I know some of you will not watch anything but geekdrome until the new stuff comes out, but for those that want some alternatives here's a thread for our community to trade possible methadone like podcasts until we get back on track.
I've found a short podcast about 5 minutes long that's frickin hilarious called This is a knife. it's only about 7 or 8 minutes per week but it's comedy gold
Next up, Letter To America about 2 american's living in Belfast, one of them works for the BBC, but this is not affiliated with the beeb.
both of these are funny, but are not geek related so much.
who else has one for us to check out.

I'm assuming that most people are like me and have watched all those at least once... I've seen all the diggnation eps along with all the great stuff rev3 has to offer... this is for those of us that need something more.... also, what's wrong with 53?
satori you are rabid about this Letter to America crap. I will have to pimp that shit. I suck at finding good podcasts, and I try sometimes, only to find corporate sponsored crap on iTunes. "this is a knife" i will also search for.
i don't know how many people have been watching SweatyRobot since they were guests, but i've been a rabid fan since they were featured. check them out again if you've drifted away. their podcast is great, and they're getting better at the whole video thing!

JLo's step Mom was awesome ... its just that 52 episodes fits nicely as a "Geekdrome: The Wonder Year" boxed set. Perhaps Ep53 would be on the special bonus disc.
Two thumbs up on Letter to America. Great podcast.
While not geek/movie/comic related, I also enjoy Coverville (music covers show - 2-3 times per week, 30-50min/ep)... and what geek doesn't enjoy alternate covers to great (and not so great) songs?

If that doesn't fly...Jello wrestling!I'm for the jello wrestling as well ... given the dromettes that could potentially be involved, that would make for a killer box office take for a Pay-Per-View event.
The Weekly Geek, it's a podcast about video games, and it comes out on mondays. =x I started listening to it when geekdrome stopped being up on mondays =t

Definately the 1up show. I mean, its stagey and sometimes it doesnt work at all, but you still get solid video game conversations. Plus they get some cool exclusive interviews and press. But for movies I dont think anything out there is similar to what weve come to expect from the drome.
I've been looking for a good music news podcast forever. One devoid of the predictable shit that the MTV and RollingStone podcasts which give me--all the "hottest updates" on Paris Hilton's "music career" and the latest concert dates for "Lil Jon and the Eastside Boyz."
So if anyone could point me in the direction of a quality music news podcast that has some dignity, please point me in the right direction.

its audio only, but Top Welt (The Only Podcast Worth Ever Listening To- their definition, not mine) is actually pretty ok, and they are getting better as they do more and more episodes. They've had some pretty cool bands on, so you'll want to go back and listen to the old episodes. They also talk about video games and movies (but aren't as good at that part as Jon and Danny) and even note their influence to start their show as being Geekdrome.

If you like intelligent movie reviews--a good show is "Filmspotting." They are far more scripted than Jon and Dan were, but they also tend to be more in depth. It ain't geekdrome, but it gets your film fix in.

Also I just watched GameTrailers.com Bonus Round show, it was pretty interesting. It's the host and 3 game industry proffesionals discussing topics in the industry.

Cheers for all the suggestions. I just downloaded a whole bunch.
I used to listen to The Movie Blog every week. It's funny as hell but they always repeat their topics (hence the "used to") - remakes, superhero movies (they LOVE superhero movies), box office predictions and how stupid movie studio x is being. It's been a while though and they've brought a fourth host in so it might've gotten better.

The Hollywood Saloon
A very comprehensive, movie podcast. My only complaint is they come out so infrequently. But you should check out the old episodes. They've done "Master Class" episodes discussing a director's entire career, Spike Lee, David Fincher, etc. They've done eps. on the evolution of the dvd market. Discussed Marvel vs. DC superhero movies. Usually an episode is about 2 hours long and the guys who host are mature (in their 30's), but fun.
It's really cool check it out.

The Hollywood Saloon ... Discussed Marvel vs. DC superhero movies.
i just don't know about this podcast. the Marvel vs. DC thing was good, but kind of weak at the same time.
i listened to part 1 and 2 of the Marvel vs. DC battle... where is the promised part 3? (UPDATE: i e-mailed the guys, it is due in early 2007) and they cut the X3 review from part 1 and cut Superman Returns from part 2, and they aren't part of the podcast feed. (they are on the web page, but I think should be part of the feed.)
they left out a lot on DC and Marvel in regards to animation. the Saturday morning Spider-Man and X-Men cartoons, the new Ultimate Avenger movies, etc. are a big part of Marvel's strategy to get a wider audience for their viewers, so this should have really been covered (of course, if you can only produce one show a month then covering all of this in any detail is impossible).
they also missed The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, a DC property, as well as V for Vendetta. (they included Swamp Thing and Constantine, though, so they are aware that there are other DC properties outside of the main line). Alan Moore is a big part of the DC movie machine.
they also missed Men In Black, which is owned by Marvel. and the TV show Mutant X, which was also a Marvel property.
a good amount of history about the movies and some good use of sound clips (though the trailer clips were overdone). but it is too incomplete. I will still check out part 3 when it becomes available as I want to see what their end conclusions are, but I really need to listen to more of the show before I can make up my mind on if I like it or not.

Joshua, c'mon! The podcast is already like two hours long, give the guys a break. It's still two movie geeks expounding on what they love, so it's opinions and discussion, it's not like the Marvel/DC bible or anything.
Did you check out one of the Master Class episodes? Star Wars episode? If you find a more comprehensive podcast on any given movie subject, please let me know so I can download it.

you're right. when someone says they are going to do a 3 part Marvel vs. DC podcast I expected it to be pretty definitive, but that is impossible with such a big topic. I really do want to listen to part 3 and see what kind of conclusions they can draw as far as if one is better than the other. (at least, I hope there are some conclusions... else it has been more of a history lesson than a VS. battle.) they did say that Marvel's philosophy right now seems to be favoring quantity over quality, and that is one conclusion i wholeheartedly agree with.
I am just being overly critical of new shows because I miss my 'drome.

One thing about that podcast is you really can't sit around waiting.... I made that mistake, did the same thing you did, started e-mailing people. Then I realized that if you get two episodes a month you're doing good, usually it's once a month, sometimes longer. They are sloooooooow. I've been waiting on a Master Class episode for Stanely Kubrick since I've started listening and have stopped waiting on part 3 for Marvel vs. DC (it will happen eventually). They just started on the definitive Bond episodes......you have to be patient with this 'cast.
But if it means anything, one of the host's wife recently gave birth to a premie so I'm sure that's playing a part now.
P.S. One funny thing about the show, while I usually appreciate their opinions, they acutally liked "Lady in the Water". While I wholeheartedly disagree, it was interesting listening to their discussion.

There's this underground podcast called Diggnation, it's pretty good.
Unfortunately it's hard to find a good long podcast, but a couple short funny ones are The Little Buzzers, Awesome Video Games, Homestar Runner (even though you can find it all online, it's like a highlight reel), and the Tim and Eric Podcast, the guys who created Tom Goes to the Mayor. None of it is intellectual commentary, but they're funny as hell. Plus these almost never update, except for Homestar, but what's there is spiritual.
Also props on the Lynchland. Good guy, good guy. Alex Albrecht was on Episode 12 (Little fun fact)
Oh my god, also if you can find the Nacho Libre podcast that was used as a promotional shtick, it's ****ing hilarious. Jack Black as Jack Black. What could be greater.
