I was so in love with Rudy Huxtable when I was young.
Have you guys not seen Psych? It airs on USA right now and was on network TV during the strike.
It sounds like the Mentalist is just Psych but without the fun and humour.

I am in total agreement with you Alex about Heroes. Why the heck did they bring back Ali Larter? And the speed girl is REALLY annoying. Also, it's irritating to watch them jump back and forth in time. If the show wants to succeed, they really need to kill off those characters that can do that. Having the ability to see the future is fine. But to be going from one time to another and altering events is just assinine.

Similar...though The Mentalist used to play a tv psychic, whereas Psych got cornered into pretending to be one for the police.
I mentioned the same thing when I first heard of the idea (particularly when someone mentioned the pretending to be psychic thing)...think of it as Psych in 10 years, maybe.

I truly think one of the main reasons Heroes is sucking is because they got a budget. In the first season the had a considerably smaller budget and it made them have to focus their story lines. I even remember one of the creators saying they liked the smaller budget because it caused them to focus on story and character development rather the everyone running around with super powers. Anyway I'm done with Heroes, my Mondays are all about Prison Break. Which in my opinion is really starting to get good again, back to the kinda master planning the the first season way about.
As to the best tv theme song, my favorite, modern one anyway, is Firefly. The theme song, written by Whedon, perfectly capture the mood and atmosphere of the show, the crew, and most of all the attitude of the character Mel, and why he is out in space to begin with.
Any who loved the episode, opening was great, and I'm really looking forward to the rest of the TV reviews.

I think they were spot on with "Heros." There are too many characters and the cast is not an ensemble. Not only are there too many characters, there are several version of some of them. The show is simply not focused.

So how does the scoring on the summer movie challenge work? 10 points for right movie right slot, 7 for 1 slot off, 5 for 2 slots off, 3 for just on the list and 1 for dark horse? What's a dark horse? And is that 3 points in addition to any points for getting it near the right slot?

I'm gonna have to disagree with the guys about Nick and Norah's. It was alright at best and most of my friends surprisingly didn't like it any more than I did. We are all around the age of the characters in the movie too.
Charlie Bartlett is the John Hughes movie for this generation. It really is like a day where Ferris Bueller went to school.

I enjoy Heroes. There, I said it. Heroes feels like a love letter written to the comic nerd in me. More specifically, written to the comic nerd who was a fan before Hollywood became a comics fan. I wish I could put into words exactly why I enjoy the show, but I'm no critic; I simply know what I love.
I'll be sad when Hollywood's love affair with comics ends. But then, there's always, you know, comics. :)

Great intro guys. It was kind of a downer that 'Blindness' wasn't more in the realms of 'Children of Men'. Regarding 'Brothers in Arms : Hell's Highway', I agree with Alex and don't like the squad based gameplay. Other reviews are saying that to understand the story you need to have played the previous two episodes, so that may be why it is confusing for you guys. Regarding TV shows, I was surprised that you didn't revisit 'Fringe'. Maybe next week. I think that 'Fringe' will eventually develop some traction as time goes by.
Alex and Dan - you should have done a better job cleaning Jeff's car. But then again Jeff was being pretty cocky to you guys. I guess all is fair in love and war.
You guys are all awesome but here's where I think your strengths are. Dan is definitely the movie guy. He has the best sense of screenwriting and acting. Jeff, you offer the best knowledge of video games. I love how you get so excited about them, though I bought 'Spore' after you talked it up, and then you gave it a shitty review. Alex, I really feel you have the mojo for reviewing TV series. It is definitely your strength and really like your perspective of things. Anyways, I love the job you all do (including Steve). I thought I would just offer my 2 cents. Keep up the great work!

