EDIT:
I hate myself for starting a thread before reading.
All of my questions are now answered.

Hey guys!
My parents want a device to watch the movies we have on my server.
So, I have a couple of questions;
I have file-sharing active over our LAN. User name and password protected (RAIDUS). How does it handle that? I assume it's unix based, which means NFS sharing and SMB ( two of the things I hate the most :( )
I am willing to disable RADIUS, but still keep the user permissions.
Encoding? XVID? HD-Playback is not important, since it's a 28" tube-tv.
I'm thinking the A-100.
Thanks in advance,
Yours sincerely
I recommend a PS3.

LOL.
From $150 to $10000. Yeah... not rly.
I'm looking at the cheapest and smallest alternative.
I guess I could just transfer the files over to a USB-Thumbdrive.
I saw a couple of YouTube videos showing that it was able to share things over SMB and Google Media Server.
But as I said, I hate SMB.

I recommend a PS3.
popcorn hour and/or an xbox 360 is better than a ps3 for media. (unless bluray is essential)
Firstly, the 360 plays a wider range of avi, and believe me I have tested with probably a thousand different avi video files ranging from 5 or 6 years old to brand new encoded stuff.
the 360 plays probably about 90% of the avi I have tried and the ps3 plays probably about 50% of the avi I have tried.
with the exception of the bluray player in the ps3 its a pretty poor media player, especially a networked media player, you cant even sort content in your network folders by date added or anything like that lol my old xbox media centre 4 years ago was more efficient and still does things that the ps3 and indeed the 360 cant do  (except hd :( )
I have an old xbox with a very recent build of XBMC running, a 360 and a ps3 being served media from my pc and the internet via tveristy (stupid next gen consoles cant just browse my shared folders grrrrrr) and out of all these 3 "media solutions" the old xbox wins hands down, if it did HD I wouldn't even touch my 360 or ps3 for media.
and going off what my friends are saying and pretty much every review of the popcorn hour player the popcorn hour would be much much better than the ps3, it quite simply has about 25 billion times more format compatibility.

^ Thanks.
I'm also considering buying an Xbox 360 arcade. Since it's cheaper and well... has a browser :)
If what you're saying is true, that it's better - I'm buying an xbox.
Thank you, sir. You made my life easier.
