View Full Version : The "I'm not gonna let geekdrome die" thread...

I don't think its too far fetched to say that the death of geekdrome is the biggest tragedy in the geek community since the Star Wars prequels...
I mean, really, why was Anakin a whiny little kid? ;)
But, I digress, If J.Lo and DannyT can't do this anymore, I say, why can't somebody else? While of course, J.Lo and DannyT were great hosts (probably the BEST hosts), why should geekdrome die because they can't get along? It doesn't seem fair, especially because so many of us used the show as a spawning point for kickass conversations and "epic" discussions.
Can they not find another friend to do this with? Is there any possible way that another set of geeks could take over? Perhaps some of the loyal dromies across this country and overseas? I just don't understand why an entire community has to die because two guys can't be friends anymore.

I don't think its too far fetched to say that the death of geekdrome is the biggest tragedy in the geek community since the Star Wars prequels...Geekdrome wont die. But with the absense of DannyT, it will evolve.
For now, and until any announcements are made (not saying there will be - I don't know), there are the forums.

I remember there was a post once, awhile ago, stating that Jon and Dan are Geekdrome. Without the both of them there is no 'Drome.
I can appreciate that, but it would be nice to get my reviews, news, trailers with geek flavor each week....
Plus, it would be nice to have a proper send off. But honestly, deep down this isn't 100% shocking, don't ask me why....

As they are both aspiring film makers, they were never going to do this for ever.
I suppose the fact if there is something between the two the fact that recently two episodes had only one hosting the show (both incidently ran real well IMO) sure fuels that theory. Also that we're not getting a farewell show to wrap things up does that even more, but Danny says it's a personal thing, and well it's not my business to pry, so I'll accept, but hope that it'll be back.
I could also Imagne JLo and his Step mom hosting as she's pretty switched on to all things geek.
You guys at the picnic know anything we don't? If there was going to be another anniversary picknick Moshi_what and I were going to fly over.

sloppybunny, shut up.
We get it, it was free. We enjoyed it. Jon and Dan have other aspirations...do you think this has gone over anyone's heads? Please, it might not be my business and no, they don't owe anyone an explanation but I spent lots of time with this podcast. I will miss it dearly, so that doesn't stop me from wondering why one of my favorite things to listen to is just gone, just like that.
I'm already dealing with this as adult as I can. But it's Monday, I've spent a whole week with a daughter who's been sick and coughing up a lung and I'm a dromette who is PMS-ing and just found out my favorite podcast has been cancelled. You're just asking too much for me to stifle all of my sensibilities and curiosity here. They don't have to answer any questions, but don't tell me to stop asking. I'm not going to jump off a bridge or anything, but I think I'm allowed to stew...just a little bit.
(sloppy is going to be the straw that breaks my back this morning).

Dear, don't presume on how I'm feeling and what I'm thinking. You and sloppy can go talk about how this year has been wonderful and how you're grateful about the year of free entertainment.
While I love Jon and Dan and I'm happy for their new journey, I'll grieve in my own way thank you very much. AND I'll PMS where I please. I have questions and they can decide whether they want to answer, not sloppy.

Calm down girls! :p I should have replaced 'our' with 'my'. I do believe in public and private life, and well if they don't want to give an exact reason well, in my opinion I don't think it's my place to go on a rampage how it's unfair and I'm ripped off. So on and so forth. ... bla blah
My main point though probably was that maybe I'm not sad about no more Geekdrome (Although I am). I'm also ancious to see what they'll come up with next. I've been watching this show since episode 18, and I've been getting more attached week by week. I've only became a regular forum poster recently so I haven't had the chance to fully get to know a lot of you, but I got to know some OK and generally there's a warm vibe here.
Sorry Iggystar, I don't think I'm posting anything malicious here, I'm just like anyperson with an arsehole I have plenty of inane opinions, and I feel like posting them up on a public forum ;)

No, there is no fight. This is about everyone being able to express their sadness in their own way. I don't want anyone to tell a hurting geekdrome fan to "just be happy with the year", if that's not how they feel.
Some people have questions that might not be answered, some people are just satisfied with saying "goodby". But no one should impose either view.
Again, there is no fight.

