For all the jabs I took at the 360 for the RRODs, disc scratching, etc.. Sincerely, from the bottom of my heart. I don't wish a dead console on anyone. Are we good?

Damn, it's too late!

Karma has ripped my ass a new one, and my PS3 disc drive has spun its last disc.

I'm pissed.

360s are cheap now

it's not too late to make the right decision.

I've considered an Arcade unit... $177.77 with Gears and another game, that's like getting the console for like $70... But I don't think that sale is still on this week. It was last week.

I don't know... I have a Wii. I guess I can try turning it on. Hopefully it still works.

That sucks. Have you checked with Sony to see what the repair policy is? They raped us with the PS1 by charging us for repairs that they weren't actually performing, but my PS2 had several problems and each time I called they ended up fixing it for free. I only had to pay shipping. At the time they weren't openly advertising these free repairs. It would be worth a call to see what they have to say.

Since it's the disc drive, does that mean you can still play the LBP beta?

This XBOX 360 disk scratching bullshit seriously pisses me off. I can get a brand new disk and within two week of playing have it being to get "This disk is unreadable errors."

I've actually made a decision to quit buying games for the 360 that are available on other consoles. Our PS3 is way under utilized.

Dude, relax. You're still under warranty so it's not THAT bad. I have no idea why you would even consider a 360 which is ALMOST guaranteed to break down.

PS3 FTW.

I guess I'm back to being PS3 Mega Fan Numero Uno?

That's not true anymore. I haven't had any breakdown issue with mine. This scratching thing kinda pisses me off, though.

Eight fucking months? EIGHT. Count them. Search Google, this isn't an isolated issue. Your PS3 hasn't died yet, so you should counting your lucky stars.

Fanboy, yes. Fan, no.

I have a choice - send it back ASAP and hope it gets back in time for Dead Space, or at least for LBP, Far Cry 2, BioShock, etc, or keep it for the remainder of the LBP beta and only play stuff stored on my hard drive.

I'd rather play the full games. I was in the middle of Chapter 4 of The Darkness when it died, so that really pisses me off. Now I have to wait for God knows how long before I can resume playing it and finish off the story.

Sony and Microsoft both should outsource their hardware manufacture to Nintendo.

For the record, my Xbox is still alive and well, and this is the first console I've ever had die on me. Even my PSone still works. My NES still works. My old-ass GameBoy still works. My Turbo Grafx-16 still works. My Dreamcast still works...

My 360 is getting that "disc is unreadable error", but my disc is in perfect condition; keeps booting me out of the middle of a game of madden and I'm always doing well when it fucks up.

Sorry to hear it... That's about the same as what happened to me, just I was playing The Darkness and jumped down a hole. I kept waiting for the loading screen, and it never showed up. After about 4 minutes I turned off the PS3 and turned it back on, anxious to resume my quest for revenge for Jenny's murder. And then the disc doesn't load at all anymore. No disc loads.

I picked up a Wii game to tide me over.

My PS1 had the FMV skipping problem which could be fixed by turning it upside down, then when that stopped working putting it sideways, then when that stopped working tilting it somewhere in between. I paid Sony something like $130 to fix that and a faulty A/V connection and I got my console back in the exact same condition. I sent it in again only paying for shipping and again it was returned the same way. Much later I got contacted for a class action lawsuit where I was given a check for $25 to "make up for my troubles".

My PS2 stopped reading CDs (or maybe it was DVDs) and they repaired it for free (not counting my shipping). Later when I found out how easy it was to fix I did the repair myself twice before trading the machine away (just got another PS2).

My original Xbox had the DVD player capabilities semi-break so that everything I watched would constantly drop a shitload of frames. I had other DVD players so I never got that one fixed.

I'm on my 4th 360, with 2 RROD problems and one hardware failure that wasn't RROD.

I've never had a Nintendo or Sega system break on me, although my Wii is getting damn close. It often doesn't load the game without having to restart the machine several times, and I've got some kind of infinite loop of messages where the same messages keep getting delivered over and over until they completely fill the screen, even with the Wii 24 connect turned off.

I'm a sucker. Any of them break and I'll either get them repaired for free when possible or buy a whole new console. I would have left the Wii out of that repurchase scenario before I found out Punch Out is definitely coming.

