So DSi announced.

I hate this thing already..say here what I said in a chat.
" IMO they should have saved all this for DS2 plus gave it a wider screen and made the touch multi touch"
"a SD slot...hey Nintendo so you will do it for DS to give more backup when it didn't need it but won't for wii when it does? ...ugh"
" No GBA port =no sale sticking with DS lite"
"guess they wanted it to cramp our hands more and fit better in a stupid envelope"

I've been in the market for a new DS for a while, but never could settle down with the Lite. Granted, this new one isn't the must-own DS, but I feel a lot better upgrading from 1st gen to 3rd than going from 2nd to 3rd.
Camera seems useless. Maybe in Japan people carry their DS more than cellphones, I don't know. I guess it's nice to have, but makes no sense why it's there. Wonder what games will utilize that feature.
Lack of GBA is fine by me since I don't use that slot anyways. Okay, so the Guitar Hero add-on is pretty much useless with the new one. I'm a bit bummed by that news, seeing as how I was actually interested in it.
Seems like it's trying to play catch up with the PSP in terms of media capabilities. In any case, I want the DSi, or get a DS Lite for cheaper now. That screen on the DS Phat is horrible in comparison to the others.
@Ryudo, seems you spoke too soon: http://kotaku.com/5057877/save-wii-games-direct-to-sd-card-starting-spring-2009

The no DS slot thing also gimps the Pokemon games which allow you to transfer pokemon from the GBA games into Diamond and Pearl. Why would Nintendo wanna disrupt that?
Anyway, this whole thing sounds dumb to me. Just a whole lot of added fluff to bring in some more cash. Gotta roll out a new model since most of the world already owns the current model.

Glad the Wii storage is fixed.
btw the press keeps getting it wrong,it's not duo touch screen, video at IGN shows it's still just one and hearing reports that the press got over excited when posting that.
DSi looks dumb to me esp no GBA port and why is the power button moved BACK into a place like on phat where many accidental turn offs?
STUPID!
And the camera is no better than 640x480...same as my 12$ webcam.
Cell phones do better.
sounds like a bloated DS with crap I would never use.
Keeping the DS lite and DSi can eat crap.

Finally they change the menu interface, the old one looks so outdated.
Hope we can quit the game and go back to main menu instead of turn off the device, something they should have already done in the 1st version.

I (basically) called it (http://www.slicedgaming.com/blogs/blog149.html).
Still, for some reason I'm attached to my Phat and don't think I'll upgrade until the proper DS2 with gyroscope/rumble and brand new innards, rather than just the firmware upgrade and the odd bit of tweaking. I don't see how the power button is going to be a problem - do you have trouble with accidentally hitting select all the time? And it's inset, too, and will no doubt require a solid second or two to turn off. Does anyone know what the little button remote thing shown in some of the pics is?
I do like how the Miis seem to have transitioned to the handheld platform.

Hmm, y'see when I see this I feel the same way I did about the iPhone3G.
Its good, its made some improvements over the previous model but I don't think its a full enough upgrade over the Lite to warrant getting rid of yours if you have one in order to replace it.

I won't be upgrading anytime soon. I do have some Pokemon games, as well as Final Fantasy & Kingdom Hearts for my GBA. So unless there is some way to play those on the Wii I'll be holding onto my Lite. Not only that, but this is another version to mess with the people who won't know the differences. Also, if people don't know better might they be inclined to buy the DS Lite if it is at a lower price point? Or would they keep both of them the same to really throw their customers off? I guess Sony has been doing that with the 12 million PSP bundles.

I think it's kind of neat, but at this point I don't see myself making use of the upgrades enough to justify the purchase. I don't really need the multimedia support since I have an iPhone and a PSP. I don't see myself using the camera unless they really become inventive with ways to integrate it into gameplay.
I won't miss the GBA slot. I never play old GBA games anymore, and I've barely used it with the rumble pack.
The smaller is nice, but it isn't so much smaller to justify the price. At the same time, you can sell the DS lite on Ebay for nearly as much as it costs new, so it wouldn't be that much more to buy this thing.
I wonder if they will have figured out a way to make the flash carts not work with the updated unit.

I'll probably get the thing day one since I'm such a Nintendo fanboy. But what really interests me about the new system is the downloadable games.

I'm most definitely not sold on this yet. Plus, its kind of ugly, what with the big camera hole in the back. My DS lite works just fine for me.