Yes. It was free financially. But that doesn't mean you guys didn't invest in it. For a year you guys showed up and showed your dedication. And yes, we didn't get paid. But that doesn't mean there weren't vast rewards.
If you guys want an explanation I am sorry. Personal is personal and the only place I get personal while in front of you guys is on a podcast. I do respect Dan and refuse to go into any of that.
But blame me for no farewell episode because I refused to say goodbye to you guys. I don't believe in saying goodbye unless you mean it and especially if you are not done with what you started.
I'm sorry that your boy is sick. I spent the weekend with a really bad cold and losing sleep but I'm pretty sure I'll be okay.
Just tell him your mom might be feeling better a lot sooner than she thinks too. It's the holidays and I'm as excited to keep giving as you mothers are to be getting. I just need to check my naughty and nice list and get all my ducks in a row. But I've already started making some toys so clear some space under the tree. Or on your ipod.
And let's quit treating this place like a funeral home.

just thought i'd repost this in this thread, where it belongs...
i just got up and have got a lot to deal with but I'm not leaving at all. There's going to be more shows and there's going to be a hiatus period, but we should all be here for it. There is no reason to leave these forums b/c these forums are bigger than the show. These forums became the blood that pumped through the heart of the show (us) and it really became amazing how we all treated and regarded each other as family, friends, or even lovers (slowmy ) haha.
Sure, Dan decided to leave because he couldn't get over personal differences for the benefit of tens of thousands of people, but that doesn't mean we should follow in his step and abandon something that's meant so much to all of us without a second thought. I, for one, will be here until these forums are nothing but dust and Jon and I are going to be the ones cleaning it up...wait, that's not going to happen! These forums are going to stay strong, and so are we.
There's no reason that ALL of us shouldn't be here next time Heroes comes out, or Studio 60, or Veronica Mars, Battlestar, CIVIL WAR! (5 was good), The Boys, The Office (GO TEAM PAM!), or any other show we all know and love, b/c sadly, it is MOST shows.
We have a great thing going here and I'm not going to let it die. You know when people say "Dromies never say die"? Well they don't. This one doesn't, and this one will not.
I know this is really sad and we're all going to be completely bummed, but rev3 is going to keep these forums up as long as we keep them bumpin. And I know that, at least for the wrong reasons right now, these forums ARE bumpin. So get your cries out, get your hugs out, pour your love onto that keyboard and let's keep talking about stuff that we all love. This is like friends moving away to other colleges, but you know what smart friends do? They keep in touch. Should we start a google group? maybe a weekly chatroom? or...wait...WE HAVE THESE FORUMS! Let's use these!!! and a GREAT irc run by my buddy Tidus.
It's a big deal, but the only thing leaving here is the show, in the form of Dan, not the friendships, not the movies, not the tv shows, definetely not the comics, not Jon, not everything we've ever had, and certainly not this creepy son of a bittch.
maybe when Dan reads all of this he'll realize that his leaving for personal reasons affects more than just himself. And how much what he helped create meant to so many people. Sugarsickness' story made me all that much more sad and seeing that made me want to write this and to say I'm still here for you dude, any and all of us who loved this as much as I did are going to be here. I know I'll have my Elite Dromettes, who own me, and everyone else who made their home here.
I love all you guys and am sticking around forever to talk aboutevery shitty movie I see, every stupid show, and every awesome comic. Who will I be friends with when i finally get a wii?!!!!!!
There's no reason to leave other than knee jerk emotions. Zim will be back. Soundwave will be back. If we give them and ourselves something to come back to, then there is no reason to ever leave.
I love you guys. DROMIES NEVER SAY DIE. Brian.

Dan will still be active on these forums I'm sure. Let's not knock him for his decision here or anywhere else unless you have all the facts. And I'm pretty sure no one does.

The reason he's staying was because this was an awesome show, the only podcast he really cared about, and the dromies and the dromettes are really great people, best people he ever talked to...***
i met some wonderful people here, all of u that i got to know well, would easily be some of my good friends or already are, if our home is gone, it doesnt mean we should disband the party(im almost level 38) we keep fighting, for we will always have zeh drome, in here, in yourselfs. I like i stated above, i really have nothing else to do, so im gonna stick around 'till the end of time, im not a movie geek or a comic geek, so this is a good place for me to ask for recommendations knowing zeh im gonna get some great answers. So Buxomia, Divadawg and Iggystar, I think you're all super cool and I rather be friends :) But I don't think you guys should judge her that way.
I know we haven't been part of the forum since inception, but we like it here all the same.
I made my apology where I upset Iggystar for speaking accidently on behalf of too many people. I don't have a right to tell you how you should feel. BTW I have a 7 year old little brother, and I work with kids a lot and I know how much it sucks when kids are ill, so I hope your girl feels better.
To me it's not like either of them died, the forums are still up, both JLo and Danny still post here. They are both working on new projects. Apparantly the new show will be up before the end of the year, that's like less then a month away. I'm more excited then sad to be honest. Geekdrome hasn't actually ended, just that weekly fix is on a brake and it'll come back under a new name. Sorry if that opinion offends the dromies and the dromettes :P
Now you girls all kiss and make up with my fave dromette (You just have to love geekdrome to qualify, right?) and get down to your nighties and have a pillow fight. I'll be looking on from the pervertdrome where I now reside :P
