Well almost...
The CW has made a pilot commitment to The Graysons, a series based around DC Comics superhero Robin's early years, says Variety.
Smallville executive producers Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson will steer the show, along with Supernatural's McG.
The CW views The Graysons as companion show for Smallville, or a direct replacement should the Superman prequel end next year.
In Robin's comic book origin, Dick Grayson is a circus acrobat who witnesses his parents die when a gangster sabotages their trapeze equipment. He subsequently assumes the superhero identity of Robin and becomes Batman's sidekick.
Burt Ward and Chris O'Donnell have previously portrayed Robin on screen.

Unless the CW thinks they can market a show about an 11-year old circus boy and his family this is going to be incredibly inaccurate.

Always hated robin and Batman never needed a sidekick.
but besides that a teen show about a kid in tights in a circus already sounds like fail.

why can't they just learn from comics and make a Hush miniseries?

Because they want to make good TV.

From what I've read, Batman has always needed a Robin. Basically to keep him from being a complete psychopath who patrols the city and has a very skewed vision of justice. There was a real good article on IGN about the inclusion of Robin in the Nolan films, and they make some good points.
Now the idea of a Smallville featuring the Grayson family seems like it's doomed for cancelation. Robin doesn't become interesting till his parents die and he is raised by Batman. I mean would they really allow a show where a teenage is nearly beaten to death by Two-Face and was forced to pick who would die. Cool character, but yeah a story about a circus boy sounds like something for ABC Family.

Unfortunately, Robin will never show up in the Nolan films (if there are any more, which I also doubt). Bale has said if Robin ever gets involved hes out.

They don't have to have Robin it was more introducing Dick Grayson into the movies. Kind of like the first film nods at Joker you don't see him until Dark Knight. With Robin, he can be brought into Batman's life and Robin is another reason Bruce doesn't slip further into a darker place. Robin: Year One was a good read on how Batman actually appeared to be happy to have basically a son with him.

This wreaks of a bunch of suits sitting around going "Comic book properties are hot, lets throw something in front of these mouth breathers and rake in the cash"
Honestly geeks work for cheap, every year go to the Revision 3 forums and pick a couple out and they'll be your consultants for a year, each year do it again.
Even if you were dead set on this formula you could do other, BETTER comic book heroes.
[note I just got lost at Wikipedia for a half an hour going through rabbit trails of comic book heroes]

It's a TV show, of course it's going to suck. 99% of what you put on TV sucks, and the fact that it's not on HBO, Showtime, Showcase, or FX pretty much multiplies it's chance of fail by 10.

If they wanted to do a new Batman series well, they would make it dark like the Spawn series they did on HBO, and keep it in the same realistic tone and world of the Dark Knight/Batman Begins.

Yep, animated...back in the late 90s. Keith David voiced Spawn.
