Hi there,

I watched today's Tekzilla Daily where they described how to turn off the automatic file scanning of downloaded files in Firefox in order to speed up the process of getting the file to run, etc.

My Antivirus program is Avast! 4 Professional, which includes such modules as a "Standard Shield" and "Web Shield". Should Avast! still protect my system even if I turn off the option within the about:config settings in Firefox?

I have a whole problem with that tiny episode thanks to the stupid ad on the bottom of the screen you cannot read what to put in the about:config. Next time don't have a stupid ad blocking the information it does not help anyone.

Eek! You're right. Sorry about that - I'll see what I can do. You can always download it also, but in the meantime, it's:

browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone

And no need to get so angry, either. When there's an issue like that, just let us know and we'll fix it. We're not trying to make your life miserable on purpose.

Perhaps a better solution for the popup ads would be to have a bit of extra resolution added to the bottom of the flash video specifically FOR the adverts? That way, content isn't blocked and everyone's happy.

Any thoughts on the original question?

The ad has been moved to a less-intrusive spot.

Yes, your anti-virus software should be sufficient.
