SEGA have announced a new WiiWare title called Let's Catch, which bears a little resemblence to a game idea I sent to Gabe & Tycho at Penny Arcade around the time the Wii was released. Obviously, I doubt very much SEGA stole my idea, but I thought you might all be interested.
Here's the notes I made regarding my game idea, entitled Wii Catch:
Wii Catch - by Wes Williams 18/12/2006
---------
3D first/third person throwing and catching game for 1 - 4 players
Goal of the game is to successfully throw and catch balls of varying materials, weights and sizes in varying environments.
A simple example would be to throw a ball through the hole in a tyre that is suspended from a rope.
A more complex example would be to throw a ball so that it bounces off of various objects before being caught, each object would give bonus points.
Additional types of objects could be used for throwing. Simple things like paperplanes, frisbee's and boomerangs and more far out things like sheep, refrigerators etc.
Mii's would be used to represent the players in the game.
Online play would be a must.
Game would be akin to mini-golf, in that it takes a simple game (i.e. Catch) and turns it into something a little more adventurous.
I envisage the family appeal of catch to be the main draw for a title that would see parents and children playing together.
I'm thinking perhaps you wouldn't move your player, just like Wii Sports Tennis, but instead you'd control the type of catch through your movements...so single handed for greater reach, double handed for more control...crouching, diving left/right, jumping
