Root beer? Boooooo.
Sorry, not a fan of root beer. I guess that blows any chance I have for citizenship down the track.

A&W, plain and simple. I don't ever really drink root beer, but that is the best I've tried.

Have any of you tried a & w right from the keg?
Most amazing I've had.

IBC is what I get when I don't get just normal brands. It's richer than those, sweeter, but not cloyingly so. I wanna try others, but hard to find.

mug is definitely near the top of my list...sooo good
i also had 365 brand root beer from whole foods once (it's sweetened with cane sugar, not HFCS) and it was just as good, if not better

Favorite 3 are Jones, Stewart's (in a bottle is good but even better at their restaurant), and Barq's for the 12-pack of cans.

EDIT: Added links, and apparently there is only one Stewart's restaurant. But it's damn good.

My personal favorite is Henry Weinhard's root beer. It's delicious stuff but you can only find it on the west coast. The company also makes normal beer which I've never tried(they don't sell it around southern California where I live) but the root beer is amazing. It's super rich and creamy with just a little spice to it. It's actually so rich that when you take a sip you have to be really careful or it will start foaming up, so it's best to have it when it's really cold. They also make a really good vanilla cream soda that I love but for a lot of people it's a love/hate sort of deal because it's a lot different than other vanilla cream sodas. The orange cream soda is also amazing and really is the soda embodiment of a creamsicle. So if you live on the west coast I would really recommend picking up a six pack of the root beer. They're pretty easy to find in most grocery stores and Bevmo carries them as well.

To elaborate, I will drink any old root beer, but the smooth, clean taste of cream soda is much more appealing to me. Jones cream soda is probably my favorite but a 12 pack of A&W will do too.

I registered her just for this thread.
I highly recommend Sprecher's Root Beer, it is fire brewed with honey to give it a smooth, rich flavor that is second to none. I also highly recommend their Cream Soda, it is brewed with pure Wisconsin honey and pure vanilla, it is the creamiest Cream Soda I have ever tasted. And while you're at it, try their Puma Kola, Ginger Ale and Ravin' Red, they're extremely delicious sodas that you just have to try. Check out Sprecher here: http://www.sprecherbrewery.com/soda.php
Another root beer that is awesome is Point Premium Root Beer. While in Milwaukee a couple weeks ago I sampled the brew, and it is another delicious beverage, those guys in Milwaukee know exactly what they're doing when they make sodas. I haven't had any of their other sodas yet though. Check it out here: http://www.pointbeer.com/root_beer.php
Other brands that are delicious that I can't find webpages for are Sioux City (I recommend the root beer, cream soda, birch beer, and sasparilla), Hank's, and Natural Brew, you ca'n't go wrong with any of them.

I've had the Sprecher's orange cream (I didn't know the brewery until I checked the website and saw the familiar label) but I haven't had any of their other stuff, so I'll have to check it out. The orange cream is REALLY smooth. It's a bit too sweet in my opinion, but I guess that's why it's called the orange dream. I really have to go out and drink more root beers. The Sioux City lineup is nice mostly because they have the unusual stuff like Sasparilla, but I don't think any of their drinks really stand out in an amazing way.

Hey, thanks for the kind words. Anyway, I went to my local Bevmo today to see if I could find the Sprecher's root beer but they only have the orange cream unfortunately. I decided not to go home empty handed so I decided to try the Waialua Vanila Cream soda (along with some scotch), mainly just because it has a hula dancer on it so I figure it has to be good. Turns out the advertising was no lie. It was really good and really smooth. It was probably high in the spectrum of creaminess for cream sodas so that was a plus too. I also got the perfect chill where just a few ice crystals started to form on the inside of the bottle when I took it out of the freezer, so that was good. It looks like the company is actually based out of Hawaii (http://www.waialuasodaworks.com/) and has some other interesting flavors, but that was the only one I saw. I also picked up a Sioux City organge cream, so I'll be trying that out tomorrow.

Wish we could still get root beer in UK. You can buy A&W for about £2 a can online, but I haven't seen it since about the mid 80's when McDonald's stopped selling it.

Wow, that is a shame. That really sucks, but it reminded me of something I recently had from England that I actually can't find in the states. It's "cordial" ginger beer. Basically it was ginger beer syrup that you mix with club soda. The stuff I got was really strong but was pretty good. Great for clearing out your sinuses. Unfortunately, now that it's all gone, I can't find it in the U.S. anywhere. Have you have tried that stuff?

I don't drink a lot of soda but my top root beers would have to be Barq's and A&W. Haven't really tried many other ones.
