOR YOU after 90 days of it being activated so eBay will have many of them by years end.

Funny show! I liked how they got excited about the plane.

<wise guy>Kevin's Stein from Germany was probably not from "Zinn" but made of (=tin). :p</wise guy>

Another person I trust talked about this book on his blog, so I guess it must be interesting:

Dan Ariely created a computer task where volunteers had to drag circles into boxes. He then divided his volunteers into 3 groups.

* Group 1 got $5.00.
* Group 2 got either 50 cents or 10 cents.
* Group 3 was asked to do him a favor.

Not surprisingly, group 1 - the highest paid group - outperformed group 2, but group 3 - the volunteer group - outperformed them all.

Kevin, first time I watched the show and I love it. But one question?

How do you deal with your other guy interrupting you all the damn time?!!

I couldn't stop laughing when they thought Glenn was peeing in the corner of Kevin's house!

WHY would you delimit your scope of travel only to the United States!

Us Canadians have couches too! I have a pretty nice couch, plus we have some wicked local microbrew. Anyway, great show and come visit soon.

After the discussion in Ep. 168 about the new Microsoft ad campaign featuring Seinfeld I was hoping to see what Alex thought of Microsoft dumping Seinfeld and going with the 'I'm a PC ad'.
What do you think Alex? John Gruber got the first ads spot on http://daringfireball.net/2008/09/theres_nothing_there

actually you have a very valid point. I agree that apple hires or contracts some very talented people however; to increase the GUI of a boot sequence would inevitably increase the resource usage thereby slowing down the bootsequence. Funtional first and foremost and pretty next. Who cares what a bootsequence looks like as long as the app guis look good. Besides the macbooks boot sequence is fairly plane and simple.

He knows. They all know there are forums because they always mention them on TRS. Jeff Canata is the only one that consistently makes an effort to read them from time to time.

I understand they are busy but Alex doesn’t' even try. Too busy playing WOW or twittering to be bothered with the forums.

I happy that Alex and Kevin are discovering new beers. However, Alex's insistence on judging beer by the color will hopefully be shatters. Last week they tried Bock and this week Marzen. Both of these are Amber Malty German lagers. The color of beer and the taste of the beer have no correlation. And, darker German lagers can be quite subtle.

However, I cringe every time they mispronounce Marzen.

http://www.germanbeerinstitute.com/M%E4rzen.html

It the German word for the month "March." Get it, Oktoberfest is a German festival traditionally celebrated during the last half of September were they enjoy a beer named for the month of March.
