Anyone else really upset that the 13" Aluminum MacBook doesn't have Firewire anymore? Yes I hate the glass/gloss screen, but I absolutely need the firewire. All the digital camera backs I work with are firewire based. And before anyone says "get a PC", many camera companies don't have software for Windows or Linux (Hasselblad Phocus and Sinar CaptureShop/Exposure, Leaf updates LeafCapture half as often for PC than they do for Mac)
A $700 premium per laptop just for firewire adds up. I'm certain some people in the video industry are similarly miffed, though I would guess many could use the higher processing power of the MBP anyway.

Yea, I gotta have firewire...so this is a deal breaker for me too...don't think apple was thinking on that point.
I also noticed the wrong credits...oops.

Just a not on the memory cards. Most newer digital cameras can write to the buffer and dump the info to the card at the same time.
Also http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/multi_page.asp?cid=6007 has one of the best round ups of memory cards around.

Yes, but the buffer has to be dumped faster than it fills up. If you have a bottleneck with a slow card, and keep shooting like crazy, you do hit a point where you filled the buffer and can only shoot as fast as the buffer is emptied. So a faster card may add a few more shots to your continuous bursts. And video still needs high write speeds, otherwise you're limited to clips no longer than 30 seconds or so.

Doesn't everyone see? The editing team put this in as the blooper reel for the show.

How could you guys not stick up for yourselves. I used to work at BestBuy and $300 is a joke. It takes like twenty minutes. Grab yourself a copy of HD Basics and save $275. Those people who sent in the e-mails have just succumbed to the intense corporate agenda.

Glad that you got the Android phone on the show Roger. Thanks. The phone looks like it would be fun to demo, but I wouldn't put any money down on it, at least not in it's first revision.
Good review on the Macbooks. My opinion is that they are still way overpriced, considering the economy. I think the unibody thing was a good idea though. I myself am not buying as I recently bought a Sony Vaio for way less money than Apple wants.

Ah yes but when it comes to point-and-shoots the speed of the card is negligible. Most have very slow refresh rates on the flash, focus and/or time-to-shoot that make the argument of speed on a memory card moot. The only time this makes a worthwhile difference is on a D-SLR. They haven't even touched the diverse brand market that are out there and many cameras, such as Fuji and Olympus, us XD memory cards.
On a separate not I want to pose this question to the community.
There was a lot of debate back in 2007 when Xbox released the "arcade" base unit to replace their "core" unit as to whether it had HDMI output as Microsoft was touting. According to MS it was the major marketing campaign that now ALL units finally had HDMI. The only difference left is hard drives or none. Their own website states this when you look up the differences between the three but the debate was/is that some (arcades) came with and some without.
I personally think either A.) People were confused between the core and arcade because it was more then a repack and/or B.) At the time the change wasn't complete because MS was trying to push "family packs" of the arcade, which DID have the output.
So has Microsoft finally delivered on what was promised in their marketing campaign and given us HDMI, (yes I know the elite is the only one that comes with the cable), output on ALL units??

Great episode!
I would like to comment on a couple items about the show:
* Neuros OSD lacking HD-output --
If your looking for an alternative to Neuros OSD that is both a FOSS friendly product and also includes HD-output then you might want to check out Popcorn Hour at popcornhour.com
* True surround vs. virtual surround sound --
If you want to try out virtual surround sound then use the trial version of SRS Labs' SRS Audio Sandbox. Most virtual surround sound systems work by adding a little reverb to the output to simulate reflection from behind the listener. For some musical genres this works well. For other things this can just be an annoying taint on the quality of playback. While SRS Audio Sandbox lets you adjust these parameters, having to re-adjust periodically can get annoying. Also, some virtual surround sound amplifiers may not have the same flexibility as the SRS Labs' software version.
If only your old amp died and you where happy with the speakers then you don't need to buy another full kit at Tekzilla seemed to be recommending. Instead, just replace the amp and plug in your old speakers. If your old speakers has the amp built into the subwoofer then you may not be able to re-use your old subwoofer but the rest of the speaker should carry over.