Okay, Dan you are adorable. As if the opening was precious, the whole washing the car wanting comments on the forums was just too adorable. That said, I was a little disappointed that we didn't get another Jeff and the sponge shot. I am pretty positive I am not the only chick thinking that when it was said he won.
Also, you had to bring up Pokemon? I am surrounded by binders and boxes of Pokemon cards, spend my Tuesday nights sitting at a mall so Anakin can "battle" for two hours, drive around Northern Ohio for Competitions, wake up to those annoying voices on the cartoon every weekend, have to go and put down reserves for every bloody new Pokemon game, and now, (I wish I was joking) I am suppose to make a Charizard costume (I am so hoping he changes his mind) for Halloween. As if not enough money is being sucked out of my purse as if it was Pokeblocks being gobbled by a Munchlax, the very idea of Pokemon Snap on the new DS, even though it was just Jeff's idea, made Anakin start the begging.
Pokemon is going to bankrupt me and make me a bag lady with very pretty shoes.

I have a ton of ghost/scary stories. Most though aren't scary at the time scary, but after the fact scary. I get scared more often at movies and tv than I have been in real life. Raised Catholic, ghosts are just part of life so they really aren't scary. So in relation to movies, this one is my favorite, though I am not sure what that says about me as a mom.
So my ex and I wanted to go see Evolution (Moore/Duchovny). We couldn't find a babysitter and he firmly thought that Anakin was old enough to handle it. We had taken him to see X-Men and he had seemed fine with it. Also, we watched so much Discovery channel with animals, both real and CGI, eating each other, it seemed logical.
Well, we get to the scene were the guy is on the golf course, setting up a blanket and a bottle of wine near the water hazard. Then the creature pops up and eats him. Anakin screamed so loud that there were secondary screams from the shock of his screams.
I felt so guilty for years. But to hear people actually get scared because he screamed and not because of the movie we were collectively watching was funny.
I am so going to hell.

Great show!
Definitely agree with the point about Blindness being an absolutely crap movie. I felt that it was just a sequence of the most visually disturbing parts of the book, without the context. It's worth reading the book mainly because Saramago argues precisely the opposite to what was said in the show about "standing up and saying "no"'. There are many instances (ie genocides, dictatorships) in history that mimick the book/movie, where a majority of the people either didn't stand up for themselves, or they DID and then were betrayed or villified by the very people they were trying to protect.
Anyways, my .02$ ... thanks for the awesome show!

...And hes back!
Glad to be back after a week of odd occurances here guys, but it isn't as though I'd ever miss a show. It was a damn-good week again as always, and of course, I have a few comments...
RE: Nick and Norah
I've heard from a lot of my friends that it is "terrible," which killed my need to see it immediately, but if it is as good as you say it is, hopefully I can convince one of my lady friends to go. I'm not sure if anything can replace Garden State as my post-modern standard for relationshipy movies, but nevertheless, I'll give this one a shot.
RE: TV
So far, I haven't found much to jump on. Fringe has been the only new show I've really enjoyed a lot (I'd love to hear the thoughts on the newer episodes), and I have high hopes for Kath and Kim, but I'll be going back to my stand-by shows like House and 30 Rock as always.
BTW:
Can we talk about Star Wars: Clone Wars too?
RE: Best Theme Song (TV)
The two I find myself singing most often are Full House and Family Matters, and oddly enough I Love Lucy. Maybe thats because I watched them so much, but Lucy, I don't have an explanation for...

Re: Heroes
I'm enjoying the new season of Heroes more than Season 2 so far. Is it perfect? Far from it. I agree with Jeff that a core problem for the show is that writers fell in love with the cast; and have taken some (many) characters in unlikely directions, seemingly for the sake of giving them something to do. It might have been better to kill off a significant portion of the cast after Season 1 (and certainly after Season 2).
However, we are where we are. Like Dan, I've found some positives in the first few episodes (Episodes 2 and 3 had me quite gripped). I hope that people like Jeff (as he said, the target audience) will stick with the show, and give constructive feedback to the producers. If the core audience just dismisses it - "I'm so over this show" - then what we'll get is rubbish like "Dancing With The Stars" on every channel, 24/7. Much as I don't really *want* to see Sylar making waffles, I'd far rather be watching that than a bunch of Z-listers that can't dance, trying to dance...

