From Dan Trachtenberg:

So, I regret to inform everyone that Geekdrome is no longer. Episode
53 was Geekdrome's last episode. The past year of hosting this show
has been one of the most incredible experiences of my life.
Unfortunately, personal issues surrounding the show have made it
impossible to continue.

I've always felt Geekdrome was special because it never felt like just
a conversation between Jon and I, but one we were having with all of
YOU. And I really have YOU all to thank for that. To everyone who
listened to us during the blogspot days...the kubrick v. spielberg
argument...jon's mom...remember our logo with the cartoon guys that jon
drew?...teen geek...the invention of robotittes...our female co-host
(unfortunately only in audio)...becoming a vidcast...moving to
rev3...kevin smith...bonerstabone, freecajunlove, satansmagic, diva,
slomo, gmwil, abacus all those forum names that will forever be
embedded in my brain...the jihads...the youtube videos...the
conventions...the guests...the bbq. These are just SOME of the things
my brain cycles through when thinking about the show. Thank you all
for the emails you have sent, the myspace messages wether to Geekdrome
our our personal pages, the packages we've received, the chats we've
had, the friends we've made and the support you've given.

Thank you Vijay. You never complained and you were with us the whole
way. The time and energy you gave without expecting anything in return
is, frankly, incredible. You rock you cake eating shaky camera count
to 10 already sonofa*****.

Thank you friends (Graham, Marc, Laura, George, my bro). For hanging
out and helping out, without having to be asked, whenever you could.

Thank you Guests. You made our show better even if we made your lives
worse.

Thank you Revision3. You took a chance and supported us when you
didn't have to. I hope our time with you has made you glad you took
that chance and I'm sure you will continue to provide content to our
fans.

Thank you to everyone who helped Tyson, the best thing to happen to
Geekdrome. I'm not sure if you guys follow his blog, but he's gettin'
better.

Thank you Jon London. From 2 listeners (thats a fact, ask feedburner,
and Saffy) to thousands we made it work. Thank you for feeding your
crabs, for misquoting kevin smith, for laughing at a sick video i heard
about on the internet, for being funny while interviewing people at
conventions, for watching things and thinking about how they are made
and for being as passionate about all that is geek. It has been a good
journey.

Thanks to all who came to comic con, the SF party and the BBQ. Thanks
to all who came to our website. The forums WILL remain so this
community can continue our big geek conversation. I encourage everyone
to become Geekdrome and Jon and I's personal friends on myspace so that
we can all keep in touch. Hopefully you will follow Jon and I in
whatever we do next.

Thank you.

Love,
Danny T.

I can't believe this. I just read on Digg that the Broken is gone now too. I think I'm getting sick, and finals are about to start. This week is off to a shitty start.

Whoa, wait. You can't just do this all of a sudden! Can't just abandon the Dromers and Dromettes to...nothing!

Is it possible to do it less frequently, but still keep going?

It really, really sucks that you feel you're not able to continue doing geekdrome, but I could kind of see this coming (in a way). Danny, you just haven't seemed "in it" for the last few month's episodes and it was kind of obvious that the banter between you and Jon just wasn't the same as the early days. I'm eagerly looking forward to what you and Jon will be doing next, be it new shorts or a new podcast (although I can tell that's doubtful). Good luck on whatever you have up your sleeve.

Well this is really, really sad. Will there be any place for us fans to get updated on what you are doing next? Will there at least be a best of/farwell show?

And also, thank you for letting me, a 25 year old from Sweden, feel more comfortable with my geekiness.

Is there anything we can do to make you not call it quits?

Yes. Here. Stay here and you'll be updated on everything. The forums aren't going away for a while. We've all still got each other here. Jon is around. You'll always have my ass if that means anything. It's going to take more than just switching shows around to disband this enormous community of loving geeks. I've been here for months and have made friends that I've met in person or on the phone or in supermarkets or in barbeques and I've loved each and every single person I've met. Everyone here is my escape from how un-knowledgeable and un-geeky the rest of the world is and I'm sure we all serve that purpose for each other. There are going to be more shows and there are going to be better shows and a place for us to talk. Here. The irc. AIM. You guys will not be dropped in the woods and nobody is really going anywhere (cept for Dan). You're not losing everyone. Just one person. We are a strong community that's going to prosper from here on out, so be sad, but more so be excited, cause more things are coming, more movies, shows, comics and games to talk about are coming out and we'll have a place to talk. Everything's gonna be alright. Promise. Love, Brian.

Oh I will continue to read these forums throughout the day, every single day, just like I have for the past year. I will spend plenty of time in the IRC as well. I'm sure I will be posting much more often now that I don't have the show as an outlet for all my thoughts on everything. The forums are not going anywhere. And also remember to become friends with www.myspace.com/geekdrome to be updated as well.

thanks,

I think that I am going to CRY!!!!!!!! You two were some of my heroes!! Dan, I kind of wish that you could tell what is going on... was it being tackled so many times? Even though I have never talked to him, I could somehow get ahold of Jon, and ask him to stop... you win Dan, they won't tackel you any more, please stay.

wow, I really don't know what to say.

