Several years ago I purchased a Sharp 27SF56B (http://www.sharpusa.com/products/ModelLanding/0,1058,1652,00.html#) television. It works great and is the perfect size for the living room in my small apartment. I've never had a single problem with it until about a month ago. The TV will randomly switch between INPUT2 and the previous channel I was watching. At first I thought it was a problem with the remote. I took out the batteries and covered the remote sensor with a thick book and it still switched. There is no button on the remote that would switch the channel directly to INPUT2. However, there is an auto switch to the input when you plug something into that specific input. I unplugged all my inputs and it still switched.

At this point I thought that it might be some internal problem with the television, that's when I noticed a pattern to the "random" switching. On weekdays it only happens in the morning between 7 and 8AM and then starts back up around 3PM and continues off and on until about midnight, anytime on weekends. Most of the switching occurs around the half hour (3, 3:30, 4, 4:30, etc.) when you would normally switch between programs.

There must be someone else in my apartment complex that has a remote so powerful that it controls my television as well. Does that sound right? Is there a way to make this stop without surrounding my television with copper mesh? Its supper annoying and I'm tired of watching tv with my finger on the "previous" button. Its like constantly fighting with a child that also has a remote to my TV.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

It sounds like an internal problem. A quick google search indicates that you're not alone...

That also confirms that it is not some other signal in your house, unless that particular model is extremely sensitive to a very common house hold appliance, but I doubt it. See if it is indeed running on a pattern, and not a coincidence, by changing the TV's internal clock.

I guess I was so convinced that it was an outside issue that I didn't even check the tv's settings. I went to change the internal clock, which I didn't find, but I did stumble upon a couple default settings in the setup menu ("auto input" and "Universal plus") set to input 2.

I turned both of these to off. Hopefully this works. Definitely a facepalm moment. Thanks so much!

You know that's often how these types of problems get resolved ;) Those settings sound like they should do the trick.
