Well I just heard the most exciting news. My beloved Cave Story, one of the best platformers I've played in decades, is coming to Wiiware.

According to Wikipedia there will be some changes:
"including widescreen and 480p display options, and new character designs by Amaya. The game will feature new graphics and music created for the game, but players will be able to switch them for the original music and visuals."

Cave Story is a freeware PC game. If you have not played this game... oh please do. If you like/love Metroid you will like/love Cave Story.

Finally a decent traditional platform game on a console (besides megaman9)

I'm talking 8bit style platforming and graphics, the stuff we grew up on (thats assuming we're all over 20something). Cave story not only was created and developed by one guy, but he did everything to make it feel "classic". He wrote software so he could compose Chiptune style music akin to the NES ballads we knew were annoyingly awesome. The music alone instantly makes me nostalgic to the first time I played the game, and makes me feel like a kid again.

LBP is almost in its own category. In the future, things will be compared to LBP. Another "felt like a kid" instance was; the first time I saw the LBP trailer with "the Go! Team" rocking in the background... epic.

But in really we all are kids at heart, no matter how old (or young)

I'm a huge Metroid fan, so all the comparisons have definitely gotten me interested.

I'd just note that Wario Land: Shake It is at the very least a decent traditional platformer.