Now all I have to look forward to watching is diggnation. That is only one show a week, I don't know what I am going to do with myself.

I am really wishing that I was a bigger part of the community, I was kind of a drifter, who every sunday/monday refreshed the geekdrome page till the new one came up. I was never really able to get into the forums due to my school schedule and homework and stuff.

Well I just want both of you to know how much I am going to miss you, and I would do almost anthing to bring it back. :(

It seems the thebroken has been discontinued as well, not entirely surprising. In fact, I was looking through the comments on the post on digg, my thought on it was basically just, "Well that kinda sucks", until I hit Aria's comment about Geekdrome being dead too, hence the "OMFG!".

But at the very least, thebroken has been continued by some fans, in the form of 'thefixed'. Does this mean there will be a continuation by you guys in the form of Nerd Drome?... Oh god... the 'ring' of "Geek Drome" will never be matched...

12-04-2006, 08:18 AM
one question, WHY??

jonathanlondon
12-04-2006, 08:29 AM
Hey! Did anyone catch Stone Cold on TNT tonight? That is TOTALLY a gauntlet movie! It's got Brian "The Boz" Bosworth and Lance Henricksen in it and is amazing! There's one scene were Lance cuts a dude's fingers off by sticking them in the spokes of a motorcycle!

Hey! What are all you guys looking so sad for? Turn that frown upside down. You guys are all acting like someone died or something!

After the year we just had!?! Are you crazy!?! We were just getting started! Didn't you feel it? You know: The Momentum!?!

I know we got frustrated sometimes at Rev3 because the show was late or the site crashed and no one would tell us what was going on. I know I was frustrated too. But you have to have faith in Rev3 and what they are trying to accomplish. It's not easy starting this company up and building a new infrastructure with no pre-existing model. And I am being totally serious here. This stuff takes time. I've come to understand that more than anyone. Have faith in them and they will return the favor. Trust me.

But really. Let's remember some good Geekdrome forum times:

Remember the time that Seumas came and hung out and got all mad at everyone? That was AWESOME!

And remember when SandStone/Zim thought that he'd gotten banned when really he was just crazy? AMAZING!

And remember when Brian Gilmore WASN'T creepy!?! Yeah! Neither do I!

So I think you guys should take this time and reflect on the past year. Download some past episodes and relive some of your favorite moments. Hang out in the IRC and talk to each other. Keep the forums rocking.

And if you really get bored and are all tired and stuff, you guys can always just contact me.

I'd be happy to talk to any of you guys about all sorts of stuff, ESPECIALLY any movie with Lance Henriksen in it.

I do appreciate all the dedication and support you've shown over the past year (and one episode!). I know that you guys invested a lot of time and love into Geekdrome and I can't easily say goodbye to that.

So I won't.

Dromies never say die. Or goodbye.

I'm truly sad to see you guys go, but personal things have a tendency to get in the way of everything else in life.....
I just wanted to thank you all for all the hard work you obviously put into each week's episodes. It's been amazing; you've kept me from going crazy at my job many times.... And that is a chore some days.
As far as the personal problems go, your business is your business, but I think you can see by the response of this announcement that if there is anything that the Dromies and Dromettes could possibly do to help, don't hesitate to ask.

12-04-2006, 09:19 AM
What... the ****? This is not cool.

Personal issues surrounding the show? That doesn't tell us anything. With all due respect, either host could be replaced by one of their other friends, if there is a personal issue.

If its a rev3 issue such as sponsors or something, its a very bad move to build something up like this and then **** it up. I'm pretty sure the best thing to do is not cancel the show. Well i'm done with Rev3 if they are purposely booting off Geekdrome.

I'll be waiting for a Geekdrome spinoff "the jeff show"

This thread almost has me in tears.

I've been out of high school for two years. Literally all of my pals went away to college and I seldom see them (For some it's a year before i can hang out with them again and for some it's only a few months between visits). My parents have been divorced for years and my younger brother, who i love to death, lives with my father so I only see him every two months or so. I go to the community college down in Pasadena and as sad as this may be (Although I guess not so sad around these parts :P ) almost any interaction with people I care about is through the innernets, whether IMing my high school pals or various message board/irc servers. I dont know how lame things really are with me but in my head my situation is pretty grim, especially since my mother is moving in a few months (To alaska of allllll places) essentially leaving me very homeless.

I luckily dont dwell on the loneliness or the fact that my mother would rather go and live with penguins than here with her family because I have a plethora of great shows to watch. Nip/Tuck, Dexter, The Office....

But most of all the Drome. You see, watching Geekdrome was easily the highlight of my weeks for reasons I feel are probably unique to only me. As I mentioned earlier, all of my pals are in other states at college but a few of them love Geekdrome as well. The night of whenever it happened to be released, me and four of my friends would get in an AIM chat by ourselves.

