The new Star Trek Movie poster will be given away at Comic Con, but it is already online. At the Con they will be handing out one to fans and it will only one of the four sections, if you get all for it creates one giant poster.
The poster features Chris Pine as Kirk, Heroes' Zachary Quinto as Mr. Spock, Zoe Saldana as Uhura, and Eric Bana as the villain Romulan Nero.

I don't know. It looks very interesting, but almost surreal, like it's not really "Star Trek", or it's a bunch of good-looking 90210 cast-offs playing "Star Trek". It almost reminds me of that Austin Powers "movie" from Austin Powers 3, with Tom Cruise as Austin: it's a little off, a little too "movie star". Or, you know, like the "movie" version of Pee Wee's big adventure at the end of "Pee Wee's Big Adventure". Like, "aren't these people to 'good looking' to play these parts?"
That said, the only "Trek" I really like is "Next Generation", but I'm still certainly looking forward to checking this out. At the end of the day, assuming the script is passable and presumably saying the effects will be top-notch, my instinct is that it will all rest on Chris Pine's performance as Kirk.

They are pretty, but there's some real talent in this lineup too. Anton Yelchin, the kid playing Chekov, is awesome. He was the title character in Charlie Bartlett and held his own against Robert Downey Jr. I was really impressed with his performance.
He was also great in Huff

Something tells me this movie isn't going to sink or swim on the merits of the dude playing Chekhov... but I get the point. Honestly, I'm not familiar with the resumes of any of the cast, really, and they may all be great. I'm just giving my reaction to those new images, and though they certainly look interesting and slickly produced, they seem maybe just a little... inauthentic. I'll be very interested to see the finished product, because usually I like re-imaginings, but for this to succeed I think it still needs to "feel" like "Star Trek", and I think more than anything that rests on the shoulders of Chris Vine. (That's the guy playing Kirk, right?)

I agree. Star Trek (at least TOS) wasn't really about spaceships and aliens (who always looked like humans with bumpy heads)...there were slightly deeper themes. A reboot/re-imagining is fine as long as they at least pay attention to those themes.

Humans with bumpy heads... too true, too true.
Yeah, I think the original series had a larger reason for existence than just "flying around the galaxy". It was campy, yes, but in the style of all truly great sci-fi it was trying to say something important or interesting about our society, dressed up in the trappings of this sort of cheesy sci-fi series. That part of the "Trek" mission got diluted in each subsequent series, I think. TNG did it sometimes, and some of the war/military stuff in DS9 resonated, but maybe that's it. Again, I'm just a casual fan of the franchise (TNG is my favorite iteration), so I can't sit here and cite episode to episode what themes the various "Trek" incarnations explored.

That last pic is the best I've seen yet of the new Kirk. I'm with Race, I think this movie basically lives and dies on Chris Vine's (?) ability to play a believable Kirk. He just looks so much like an Abercrombie & Fitch pretty boy, that he's got a lot of work to do in my mind. He just looks unrealistically young to have been put in charge of an inter-stellar quasi-militaristic spaceship.

I think that Shatner had the same Abercrombie look to him in the original series. Of course that look had yet to be defined, and it is a little different today than it was then, but he essentially had the same thing going on. He might have technically been a bit older, but if you look back to the first season of Star Trek everyone looked on the young side. Especially when compared to Picard at the beginning of the Next Generation series.
Either way, I think you are right in that it has to be a believable Kirk, no matter the circumstances.

If he's got the right attitude and cockiness, he could be fifteen and it wouldn't matter. Kirk is Kirk. It takes a special kind of man to fill that girdle.
I will wait to pass judgement until I see it, which I surely will. Here's hoping that Chris Vine can pull off the arrogantly charming SOB we all know and love.

You know, Hugh Jackman looked like a massive tool in the early promo shots for X-Men, and most would agree that turned out okay.
And I think it's just fine to say that you don't know much about "Star Trek" but will still check out the movie. In fact, more than anyone, you're the guy that the producers are desperately hoping to draw to the flick. So they'd be thrilled to hear you say it.

I shudder to think of those Star Trek cruises becoming mainstream. Something about that doesn't seem right. Then again, something about them even existing at all doesn't seem quite right either. It is not really about people sharing a common ground on vacation, but more about the Kiss-esque squeezing every last drop of money out of the fans. Strange.

It's the double-edged sword that producers of anything "Star Trek" deal with: they need to appeal to their hardcore "repeat-view" fans, but they desperately want to disassociate themselves from the stigma attached to those fans that the rest of their desired audience wants to keep away from. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
This one looks like it has a shot. The trailer does NOT make you think "Star Trek"... and then the retro "Star Trek" logo appears along with a few low-key bars of familiar music. They may get to live in both worlds with this one.