Hey all. Fantastic episode. It was mentioned earlier for a possible intro but the original M.A.S.H. theme song "Suicide is Painless" is an all time classic and My absolute favorite. I still see the helicopters coming around the hill every time I hear it. Here's a few more for thought:

I agree that there suddenly seems to be a lot of new characters with powers, but not when compared to the world population. That's what they are drawing from. We have yet to see the "Brazilian", "Russian", "Chinese", etc, etc heroes. Many characters with powers have already died or been killed by Sylar/Gabriel. They are still pairing up the "good guys" with their "arch nemesis's" and trying to keep us guessing as to which is which. I look forward to how each inter-reacts, but the storylines will eventually have to come together for me to be happy.
More Blessings and Peace

Not really. We know that Nicky/Jessica and now her sister Tracy (played by Ali Larter) were genetically engineered to have powers.

Good ep. The TV section was especially interesting this week. I know it was mentioned before, but when I first saw a promo for The Mentalist I totally thought of Psych. I don't have cable, but I have seen a handful of episodes and really like that show. I much prefer the comedy approach than the drama/procedural approach.
The animated HBO show doesn't really interest me that much. I've only seen the clip provided by this episode, but the animation there made Dr. Katz look like a freaken Miyazaki film. I'm not a big fan of purposefully bad animation with a few exceptions. I thought it worked well for Home Movies for example. But that was a style choice, and the HBO show just looked like it was drawn poorly.
Punch-Out!! for Wii gets me excited. Since it's a Nintendo property, I doubt it'll have anything but motion controls. But Mario Super Sluggers is an example of the opposite. Plus looking at what was shown, it looks like it could be pulled off with old fashioned controls. So maybe it'll have an option for both. Either way I don't think there is any doubt that it will have motion controls. Wii Sports Boxing was kinda fun, but nowhere near as accurate as I would've liked. Maybe Wii Motion Plus will help for Punch-Out!!? Or maybe they just need to let you use two wiimotes?

My friends and I agree fully with comments on heroes. What ever happened to the mysterious person that saved sylar and why have they not brought that back up? What happened to the shadowy person from the first episode that had all the same powers as sylar and peter combined and was killing people on TOP of sylar?
Is it just me or do the writers not remember what they wrote? The alternate future thing has been done...move on already.

Not sure if this has been asked, but Dan my friend, have you ever seen the short version of Raising Victor Vargas, Five Feet High and Rising? Hey Guys great show. I agree with Jeff about heroes. What the hell is happening with that show. How many time travel episodes can you have before it just gets dumb and speaking of dumb are they so in love with Ali larter that they made three copies of her. Get rid of skylar already and cut the cast down to size or this show is not going to last much longer.

I agree, that show had so much potential it's just so sad see it go this way. Maybe they could redeem themselves by having an insane showdown where almost everyone dies, you know, the showdown we were supposed to have by the end of the first season. Could it pull off a "Lost" and come back?

Guys, I rarely completely disagree with all three of you, but I totally disagree about your take on Heroes. I think this season has been great! I wanted to have a show with people doing extraordinary things and a bit of mystery to try and solve. The tie-in with the concept of "specials" making mistakes in the past and having to try to correct those mistakes from last season (though season 2 was just boring) has been right-on.
I agree you have to suspend some belief for the show as far as how the characters act, but hey, it's a show about people with powers; exactly how true-to-life should it be anyway!

Ok everyone, I'm really sorry about the necropost here; I normally don't do this kind of thing, but I really didn't want to make a new thread just for this one point.
I'm sitting here having just finished watching this episode (instead of learning motion graphics) and Jeff was talking about the Battlestar Galactica intro and how it shows scenes from the current episode in the intro sequence. I don't think anyone has mentioned it, but they did something very similar for Space: 1999 (with Martin Landau), which I think are even more revealing, but neither spoil the episode I think.