1
2
3
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOoo

and everyone would click play and we would watch Geekdrome together, as best we could. If we had seen or read something you were talking about we would discuss what we thought right along with you. Or laugh along with you guys. I really dont think i could ever articulate how much enjoyment Geekdrome has given me and my friends, who drop everything to watch it together even while across the country. I just really can't.

It's sad. It's very sad but you are right, it has been a great year of shows. I just hope you two don't disappear. I dont mean from the forums or irc (Though DON'T disappear from those :P ), I just mean I would really hope you guys separately or together did something else. Though I guess if this was too much then there aren't much options.

So goodbye Geekdrome. You gave me a weekly bonding session with my friends that i couldnt have otherwise, provided me with many great films to watch (I watched BRICK because of you... and even if i had hated every other movie you guys ever talked about that alone would make it worth it), and made me and many others laugh.

Anyway, I love writing stories and if geekdrome is over I wonder if the Dinosaurico copyright has been removed.... I smell a best seller...

Ive decided to distance myself as far from geekdrome as possible now. This shit sucks so bad. I always liked to be a smartass and say crazy shit but im typing with a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes. I wont be on here anymore (at least as far as i can tell) I need some time to forget how much i enjoyed my day because i had something very unique and special to listen to everyday. I just cant believe this, i suppose i understand. Nothings forever but your just really never prepared to see it go. This is far worse than any "show" being cancelled, i looked at You Dan and John as friends. Its as simple as that and all The Drommies and Dromettes as an extended family. Im outta here cuz i really cant handle it right now.

Later all, ill be back again. Im sure

Bye Dan, c-ya john.

You know what?

This is just lame. Better yet, its beyond lame. Its dang well childish. Thanks for the warning. Thanks for caring...

You're telling me that DannyT and J. Lo can't set aside personal differences to talk about movies for a freakin' hour a week? That your willing to just pretty much flip the bird to everyone of your fans? That your friendship isn't' strong enough to withstand a slap? That neither of you have the guts to tell us the REAL reason behind the canceling of the show?

Uggh...The whole thing makes me sick to my stomach. Send the microphones to me. Hell, I'll do the show if neither of you can.

Thanks for the morning wake-up call....:(

This blows like a Bangkok hooker in a hotdog mobile. I mean you got a good thing going on here, and you two can't reconcile for your fans, you'd rather break up over some personal issues... (whatever the hell that means)

Hell Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert hated each other's ****ing guts, I mean they literally wanted to choke each other's chicken till the damn thing fell off... and you'd see them show up every week on their show... @the movies... so you two should settle this wing wang, work it out, and get back to droming...

If not for the show, do it for the fans. Nothing kills a thing worse than letting down those who support you.

Just in case you two fartsmackers need a lesson in how to maintain professionalism despite personal differences:

This is really lame. I wasn't expecting to ever get this bothered by something like a podcast, but over the past year Geekdrome and these forums have become part of my life.

Through watching and talking here I've been able to really get into being a geek, whereas before that was always something I felt uncomfortable with, like I had to defend myself for liking comics and SF and for caring too much about movies and TV shows. You guys have given me so many cool movies and comics to check out, and watching the show has been an important part of my week.

So if this is really the end, then I'm disappointed. But thank you anyway, for making Geekdrome. Because now I know I'm not going back to wishing I was cooler, or hiding my comic collection in my closet when people come over. That was just lame. So thanks.

And you say these forums will continue? I hope that's true, because I really like talking to some of you guys and being geeky together. I'm sure the forums won't be the same without the show as well, but I'll stick around for the present time.

I'm not going to compare this to my girfriend breaking up with me. (Though it happened just as fast and without warning as this)

I'm not going to compare this to my parent's getting divorced. (Though the down fall of that started with a slap too)

I'm not going to dwell on the suck-itude factor this brings.

I will say thank you.

Thank you to DannyT and JLo for making a closeted geek realize that he can fly his colors with pride and damn the people who naysay. I think you might have noticed by now, but this show means alot to alot of people. And I truly believe JLo. I don't think that we have seen the last of the Drome. I mean, did Spidey die when he was "killed"? No. He came back even more powerful then ever! (Maybe... I'm still lost on the whole Iron Spider story line... whatever) You strike the Drome down and it will become more powerful than you could ever imagine!

Thank you to the Dromers and Dromettes for giving me a place to come and say what's on my demented mind. I have never really posted on a board before, at least not this frequently. I always thought that people couldn't develop friendships online, and that those that thought they could were just fooling themselves. I was wrong. You all have become my family. And if I could I would virtu-marry every single last one of you!

I know that I will still be around. So if anyone needs a shoulder to cry on. I'm here with my jar of vaseline!

Up there it's their time. It's their time up there. Down here it's our time. It's our time down here! Dromies never say die!

Wow, I'm speechless..and for some strange reason dizzy. This is not how I wanted to start my week off, on a Monday no less.

This feels like the cancellation of some of my favorite shows with no series finale...and it also feels like my mere presence jinxed the show...and it also feels like I don't want to invest my time in any more podcasts...:(

It was a great year, but it would be nice to have a more clear explanation as to why, one week we were being told to look out of new episodes on Tuesday and the next, new episodes....never. Am I the only one missing something?

