Hell everyone, don't mind the shameless self-promotion, but I just wanted to explain that I have a new site called diggalerts.com (http://www.diggalerts.com) which I am currently beta testing. If you're interested, just do this:

1. Go to diggalerts.com (http://www.diggalerts.com) and signup.
2. Pick the digg categories you're interested in.
3. When other members of the site post a story to that category, you'll get an email.

It's that easy. You can also post stories to the diggalerts.com network. You'll see when you login.

Please use the feedback form on the site for comments/suggestions/complaints, etc..

I'll be capping enrollment at 150 until I get the bugs worked out, so if you're interested sign up soon! Thanks!

Enjoy!

BTW - Tell your friends if you like it!

So on first look, i assumed spam.. and then the first sentence clarified.. but the following information made me curious, so i signed up.

First comment: clarify in the terms of use that you will not sell or trade the email addresses of your members. Until i see that mentioned, i will use a junk-email account.

Secondly; i definitely approve of the idea, but upon signing up i thought there was more customization available for the alerts. I'm not a programmer, or web developer or anything, but if possible, you should go for something like Google Alerts (http://www.google.com/alerts) which allows you to completely customize what you recieve alerts for. Sure, i like to keep an eye on the tech stories on Digg, but if i have an alert for tech industry news submitted, i'm going to recieve an alert every 2 seconds

But again, props for creating it, and i'll keep an eye on it for revisions :)

I assure you (all of you) that we are not selling email addresses to anyone. We wouldn't need them except that you're receiving alerts by email :)

Like I said, we're in beta, so the number of alerts you'll receive will be limited at first, but be patient, as we grow, this service should be more useful.

Yes, we're adding functionality all the time. When we do, we'll letchya know about it.

Thank you for the sign up. -w00t

You DO realize that your going to end up getting a cease and desist letter from Digg for violating the digg trademark right?

Yup...we're prepared.

Remember, Digg has to enforce their trademark of the name "Digg" (otherwise they lose it, it's the law). They had to shut down digggames.com (or whatever it was) because of that. You should probably consider getting a new URL for your site.

Wow dude, not only do you steal off the ideas of digg, but you also take your logo from this idea:
http://www.alleba.com/blog/2006/09/26/photoshop-tutorial-how-to-make-a-web-20-style-logo/

Do you have any creativity in you, or do you just try to collect off of other peoples ideas like Striker?

Then why did you bother buying the domain in the first place? LOL

And how are you prepared? Do you have a lawyer or something?

I was going to post the same things as phatlip again, but I figured I'd just refresh and let him say it for me ;)

BTW... Why wouldn't I just refresh the page I'm interested in if I was curious in seeing if there was a new story? This might be useful if story submissions were days apart, but why would I want to get an email every few minutes telling me something has updated?

Maybe he's contacting Digg and working out an affiliation or terms of agreement?

Why does everyone always have to assume to worst? And crumbles, why do you always have to take a jab at striker? We all know you disagree with what he is doing, and so do a lot of other people, but that doesn't make it any less immature of you to insult him when he has nothing to do with the discussion.

I read digg, but I am not sure of the target audience here ...

Why does everyone always have to assume to worst?I assume you are asking that to the others, as I didn't mention anything about him infringing on the digg logo, even though he said: "we're prepared." Something you wouldn't say if you had an amicable agreement.

I really enjoy what Kev, Alex, Dan, Jay, Wil, Hahn, Jess, and Bert have done. When he attacks that trying to steal a buck, it pisses me off. It pisses me off even more that he treads around these forums like he belongs here.

I pretty much have a general hatred towards him. Plus, his comment he said earlier got me all fired up on him once more.

It's a shame people keep posting links and getting banned. Even I know that is a big no-no on the revision3.com forums. Let's keep the community together and follow the rules everyone.

See the irony?

It always amazes me how forums can go off-topic so quickly.

I guess posting here was a bad idea, since most of you have nothing to do aside from reading what other people type all day long. Don't you have lives? Don't you do other things than read digg? I should figure not, since all of you (with the obvious exceptions of the one of you who signed up - thanks, and the one who tried to defend the site).

As for the logo...we went with cheap/easy/identifiable...and since you pointed out how and where we got the idea, then it worked. By the way, it's a tutorial dummy - they explain HOW TO MAKE THE LOGO :) If you want to see my creativity see any of the following:

BlackBox.com (http://www.blackbox.com)
AlliedBarton.com (http://www.alliedbarton.com)
CitizensBankCo.com (http://www.citizensbankco.com/)
Hydroworx.com (http://www.hydroworx.com) (except the video which autoplays and the scrolling banner at the bottom, those were the clients additions...you can never save them from themselves)
MageePlastics.com (http://www.mageeplastics.com)

--We don't need creative, it's a utility. If design were everything, imagine how pathetic craigslist would be.

