Anyone have any experience exchanging a WD mybook or other product? My drive is completely shot, warranty is still in effect, but I opened the plastic casing. Will this even matter ever matter since I put it back together.

If your warranty says it will be voided if you open the case, or if you broke a seal or sticker that says "warrant void if seal broken" then you voided the warranty and you probably can't exchange it. Otherwise, no harm in trying to get it replaced. Where'd you buy it from, and how long ago?
If you're talking about a 3 year hard drive warranty with WD rather than the 30 or 60 day warranty on the drive enclosure, you'd have to open the case to get a look at the drive serial number anyway. I exchanged a seagate drive once, it was very easy. I just had to enter the serial number on their website and they walked me through the exchange process. Hopefully WD is similar.

yeah. its not like i didnt put it back together and there NO stickers that say open this and your voiding your warranty and little plastic clips you just undo. theres really no reason why they shouldnt replace it imo. the drives are shit btw. never by cheap TB mybooks