Oh well, thanks for the wonderful podcast. It was great while it lasted.

NO NO NO NO NOOOOOOOOO!! You guys can't do this to us!!!!!!

You guys have reached so many people in th last year. JLo and Dan, you guys have even reached us aussies who are at the arse end of the world.

I wanna cry!!!!!!!! I've trying to deny my geek side and be mature. But you guys have shown me to love what I love and not ignore it and go into it full force.

Well, you guys have your personal reasons. Thanx for all the fun and laughter. Would love to meet you dudes one day. And at least you still have myspace and this forum for a whil so us dromies can keep in contact.

But I'm stil shocked!!! Nooooooooo....

Speaking of coming from the leftfield, but anyway...

Congratulations guys, on a great show! I pretty much loved every episode I saw!

It kinda sucks that I can't watch geekdrome anymore, but you guys were both from the outset saying you guys are aspiring film makers, with smaller projects allready beneath yourbelt. So I'm pretty sure I'll be one of many geeks saying something along the lines 'I liked him better, when he was on this podcast. He's all sold out now'.

A year is a long time.

BTW I just got off the phone from Moshi_what and unless she beat me to this post. I can assure you judging by her screeching on the phone she's real upset!

I know it's not any of my business to pry, so don't tell us what the personal issues our. I don't even care, but do you guys run other podcasts? Judging by the last show I could seriously imagine JLo running the show with rotating co-hosts. Hmmm? Or Danny T could do that, as he did with that Diggnation guy (Sorry I only watch geekdrome).

PS. Don't feel like you guys owe us anything, it was free entertainment for us, and it was great watching you guys while my after effects files were rendering :)

holy crap!!!

this is not cool at all. i loved geekdrome. loved it so much it scared me a little bit. so many of us became so invested in this thing. yes we were given a great f*cking year of content...but what about the stuff we gave back?

we spent hours debating issues brought up on the show, creating sexy man nips, 2 intros were created because the guys simply asked for them, so much time spent downloading the show, creating a fan based search engine for the old forums, creating a kick ass logo, bought t-shirts, waited and protested when the show was late, protested when we were not given mods of our own, ppl spent money and time going to the drommies picnic, we all banded together when ppl dissed the show, and most importantly we became a group of family and friends.

i grew to love so many of you guys and this is how it ends? our last show was with jon and his mom? as cool as she was...that is no way to f*cking end a show. i thought i was mad at how fox ended firfly!?!?! that was nothing compared to what went down today.

just last week jlo was bragging about how geekdrome would never do a clip show. well...screw that. i would have settled for a good-bye and a series of clips to end the show.

oh everyone can say how the forums and irc will keep going strong...i think we all know that won't happen. this show was the glue that brought us all together.

i am so p*ssed. not at the fact that it is over...that saddens me. i am p*ssed cause this is how it went down? i know we have no right to know about the personal buisness behind it...just a proper farewell would have been appreciated.

Ok, kids, I must confess.

I am the Yoko Ono breaking up the 'drome.

For a while, I was sleeping with both DannyT and JLo, and neither one knew about the other. But then DannyT walked in on me and JLo in a moment of passion. The hurt in his eyes, the sheer pain I could see in his face, made me sure that he would love me more than JLo ever could. I had to choose DannyT over JLo.

Since DannyT has been my secret lover for a while now, it's been hard. I live in DC, he lives in LA. Well, I've had enough of that. I've demanded that if he wants to continue loving my ass in that special way, he has to move to DC and be with me. And I can't stand to have JLo around anymore.

So I've broken them up.

Once again, the gay mafia gets what it wants.

Just kidding. So long to the show, I enjoyed it quite a bit. And you know, when you break a gay man's heart, a puppy dies.

I haven't posted much of anything on these boards, but I've been a avid listener and forum lurker ever since the blogspot days, so many great memories you have given us, but what soundwave says really hits the nail, 1 last show to wrap it up? I can live with the show being over, but the last show wasn't the "real" geekdrome feeling, it was great never the less, but it was not a geekdrome. So heres to hoping you can reconcile your differences, what ever they might be, and give us 1 last show... Until your show finale comes out I'll be sitting here in rainy Denmark, in my geekdrome shirt, watching your old episodes over and over again...

Im sure

This was...unexpected, to say the least. I am not sure that you two (JLo and Dannyt) really understand what your show means to all of us geeks. We are constantly looking for some place where we feel comfortable and accepted. Those places are pretty tough to find for me and I will say that listening to your show was one of the few times I felt acceptable as the huge geek that I am. So the loss of your show really hurts and I am very saddened to see it go. Good luck to both of you.

That was not my intent. I'm saying that, with this announcement my Christmas is ruined.

Plus, I was trying to be brave and funny with a broken heart... obviously my humor is not the best at those moments, because you took it seriously.

