At Dan's behest, I picked up the old flick. I must say it is quite good. I was curious all the way through, and never bored. I won't say it didn't show its age, it certainly did, but not necessarily in a bad way. Some of the stuff undoubtedly seems cheesy now (e.g. showing someone getting punched in the face from the first person), but some of that is probably because some of the film's elements have been copied and parodied so much. This was my first Hitchcock film I've watched, and I must say I thoroughly enjoyed it (I'm also proud to say I spotted his cameo). They say Jaws was the first blockbuster (often pejoratively), but I would think this film would've drawn the crowds. As for its low points, it is pretty plot-driven, and yet I was usually convinced that the characters really would do what they did in most of the situations.

Has anyone else watched the film? I'd love to hear people's comments.

I saw this for the first time a few months ago and I really really liked it. A friend of mine kept saying how great it was and I can't help but agree. I loved everything from the concept to the somewhat clever title. Come to think of it, I should probably grab it from netflix again.

I love that movie. I had to watch it for an assignment in screenwriting class, and I was surprised how entertained I was throughout. I'm usually weary about the classic films, since there's quite a few that I just want to sleep through. This one was very reminiscent of the Bond films. In fact, for my assignment, I had to modernize North by Northwest and I basically transformed it into a Bond with out Bond film.

By clever title i just meant that it was heading north via northwest airlines not simply the direction north by northwest. that doesnt really have much to do with anything but i enjoyed it

Yes, this is a definite classic that holds up. It has been years since I've seen it, and I've been thinking about getting it again from Netflix.

I'd recommend checking out more Hitchcock if you enjoyed this one. Rope is one of my favorite Hitchcock films. Quit reading here if you don't want to know the plot. Two students decide to murder their classmate, hide the body in their living room and throw a dinner party in the presence of the body. It's a little older than North By Northwest but it is a definite classic.

Vertigo is another one that you have to see if you are a lover of film. It is pretty dark, and very strange. It has one of the craziest, most sudden ends to a film that I've ever seen. Once you watch it, check out the Faith No More video for "Last Cup of Sorrow" which recreates the movie in 4 minutes. The video can be seen here: http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=oyBcgY0awRI