Apparently, this error is sometimes caused by corrupt save files. The XBOX 360 FAQ indicates about 25% of the time this was the problem.

The fix is to copy all the Madden save games to a memory module and erase your save games from the HDD.

I fear the day that any of my consoles dies in some way. I've had problems with past Playstation systems before so I know the PS3 was bound to have something. With my PS1, when it was deep in it's life, I had to do the tilting thing that stubadub was talking about, which frustrated the hell out of me that I almost broke it. The fat PS2 stopped reading colored discs (racist!), so no blue or gold bottom DVDs worked. Sent it in, got it back fixed and eventually the problem was happening again so I learned how to fix it myself, but I eventually overdid it and killed the system, so PS2 slim it was. That was a beauty though, never had a problem with that system. And then there's my PSP, whose screen is so easily damagable that I've broken 2 since I bought it back in Feburary. Okay, that's mostly due to me being careless, but nonetheless!

So far so good with my PS3, but I fear the day. Of course, I'm more worried about my 360 and the RROD. I made sure that I got the HDMI with that Falcon (or which ever it is) chip to prevent over heating.

Then, there's the Wii, which I don't ever worry about it breaking since I never turn it on. (rim shot). But no, it's solid hardware...for now.

I feel ya dude. I posted on here a couple of months ago about my PS3 having the exact same problem. I posted that out of about the 5 people I know with PS3's, only one person hasn't had this problem. We all bought them at different times from different places. This problem is bigger than some people would have you think. I'm sure you did what I did and did a quick search.

I've had my 360 RROD once and was replaced in 10 days. I had my PS3 Bluray die and was replaced in 6 weeks. My Wii is on it's way out and has trouble reading discs. I don't smoke and I take good care of my consoles. I think it's just a fact that as these devices get more and more complex your going to start seeing more issues. There are so many variables. The only thing I will mention here, is that at least my 360 has 3 years on it's RROD, my PS3 Bluray died 1 month out from the end of it's 12 month warranty. The more I hear this problem, the more I think Sony should do the right thing and extend the warranty for this issue. You can throw all the numbers at me you want, it won't make me any less screwed if my bluray dies outside the year.

I've had a 360 since launch and have never had it scratch a disk. I did however have my first one die, it would freeze up 2 seconds into booting up, but no Red Ring.

I also had that problem with the PSX, sent it in THREE times until I finally gave up and bought another one.

Sorry to hear that the PS3 went tits up, but I'm sure you'll be able to find a few titles on Wii to tide you over until it's repaired or you replace it.

I think my only console to really have a major error was the 360 when it 3 Ringed me. I sent it in and got it back 3 weeks later at no cost.

I've had a Sega Genesis where the power button wouldn't stay on so I MacGuyvered a Genesis box between the cabinet and the power button to keep it on. One day it just started working fine and I still own it.

I've got all my systems current gen and back to original NES all seem to work decently. Game cartridges on my NES might be another matter. Only other system that had a problem was I sold & shipped my friend my Gamecube after I got my Wii. I guess it didn't work properly, but he mailed it to Nintendo and they repaired it. I thought it was really cool that they did it for free without asking for proof of ownership or anything.

My Wii struggles a bit with Smash Bros. (I think it's halfway between those Wiis that failed when they couldn't read the dual-layer discs and working perfectly) but otherwise it's fine.

That being said, two of my Wiimotes aren't working for some reason... I changed batteries and they still won't flash blue. I really should investigate that a bit further.

I would send it back asap, if you wait you will most likely regret it when looking at the titles that is out very soon.

LBP beta will be over soon anyway. :)

Saw this on UK playstation site which is kinda cool:

I can't send it back until I get their stupid box from the Purolator delivery guy... So whenever that arrives, it's going back same-day.

Don't worry, you will know of my experience with Sony's support.

Already they're off to a bad start. When I asked how long it would take, if I'd have it back in time for release of LittleBigPlanet (you know, Sony's biggest game this year?), the person asked me what LittleBigPlanet was.

Same here. My 360 is two years old now and I've never had a problem with it, and neither has anyone close to me. If I hadn't seen the red rings at store-displays I would be thinking the whole internet was just trolling me.

Not really surprised as people in support often don't know or care much about the products.

You should be on LBP before me anyway as EU release 3 days after
