hi,

I'm thinking of upgrading my notebook hard drive. As far as I know, certain chipset only allows up to certain maximum RAM speed. Does this apply the same to hard disk?? Can I use any hard drives with any motherboard/chipset?

thank you,
ben

The only thing you have to watch out for is if your notebook uses a SATA or IDE hard drive...

or SATA2 and not backwards compatible (even though they all are in theory).

Not to mention that you'll either have to use your restore DVD, or find a friend that has a PC with SATA support (which is far more common these days) that doesn't mind you borrowing it for a couple hours as you clone your old HD to the new one.

Basically, just flip your notebook, and open up the panel where your hard drive resides and look online for one that has the same interface. (its listed on the label if you don't know what it looks like, or just look up the part number on your favorite search engine.)