I'm sure that, just like anything you do for fun, when you make a commitment to do it with deadlines and expectations, it becomes less fun. This is why I don't sign up for knitting exchanges where I have to have something made by a certain date... it becomes a chore, and a job, and I start hating what I used to love.

I have a feeling this is what happened here. It's just my guess though, take it for what you will.

Revision3, where podcasts go to die...........................j/k, :P

I'm probably just repeating what others have said, but I would like to add my $0.02; It just seems like such a slap to the face (and not even a loving one by JLo). DannyT just posts a thread and says its over? This is the anger talking I know but I feel like we are owned a little more respect than that. If we all started watching Heroes tonight and they just flashed a typed letter saying "sorry, its over", we'd be outraged, and so would JLo & DannyT; I just feel we deserve more than just a written response. On the other hand, i understand Dan needing to do what he feels is right, I just wish he would have done it in some other way than the way it was done.

I love all of you and we'll get through this...the forums will not dissappear, and if Jay even thinks about we'll bring the power of the drome to his doorstep, and he will not be liking that shit!

Guys, I'm the reason there was no goodbye show. Do not blame Dan for having to give a written statement. He did a great job with it and I definitely 100% okayed it before it was posted and supported him with it and continue to. It's sincere and comes from a genuine place.

I spent two hours last night looking at a blank screen. I really couldn't bring myself to write a statement on the end of Geekdrome because I didn't believe in it. I couldn't do a goodbye episode or write a statement and if you guys really wanted either of those from me, I'm sorry, but what I plan on doing next will just have to do.

Will it be perfect? Not with me involved.

Will it be the same? Not without Dan involved.

Will it kick your ass left and right and leave you asking for more? I'll let the program itself do the talking on that one.

But the only statement I can bring myself to write is a release statement for this new project. I haven't been this excited in a long time about much. I'm kind of scared even. But I know I can keep the weekly schedule. I know I can keep my energy up to try and carry it and I know there are people already lined up to be on it. That's all I can do. I welcome the stress and the challenge and the reward.

Let's PLEASE not mention Jay like he's some evil censor. He was one of the first people to get back to me and show their support for what I want to do next. I've had my frustrations just like you guys have but if you walk away from the challenges you face then you never get to the next step. I know Jay is swamped and very busy. I know that he's already hired people to start making things stronger at Rev3. One of them is my homie Jeff Rizzo, whose job is not only to get episodes up, but also to create a whole system to support the network's programming. He's responded to every e-mail I've ever sent him with questions. Show him your support and faith in what he's doing.

Now let's continue. I'll see you guys at next year's "Whatever it's gonna be called" Picnic. I might not even wait till a year to throw one. What're you guys doing this spring and summer? Got any plans?

Both Jon and Dan gave us something awesome with this podcast and they are both cool people who, once again, I thank for everything so far.

I'm here bro. I've read every single post this morning. I had a lot of catching up to do! And don't think I didn't have those "Rudy!...Rudy!...Rudy!..." tears welling up a few times.

Geekdrome is much more than a show, its a community-- its a ****ing drome dude-- and that will only go away if people leave it.

I'm happy to hear Jon's doing a show. See, its all good. Hopefully some projects I've been wanting to do could be something dromies would be into as well. Nothing changes, just gets re-arranged. Even I'm a MEMBER now on this forum! Can you believe it? It's all about growing. Its like I just had a bar mitzvah. Who wants to play coke and pepsi?

Of course!

There's no chosing sides, that's like choosing between my two kids...well, if I had more than one that is. We'll just miss your stories, reviews.."epic"! We're gonna miss you. There might be a new podcast and it's gonna be great, but your essence cannot be replaced. Didn't Invasion of the Body Snatchers teach us this?

We support you Dan, whatever it is you do next, just let us know. Dromies 4 life.

Whatever the reason might be I hope that you guys are still friends.

NO

... and if these forums would let me I'd just leave it at that. But now that I can't be as dramatic as just saying "no" I have something to say…

I really want to throw a temper tantrum and cry and whine and kick, but since I already know that won't do any good I'll save myself the headache. I believe wholeheartedly in both of you guys, and have every confidence that anything either of you pursue in the future will be successful. I know I'll always be in contact with Jon, he's totally like an older step-brother to me now. Dannyt, I want you to keep me posted with everything you're up to!

I cant believe it I came on here today to see if anyone knew a good TV show review podcast not knowing I'd lost the only show I've loved, thank you guys for a great show, I've have some great memories.

I'll never forget watching my first episode alone pizza hut in the middle of newcastle after a failed funding pitch.

Or the first time Dan T responed to a comment I made about trying the move from his short kickin' on the IRC, that was epic.

Or the first time J-lo repsoned to one of my posts on this forum, cant believe the hosts of my favorite show were interacting with me.

Or the time I found out J-Lo directed the Zolof Argh I'm a Pirate Video (and later many other of my favorite bands videos) and I realised my world just got a little smaller

Or the time my Dad told me he showed everyone at his work Gay By Dawn and they loved it, I was so proud to spread Jon's work.

Or even the first time anyone reply to my posts, this was the first forum I've ever become part of and I've loved every thread and every post THANK YOU EVERYONE.