Bottom line: If you're not interested, then don't sign up, but trashing me, my site, or the notion is pointless. So enjoy yourselves at my expense... If it makes you feel like a king, then by all means, beat on me. But when you do finally realize there is life outside of the forums, call me - we'll play a round of golf, take in a movie (in the theater, like normal people do), go to a ballgame, or play a hand of cards, or something that doesn't involve pressing the refresh button and hoping someone replied to your otherwise meaningless postings :)

You're pretty defensive. You should do better than insult perspective users. You should read the threads in a forum before you go making judgments about members. Not to speak of shilling your lame "service" on it. In any case, I feel a digg submission coming on about you're apparent lack congeniality.

Let's see how your alert service handles that...

Completely understandable, but with that said, it's not as if he posts in every thread saying "F Rev3", but he did make a post in a thread about the particular dispute, which he has every right to do, just as you have every right to dispute him, in that thread, or in private, but not in every thread on this forum. All it does is pollute other threads and if he really is that much of a problem, let the staff do their job and take care of him.

DiggAlerts: Please, you're not helping yourself making posts like that. I'm about the only person trying to defend you(until you've shown that you can't be trusted), and then you go and bash people because you have been very ambiguous and defensive in your previous posts. Here's an idea, maybe you should be a little more clear and post some more info, and then the people on this site would be more than happy to help you. I know I would, but at this point, forget you and your site. And if you think, "we're prepared" holds any water, you're wrong. Digg has the trademark on their name and has defended in the past, and has every right to defend it against your site. There's nothing you can do to change that unless, as I assumed, you are smart, mature, and respectable enough to take the route of contacting them personally to work out an affiliation.

Every post he makes on this forum is a big middle finger to REV3.

but he did make a post in a thread about the particular dispute, which he has every right to doYea, however, his dispute held very little validity, as it was an argument against what he does. I was bringing that up to him in a jovial way. ;)

just as you have every right to dispute him, in that thread, or in private, but not in every thread on this forum.I was about to say that I have only done it in forums where he has opened his mouth, but you're right, I did it in here too. But come on, the comparison was truthful, and mildly humorous.

All it does is pollute other threads and if he really is that much of a problem, let the staff do their job and take care of him. *sigh* fine, you're right. But so help me if he ever tries to defend his point again, expect a serious out lash!

I guess posting here was a bad idea...Yes it was. You should just stop right there, quit, and go home.

Don't you have lives? Don't you do other things than read digg?Um, says the guy trying to get us to sign up with his service written for digg? Are you serious, man? Just go away quietly while you still have some dignity. Seriously.

...blah blah blah ... As for the logo...blah blah blah...If you want to see my creativity see any of the following... blah blah blah...Don't worry, I'm sure you're next idea will come to you soon. As soon as you see that someone else has already done it...

Yeah, agree. I'm hoping that "as it evolves" i'll be able to put something like "Nine Inch Nails" into an alert, so anything that has that specific phrase in either the title or description, i get an alert, like the way Google Alerts work.

Not trying to be a dick, but if you took two seconds to look at the site linked, the site is for Photoshop tutorials, and that page is for the tutorial on how to make that specific logo. There are no restrictions on the tutorial, so that means all content and source materials provided are fair game.

Maybe not the havn't shut down duggtrends (http://duggtrends.com/diggmirror.aspx) yet.

They don't shut sites down, what they do is send letters to the webmasters asking them to stop using any trademarked names or phrases(as seen on the bottom of digg.com), and if they aren't compliant, Digg has the right(and obligation) to seek legal action.

There's a good chance nobody in here is going to read this, but that's ok. I came here because I THOUGHT I wanted digg fanatics, but reading reply #2 to my comment told me otherwise...It was at that point I realized none of you were interested, so when I insulted you, I was no longer insulting people I wanted help from, I was insulting digg-hungry fanboys (and girls) who worship "Kev" like he's your big brother.

Fanboys make me madder than hell, and digg fanboys are getting to be the worst. If there is any question about how I feel about digg, and why someone (who does like digg - or did anyhow) might build a service outside of digg but focused (for now) on digg, consider what was added to digg during the recent update. What "features" were really added? A new stylesheet? C'mon folks...you'll discuss digg's new look at lengths, crazed because Kevin is God to you, but think about how lame it is to be a follower of a 20+ punk who sits on a couch and collects money by the fistful, all because you ultra-lame digg followers visit 3-4 hours per day. When did digg become more about digg than the news it hosts? If you still don't know how I feel, make sure to check out my recent post:

http://www.theaveragewhiteguy.com/2006/12/an-open-letter-to-kevin-rose-founder-of-diggcom/

This should be all you really need to know about me.

To the smart*ss who said he "feels a digg submission coming on"...post that to digg, fanboy.

You guys are right, I don't belong here. I belong in the overworld, where the weather patterns change, and people can actually see you. You've tried to tear me down, but if you'll look at the first sentence of my original post, it reads "shameless self-promotion" which should tell you I didn't come in here to earn your respect, or be dignified; I came in here to get you people to test my software. You made it abundantly clear that you weren't interested, yet you continued to berate and belittle me. You attacked my creativity, you tried to make me feel indignant, so I say: "Piss on all of you".
