Awesome show! I wish it was around a couple decades ago when I started playing guitar. I've studied a decent amount of theory, but I'm still going to keep watching to fill in some of the gaps in my knowledge.
Keep up the great work, Walt. :D

I totally agree. Walt has energy, he's funny, and smart on camera. The show looks like it's shot in a dorm room, and this makes it even more fun.

Just saw episode 2, great job. :D
I really liked your explanation of the relationship between length and pitch.
I just have two questions ...
1. Are your going to be getting into the theory behind scale and chord construction?
For me, that's when it all started to click. When I learned how the notes related to each other and fit together it all made a lot more sense.
2. What's with the sweatband? lol

Ps. You should have strummed the A add9, it's got a really nice sound.

Thx for the kind words :) here the answers to your questions.

1.) Yep - I LOVE threory and chord construction. So expect to see alot of that. People find that to be extremely interesting, plus there's alot I plan on doing with the show.

2.) Basically the sweatband is to cover up 'wrong notes' while I play. Typically, when you solo, you don't use open strings. So the sweat band 'mutes' or 'muffles' the open strings if I were to ever accidently play on or create feedback. its an old guitar trick used in recording and live shows. I'm adding it to my Rev 3 Music Episode 4.

3.) Agreed the A add9 chord is intense. i'll throw it down for you in the next episode!

Thx so much for the support!

Ahh ok, I thought it was a mute, but I wasn't sure. That's a good idea, I'm going to have to try it. Most of the time I'm playing lead, my left is curled into a blues claw so my first finger and thumb take care of the muting, but it will definitely come in handy for slide and tapping. I've tried rubber bands and bandannas, but they didn't quite do the trick.

Your explanation of how to read was one of the simplest and best that I've seen (and I've seen a lot). I hope you'll be doing more on it. I've always sucked at sight reading and I think you might be able to help me out. Also, thank you for talking about the power of silence, it's an important thing to learn. I've been trying to explain the same thing to another guitar player that I've been working with for the last few months. He''s an old school shredder so it's taking him a while, but he's starting to get the hang of it. I should send him a link to that episode.

I guess I'm going to be the sour note here but don't get me wrong I really like the show. I just have some constructive criticism for how I feel the show could be improved.

A few people here mentioned Walt's energy. He certainly has that. But I think the energy level sometimes goes too far and gets in the way of actually providing the information to us. Facts are rattled off so quickly that it is often times hard to follow what the point is. Walt, you're not alone in this, Patrick Norton on Tekzilla does the same thing. Walt - slow down! If you are short on time and don't feel you can fit it all in one show, leave it for the next show. Is it written in stone that you have to do 52 shows. If people don't understand the basics that you are presenting now, what chance will they be around for the 52nd show?
And as far as show length, do we really need a 1 minute intro telling us how awesome the show will be and then ending with a 2 minute segment telling us how awesome the show was and how the next one will be even more awesome. Clearly, a good 1/4 of the show is devoted to self promotion. Cut the intro and the ending and use the time for teaching - slowly.
Another thing that is not needed and is an annoyance (to me anyway) is the background music. There are times when it is so loud that it is difficult to understand what you are saying. Keep the background music to a minimum and use it only to illustrate something you are trying to teach.
And finally, please, please, google some articles on basic video lighting techniques. I realize that you probably have a budget for production cost of close to zero but there are ways to make things look better than what you are producing for little additional money.

I agree with what your saying. You mentioned a lot of good ideas here. I think this show could be a big hit. It just needs a bit of tweaking.

Hey Grip and company!

I agree - I need to tweak a few things. The intro will be shorter now, as will the outro. The content will continue to get better too.

As for the lighting.. I've done every conceivable technic over time, and what I have now is the best result so far.

I'll continue to work on stuff. Thanks for the kind words :) Keep in touch, and let me know how it continues to get!

Stay well,
Walt

You don't suck at sight reading. you only do if you think you do.

The power of positive thinking - So you don't :)

Never forget that!