I'll stick around, cant wait for J-Lo's new show, hopefully Graham, vijay and that rest of the extended Drome cast will be involved, and good luck in future projects Dan T.

As a 23 year ago man I shouldn't get upset about a video-podcast finishing but it was amazing. I hope this civil war Dan-T vs J-lo stuff stay's a joke and not turn into a Tom Delonge Mark Hoppus thing. (I miss Blink 182 as well)

See you guys around

I just posted this on Ctl-Alt-Chicken forum as well but does the fact the geekdrome has ended with Dan T leaving have any impact on CAC since Dan T has a major role in its production

Or will Dan continue work on this or will Dan be replaced?

And now it's down to one show on Rev3 that anyone cares about. I mean, I would care more if the shows came out in a timely (and on time) fashion or even if there was some sort of schedule so people would know what's up. I don't really like coming to Rev3 every few hours to see if they've finally released a show.

I know I'm not supposed to be getting on Rev3 about this but it has less to do with the end of Geekdrome and more to do with the direction of the network. It seems like a colossal waste of talent and ideas when shows don't take off because, for unknown reasons, episodes aren't being produced or the schedule is not accurate. It's not like there is a lack of talented people on air, it's just a lack of content. I'm sure if (the godawful) CNET or (horrendous) ZDNet had this roster we'd at least see more content.

I keep hoping this is a joke, but I guess it's really over. Geekdrome made me feel excited every time I headed to the graphic novel section of a bookstore and not feel embarrassed when I wanted to go into a comic bookstore I just discovered. Yeesh, a little late getting the news...

I just moved to Japan about 5 months ago, leaving behind most of my friends and all of my geeky cohorts. The daily conversations regarding the minutia of comics, movies, video games and TV were sorely missed, until I found Geekdrome. Here was an oasis in a land of people who didn't speak my language, a place where I could eavedrop of the geeky expounding of two guys who would've fit right in sitting around at the diner or my friends living room or walking out of the theater. It gave me a little piece of home to listen to at work, or while riding my bike, exploring this new and amazing place.

So thank you guys, for everything. And Jlo, I know your new show is gonna knock the shit out of my socks every day.

One thing I gotta add... One of my favorite things about this show was the sense that you guys were just a couple'a friends sitting around talking about what you were into. It reminded me of most of my friends back home. So whatever's going on, whatever the fate of the show is, I really hope that you guys can preserve that friendship. To me, that was the lynchpin of the entire show, and it would be a shame to let that die. You guy've been friends for a long while. Don't let that go or you'll seriously regret it. Trust me.

Ok, peace out, oh Kings of the Drome! See you around the forums, and remember to vote Van Damme in 2008!

You're telling me that DannyT and J. Lo can't set aside personal differences to talk about movies for a freakin' hour a week? (

Yeah, cuz that would make for some really great, friendly, podcasting. If differences can't be put aside it is better that our friends part to follow their own paths. That way we may be granted fruitful projects from both sides of the camp. We will miss you guys as a duo, but I know I for one can't wait to see what each of you are planning separately!

I can't believe this. I'm away for a day or two and I come back to all of this. I've just read through all 16 pages of posts, so that I could be up to date on what's been going down. :(

I know I haven't been around very long, and I don't have the close ties that most of you have with eachother, but this is really the first forum I ever stuck around and really meant anything to me. I'll never forget the first time someone replied to something I said. "Wait, you mean... they actually read MY posts??" :D

I'd also like to mention how Geekdrome helped me recently get a girlfriend. I stopped caring about hiding my geeky interests, and suddenly and without even trying I found a girl liking me and seeing me as one of the more interesting people in her life cause I would talk about stuff no one else would. :D

So now I'm left with this mixture of clashing feelings. I've watched the drome since the Kevin Smith days, it's been great all the way. I need my fix of Dan and JLo. I'll miss you guys, but hopefully this all won't end here. I look forward to any and all future projects! Thanks for the good times!

We all love the show, but I think the thing I enjoy most about Geekdrome is the forum community. It's always felt like a club in some ways, like a family in others, and it's not going anywhere. Unless Jon and Dan have been lying to us for the past 53 weeks, they feel the same way about you guys too. I hope that serves as a personal invitation for Dan to keep his geek passion alive on the forum.

I also don't think any of us are in a position to question Dan's decision to leave the show. If he says it's best for his personal or professional interests to not continue doing Geekdrome then we need to respect that without being bitter... no matter how much we'll miss him. They don't owe us any more of an explanation or a farewell show, but I think you owe both of them a "thank you" if you haven't already said it. Thanks to Dan and Jon for a years worth of great memories, a hand full that were mediocre at best, and even for episode 34 where I learned that a stand-up comic can bomb worse than Michael Richards.

Thanks to Vijay for his weekly commitment and killer zoom skills, that asshole Graham and his humorous forum posts, Rev3 for exposing me to the Drome, and to everybody else who helped make each episode possible. Now on a serious note, has anyone figured out the rotating shifts on Calderon's suicide watch? Also, we need a volunteer to remove the elastic from his underwear just in case he gets an unforeseen opportunity.

