ANCHORAGE, Alaska (CNN) -- Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin abused her power as Alaska's governor by trying to get her ex-brother-in-law fired from the state police, a state investigator's report concluded Friday.
Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is under investigation for the firing of her public safety commissioner.

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is under investigation for the firing of her public safety commissioner.

"Gov. Palin knowingly permitted a situation to continue where impermissible pressure was placed on several subordinates in order to advance a personal agenda," the report states.Link (http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/10/10/palin.investigation/index.html)

so what do you think? will mccain drop palin? can he afford to?

Embarrassing.

Can McCain afford to dump her? No - it would hurt him too much to do that and announce a new VP running mate.
Can McCain afford to keep her? No - but the damage is already done.

BUT, in the end she did nothing illegal, just abused her power. For a couple running on a ticket of changing washington ... they have just proven that Palin really is ready for Washington.

when your whole campaign is built on being a maverick and fighting corruption it is, in my opinion a pretty big deal.

from the way i understand it ( and i could be wrong this is breaking as we speak) she didn't break the law by firing the guy, but she did break the law for the reason she fired the guy.

whether anything happens to that?

I also love her "I was a business owner claims" as well.

Well, not quite as successful as some might imagine (http://voices.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2008/09/02/palin_scrubbing_car_wash.html) ...

A Feb. 11, 2007 letter to the governor's business partner advises that the car wash had "not filed its biennial report and/or paid its biennial fees," which were more than a year overdue.

The warning letter was written on state letterhead, which carried Palin's name at the top, next to the state seal.

On April 3, 2007, the state went further and issued a "certificate of involuntary dissolution" because of the car wash's failure to file its report and pay state licensing fees.

Love the part in yellow :)

Alaska Governor Sarah Palin said Saturday that the report actually cleared her of any "legal wrongdoing or unethical activity."

In a brief conference call with press reported by the Anchorage Daily News, Palin said, "Iím very, very pleased to be cleared of any legal wrongdoing Ö any hint of any kind of unethical activity there. Very pleased to be cleared of any of that."

Palin said that her husband Todd was justified in complaining about Trooper Wooten (which the report finds he did for months on end), and said there was "nothing to apologize [for] there with Toddís actions, and again very pleased to be cleared of any legal wrongdoing."

When reminded that the report's first finding was that she had broken the state's ethics law in pressuring for Wooten's dismissal, Palin responded......"So no, not having done anything wrong, and again very much appreciating being cleared of any legal wrongdoing or unethical activity at all."LINK (http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/10/12/politics/main4516113.shtml)

I think she was tapping her heals together as she said it. She's banking on people [i]not[/u] reading it themselves. That way they can blame any sense that the report actually explicitly finds that she violated a specific ethics statute on the liberal media. ...Claim victory then move on.

The text of the reported was quite unambiguous about that fact she did break the law. It just didn't rise to the level of criminality. I suppose they could still censure her some how. But, I bet they had a deal to let the matter drop in exchange for a unanimous vote.

The technology(though advanced but isn't efficient in memory) used to build her only allows one command to be used at a time. So she can only say one thing over and over. :D
