I've always been a big fan of AnalogX's applications (http://www.analogx.com/), especially NetStat, MaxMem and CacheBooster. It's also home to the old, old, old The Screensavers screensaver which always brings a tear to my eye. TuneXP (http://www.driverheaven.net/dforce/showdoc.php?doc=txp_about) is also great, though I think its a tad over 1MB in size if memory serves.

"PINs (http://www.mirekw.com/winfreeware/pins.html) is a free feature-rich Windows program for safe and comfortable storing of any secure information like passwords, accounts, PINs etc. PINs uses a secure 448 bit Blowfish algorithm to ensure the data are not crackable. The password used for securing access to stored data is not saved anywhere.

PINs does not require installation and does not need any special dlls, drivers or system files which can mess up your system. This means that PINs can run directly from floppy - including data files - without installing anything. This is extremely useful if you wish to easily access your data on other computers as well."

Again, ADD SciTE (http://www.scintilla.org/SciTE.html)

"SciTE is a SCIntilla based Text Editor. Originally built to demonstrate Scintilla, it has grown to be a generally useful editor with facilities for building and running programs. It is best used for jobs with simple configurations - I use it for building test and demonstration programs as well as SciTE and Scintilla, themselves: http://www.scintilla.org/SciTE.html"

Hey, in the description of DesktopListView it sounds like all it does it make a text file or something with a list of what on the desktop, this is what it actually does:

Anyone here heard of Netvue Image Finder?
It's under 2MB, free, and it's REALLY nice for finding images off the net. I believe it uses the google image search, but it does a better job than Google Ripper, because it shows you a slideshow as it's searching for images under your keywords and also lets you save em all in a click of a single button! I've been using it for 4 days now and I'm impressed! Best damn image finder software I've seen in years. All the others had problems or cost too much money and wern't worth it, but this one..it's small and it's simple, and I like it very much.

http://www.shareapic.net/preview2/004875519.jpg (http://www.shareapic.net/content.php?id=4875519&owner=Wolfmight)
yea, I'm naughty.

so anyways, as you can see, this program requires no hassle, no ads, no spyware, or any kind of computer expertise. You search, you sit back and watch the show, and then you save em all. couldn't ask for more.
It works off .Net 1.0 and 1.1 (either one will do), so make sure you have that installed first. Other than that, this is a piece of cake.

It doesn't save images off a specific site, but it's great for finding random photos all over the net in lightning fast speeds. Gives more results than GoogleRipper too.

Forgot about all the freeware at grc.com. Steve Gibson really likes to write small effective programs. I just set up Wizmo with Speedfan (speedfan of course not written by Gibson). When Speedfan detects my system is getting too hot it'll execute a Wizmo command to shut everything down. I've run into some overheating issues with a new game so this should come in handy. Now I won't have to worry about the system doing that emergency power shut off; it's been screwing with my keyboard and it can't be good for things.

Speedfan + Wizmo is putting a bandaid on a deeper problem.

Is this your laptop shutting down? Then ...
1) check that the vents are clear when you are playing, ie - dont play for long periods with the computer on your lap or on a cushion/pillow/bedspread/etc.
2) look into a laptop cooler pad (http://www.google.com/products?hl=en&client=safari&rls=en&resnum=0&q=laptop+cooler&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=cHmzS4udFoTeNb7LgIQE&sa=X&oi=product_result_group&ct=title&resnum=1&ved=0CCkQrQQwAA).

If its a desktop, then make sure that the internals have plenty of air circulation, and are vented properly. Make sure that the heatsinks (CPU and GPU) are properly seated (I keep saying this - get some decent thermal paste).

Yeah it's a laptop (Dell studio 1555), but it's only heating up a ton on one game I play so I figure speedfan/wizmo combo set to shut things down well below the 105C cpu max temp and 70C HDD max temp will do the trick. 80C and 58C respectively. It's a nice safety net anyway. I do indeed have a laptop cooling pad, most importantly to keep my lap cool (might want children eventually). The laptop is pretty new, it'll turn a year old in late May. I figure I'll open it up and clean out the dust over the summer. My fan works fine even though it isn't up to the challenge the game provides, I make sure the vents are clear when I play. It's sitting on a cooling pad anyway so they're kinda hard to block. When I dust things over the summer I'll make sure everything looks good.

And then I wasn't really using Wizmo at all so it's nice to finally put it to work. I like what I got and I think it'll do just fine.