Boy this is really sad. Such a magical show pops up and is gone in a year. I'm 23 years old and I live on the east coast of the US, unfortunatly its rediculously expensive to live where I live. I decided when I moved into my apartment to skip cable or sattelite tv since I couldnt really afford it, even though I'm a huge media geek. Geekdrome was my favorite show ever, it wasnt just a podcast, it was my favorite show on tv or the internet ever, I really enjoyed Dans video game segments and enjoyed the "odd couple" feeling to the show. I also thought it was cool that you guys didnt drink or do drugs, as I too am strait edge. It will truly be missed. I dont have much to do these days, especially since my girlfriend quit on me. Just went to revision 3 to see if a new show was up and this is what I see. Very sad indeed. I wish you guys could somehow work it out. Anyway Jlo if you want a co-host via sattelite or something for your new show, count me in. And thanks guys for everything.

Just to make it clear to everyone, Jon isn't going any where, it is just Dan that is going to be leaving.

Jon has said that he has talked to Rev3 about this, and they are going to have him coninually doing a show, and Jon wants it to have more special guests, more locations, and just a more diverse and different (most likely better) show.

They say change is good...sometimes it's hard to believe that.

You guys rocked the house...and will continue to do so because that's who you are.

I sent these guys an email awhile back to thank them for the drome...so i thought i would share it with the rest of you. It's format is wierd cause i just copied and pasted it.

I guess I'll be creating a myspace spot just to stay in touch with the "Geek Godfathers" of Nerddome.

I credit the drome for helping me retrieve the desire to finish the cover of my novel...

If, for some reason, we lose touch - good luck my friends from afar.

---------------------------------------------

I was driving to work today, which gives me plenty
of time to think,
and I wondered why I sent those old drawings to you
guys . . .
thinking, "Why would they care? Why would I care to
send them?"

. . . and then it hit me.

When I was 5 i saw star wars in the theater and that
pretty much
kicked my imagination off . . . a couple years later
I got into
comics . . . i had a couple cousins who collected so
I would raid
their huge stash when ever we went to visit and i
would sit there
flipping through adventure after adventure . . .
laying on my stomach
in a pile of comics . . . i quickly fell in love
with Batman and
Green Arrow . . . because they reminded me of my
other favorites,
Zorro and Robin Hood . . ,. and then spiderman
caught my eye . . .
and those are the heroes I dove into . . .

. . . living in the country i had nothing much to do
except
draw . . . so draw i did . . . and did throughout
school being the
quote "artist" of the class . . . it was a huge part
of who I
was . . . and then I got into college and joined the
army to help pay
for it . . . and being in college gave me access to
a comic
store . . . so i got into them even more when i
discovered Jim
Lee . . . i collected quite a bit . . . and i was
drawing more . . .
but then all of a sudden i was swamped with art
assignments that took
my hobby and force fed art down my throat until i
puked it up . . .
and then they made me eat the art vomit until i was
so sick of art's
smell, It started to turn my stomach whenever i
touched a pencil or
saw a pad of paper . . . my hobby wasn't a hobby
anymore . . . it
felt like work . . . and then my gfried of 8 years
decided she didn't
need me anymore . . . so i dropped out of school
leaving art and
drawing behind me . . .

. . . this is where Geekdrome comes in . . .
suddenly, after a 10
year lull in my desire to draw and read comics . . .
i find these
reciepts in my wallet for comics again . . . and the
desire to make a
sketch here and there . . . and that's why i shared
those old
drawings . . .

Geekdrome has reminded me . . . well actually, it's
helped find me
again . . . a part of myself that's been lost for
quite a long time
and I'm having fun getting to know myself again . .
. so sharing
those old pics was my way of thanking you . . .

. . . I hope this isn't too wierd . . . if it is,
who cares - you'll
forget it then . . . but if it's not too wierd . . .
appreciate a
heart felt thanks from a complete stranger who lives
states
away . . . not just me from today . . . but that
ghost of myself
who's returned with that goofy kid smile standing
right beside me
too . . . we are both waving from Wisconsin . . .

Live Large

They have lives outside of the hour of Geekdrome they filmed every week. What goes on in that time really isn't any of our business.

A lot of people have invested themselves into this community, but none more than Dan and Jon. It's not fair for them to keep going on if it means they're not going to enjoy it. Geekdrome shouldn't be a burden on either or their lives or put stress on their friendship and it seems that has been the case.

Through my own experiences, I assume a lack of communication is what caused some of the problems. If thats the case then don't expect them to address their issues here with us if they can't even do it with each other. I'm voting that we respect their privacy.

I also hope that everybody is as excited as I am to here about Jon's new project, he should announce the details soon.

I'm a relatively new viewer, I started watching around 38 or so, but instantly was addicted.

Anyways, you guys sparked my geekness. I've always been a geek but you guys inspired me to expand my geekiness.

