Just wanted to hear if anybody knew if it's possible to use a 360 controller (or 360 controller copy) with the PS3?

apparently there was a way if you have linux installed, but no idea if it worked with ps3 games or what.
I'm more curious about finding a way to use a ps3/ps2 controller with the 360...I still don't move directions right.

TBH, the most comfortable was the gamecube controller, it looked wank, but the buttons were all positioned perfectly.

Seriously.
I used a PS2/PS3 controller for years, I've only had a 360 for a number of months...my hands are used to the Playstation controllers.
I'm willing to bet the majority who prefer the 360 are in a similar, though opposite, situation.

Actually that's not the case here. I bought a PS2 the day it launched. Then I played that, and after the 360 had been out for like a year, I bought one of those. And I really, very quickly, turned around. I like the 360 controller so much more, especially in FPS games.

I prefer the 360 controller for FPS. I prefer the PS2/PS3 controller for action/adventure, racing, sports games (Tony Hawk especially), and some other types of games.

I HATE 360 controllers. They're just so awkward to me, not just because I rarely use em' but just in general. Everything about the PS2/PS3 controllers just feel soooo much better to me and the analog sticks are just fine with me. Plus, it feels like you can't properly press down the buttons on a 360 controller, it's weird.

Since this has become a thread about controller preference, I'll throw in my 2 cents. I prefer the 360 controller in almost every way. The one deficiency is in the notoriously atrocious control pad. That thing is almost unusable.
I don't dislike the PS3 controller, but it feels small and less solid than the 360 controller. I prefer the analog placement on the 360 as well, though that I'm sure is a matter of familiarity since I have done the majority of my gaming on an Xbox for the last 5 years.

I used to LOVE the Playstation/2 controllers so much that when I got my original Xbox I HATED the controllers. However I have to say the 360 controller is an almost perfect controller. If they would just fix that D-pad it would be excellent. I recently found out after busting out Amplitude again that I hate the PS3 controller. It feels so cheap and uncomfortable now.

To actually answer the question - I doubt it.
However, almost any USB gamepad works in the PS3. Just grab one and plug it in. I plugged in an old Microsoft Sidewinder with just a d-pad, two trigger buttons, and four face buttons and it works.
As far as preference goes, well, it's just preference. Nobody can say the DualShock 3 is perfect, or the 360 controller is perfect, because different people will find different flaws with any controller. The only thing that could be perfect is a mind-reading controller, and those are a ways off yet.
Personally, I prefer the symmetrical layout of the analog sticks for shooters, due to staggering feeling unnatural.
Beyond that, the Xbox and 360 sticks have some weird resistance to them that I don't like whatsoever, and it makes shooters impossible for me to play. That's why I have two DualShock to Xbox adapters.
I also don't like the battery pack in the 360 controller. It's bad for my large hands - feels like a shoddy Dreamcast controller.
But that's me.

funny, this was just on my mind. After making a bunch of stuff in littlebigplanet my hands started to cramp up from holding the atrocious ps2/ps3 controller. I really wish a third party company would sell a xbox 360 styled controller for the ps3