And JLo, good luck on your new project, I'm looking forward to it.

God, I only started watching around 43, but in the short time since then I've watched every episode in the archives, even the old ones just filled me with a sort of unabashed geek joy. I have always been a geek, loved comics and movies but I am another person that has been opened up by the drome. It has helped me to accept myself, and that is something huge, that can not often happen as a result of watching two random guys talking about movies and comics, but it did. DannyT and Jlo, after becoming a fan I grew to trust your opinions on all things geek more than anyone. I was looking forward in my mind to years of the show, being able to look back to its humble beginnings, but this is really something. I'm more thankful than I can express correctly for what you have given to this community, and I am truly, truly sad to see the show go. I want to see a new Jlo show, but I'm sad to say that for me, it will never be the same. Your opinions were similar, but you both had your own style that created an engaging show, and I became to think of you as friends, even though I never knew you. I really just think that it is unfair of you two to go out on this note, It's like a girlfriend breaking up with you with a snappy text, we need the full confession guys. A quick question, will you two still check the geekdrome@yahoo.com email? Or should we email you two separately from now on, really though, you two seemed like best friends, I hope that it's not a personal reason that split the show, it's almost too much to take... Sorry for the rambling post, I will miss Geekdrome very much.

I got on my computer today anticipating an episode of Geekdrome, not knowing what had happened earlier in the forums (as you see I don't post at all) I was really confused because I know every Tuesday I get my great fix of Geekdrome. I feel really sad because it was time out of my day that I didn't feel like I had to guard my geek-ness from my family or any outside source, I could just relax. I would like to thank not just Dan and John but the Geekdrome community for their ample support in the show. I felt even more sad as I read the post from avid fans, I never thought I could have felt this way just because of a show.

I’m looking forward to be a part of this great community, as I should have been from the start.

Just wanted to post how much I loved your show and how absolutely devastated I am that you guys are going your separate ways. The 'Drome has been what has gotten me through my final semester in grad school without killing myself or others. Well, that's an overstatement, but working my way through the drome archives certainly did prevent me from doing my work, and exposed me to a fair number of good comics and movies. I didn't always agree with you guys, but I loved to hear your opinions nonetheless. All the best.

PS Danny T the only reason I signed up for the forums was to suggest some comics to you for the show. I just happened to do it the day after you ended the show. Since I started watching, you've convinced my to buy Y: The Last Man, Sandman, Blankets, Pride of Baghdad, Civil War, Frank Miller's 300, and have really got me deep into comics.

Ya same here, I was a comic fan when I was younger but because I didn't have easy access to a comic store since it closed down I stopped reading them, but after watching Geekdrome since episode 16 it got me back into them, starting with Civil War. My love of comics is back and its thanks to you guys. I watch a lot of vidcast/podcasts but with the long lasting ones like yours my interest usually faded, but with GeekDrome I couldn't wait each week for it to be released, it really was something special and I wish you guys the best of luck because I know you just wouldn't end the show so abruptly if there wasn't a good reason. So best of luck guys.

The viewership for Geekdrome had to be going up quite a bit. I only discovered it a few month ago and knew a ton of people who started watching around the same time as myself. Then word spread even more.

I don't understand why there can't be an episode once a month at least. Dan is awesome, but why can't Jon just do shows by himself or with guests - if Dan not being able to do episodes is the main reason.

This was Rev3's best show. There really aren't too many podcasts as solid as this one.

Damnit, I get really busy for 4 months, and the whole thing goes to potty.

I think what would be worse than Geekdrome being cancelled would be if the show caused Jon and Dan to no longer be friends. Call me sappy but that would make me feel a lot worse.

Personally I would have preferred that the show had to end because they got really busy with their directorial work (or whatever the hell they do for cash) and just didn't have time to do the show anymore. It's a lot better than "personal reasons" which just sounds like you are saying "I can't stand that jerkface anymore, and an hour a week I spend with him makes me gag".

It's like you are best friends, but your best friend has a friend (we'll call him Graham) that you just can't stand, but you get that he's your friend's friend. You just don't wanna hang out with them both anymore.

I forgive you for making me more interested in Geekdrome than any other show for over a year. I will forgive you both a lot more if you start moving closer to your goals.

And yeh, I know I'm way behind on the times here, but it still bums me out. Bums me out to the point where I feel like my stomach's gonna erupt from my torso...or maybe that was some bad sushi i ate or something.

Anyway...Good luck to DannyT and Jlo on whatever they'll be doing next. Jlo, as soon as your new podcast hits, I'll be one of the first to watch...well maybe not, but I'll be watching.

So much for a triumphant return to the forums huh?

Dear Geekdrome,

I have only just discovered how awesome you are. Hence, you are forbidden to end your podcast.

I cannot be disobeyed. I was a demi-goddess in a minor Internet religion, I've been drawn as a comic heroine, and I will beat you at the video game of your choosing.

Please? Stay?

I'll fly down and flail around to give you something to talk about.

Both of you will go far, I know it, you're both so talented and creative, just don't ever give up following your dreams.
