Looking forward to the actual Avengers movie, what kind of roster do you guys think they'll run with? If they do a New Avengers format, they already have a face for Wolverine, Spider-Man and Ironman, with a Cap coming here. They could throw out a big name for Cage, since he's a fun character to play (how about that Will Smith idea here), and nix Jessica Drew in favor of Jessica Jones as an actual member and love interest for Cage. Fury would be pulling the strings, of course.

As far as Cap is concerned, I'll jump on the Matt Damon boat, but I also don't think Leo is a bad choice. Damon is obviously a good sport (his Kimmel appearances, his Ocean's franchise stuff), and having an amiable guy is important if they're looking ahead to a full-blown avengers movie.

If they do end up doing the Avengers, would you guys want throwaway clips/scenes/mentions of other characters like Affleck's Daredevil or Cage's Ghostrider? Maybe they could do a recruiting scene with Fury and Stark looking over clips of fight scenes from previous Marvel movies.

Pretty sure the roster is Hulk, Captain America, Thor, and Iron Man. Possibly some others. Ant-Man and Wasp maybe? Who knows.

why would the Hulk be on the roster -- they're probably assembling specifically *for* the Hulk. That's what the ending of The Incredible Hulk suggests, anyway.

They are doing a variation on the Ultimate universe in these Marvel movies and the roster for the Avengers is pretty much going to be made up of the people in the Marvel Studios films - Iron Man, Cap, Thor and a few other minor characters I imagine.

It will definitely not include Spider-Man or Wolverine because the movie rights for those characters are held by other studios.

Again, because of rights issues, you won't be seeing Daredevil or Ghost Rider.

Or they could just be going old school. The roster of Marvel movies in work mirrors the original Avengers line-up.

I think it's the old school Avengers in the Ultimate(ish) world.

I think it's the old school Avengers in the Ultimate(ish) world.

It certainly feels that way. I mean all of the Marvel films, including the ones that arent representing the Avengers, have a mix of Ultimate and 616 continuity. They have almost the same origins as 616 but they sprinkle in a good mix of Ultimate aspects of the characters as well.

The rumors of the plot, Hulk vs the Avengers, certainly sounds more like the first Ultimates volume. But everyone should remember that the original Avengers teamed up because of Hulk causing a ruckus (thanks to Loki).

I just hope there is more to the film then just Captain America is found and they fight Hulk. There should be a big villain in this then just a misguided Hulk.

Will The Hulk Be The Villain In ‘The Avengers’? We Take The Issue To Marvel’s President (http://splashpage.mtv.com/2008/10/20/will-the-hulk-be-the-villain-in-the-avengers-we-take-the-issue-to-marvels-president/)
Published by Shawn Adler on Monday, October 20, 2008 at 8:29 pm.

Earlier this year, “The Incredible Hulk” director Louis Leterrier got the ball rolling with the coolest comic idea since the pencil, telling MTV News that he thought his green hero would make a perfect villain — a conflicted behemoth out to fight each and every one of Marvel’s greatest in “The Avengers.” “Iron Man” scripters Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus (who are in talks to potentially write another Marvel franchise) told us recently that they couldn’t agree more, saying they love nothing more than when “good guys have to fight each other.”

If reporters can be allowed causes, then this has been mine — one I’ve championed in every discussion about the myriad possibilities for “Avengers.”

“So YOU’RE the one,” Marvel Studios President of Production Kevin Feige laughed in a recent conversation to talk about “The Incredible Hulk” DVD (read our chat about Feige’s thoughts on the success of the film, as well as why there isn’t yet a “Hulk 2″ here.)

Yes, I’m the one. So the real question, Mr. Feige: should I stop talking it up, or start demanding my 10%?

“Here’s the thing — it is all in the planning stages, but certainly if you look back to any number of ‘Hulk’ comics, or ‘Avengers’ comics, or ‘The Ultimates’ comics or the ‘Ultimate Avengers’ DVD that we released, it certainly makes a hell of a sequence,” Feige said of a possible Hulk vs. Avengers battle, one which Leterrier set up perfectly with the end of his film with the scene depicting Tony Stark counseling a defeated General Ross.

More in link.

The Hulk never ends up being the final baddie though, right? He's an obstacle that they have to overcome, then defeat, and then eventually they come together to deal with the real enemy. Right?

Maybe the first Avengers movie ends with the reveal of a greater enemy. Or maybe Loeb gets his way and has Rulk kick everyone's ass.

“hell of a sequence”
This leads me to believe it'll be a starting point or just any point, but ultimately they'll be allies.

Big news from Newsarama.com!

-Jon Faverau, Robert Downey Jr., and.....Don Cheadle have offically signed for the Avengers!

So it's offical, the director will be the man who did Iron Man and Iron Man 2. Plus Iron Man himself will be in the film played by the original actor. But the biggest shocker that Cheadle (who replaces Terrance Howard as James Rhodes) will be in the Avengers.

Is this a quick cameo or small part on Cheadle? Or is War Machine going to play a huge factor in this Avengers film? All I know is, that the sweetness factor just knotched up to 11.

It's important to note that Favreau signed on as Exec Producer, not as director.

Even if he's just EP, this is still good news. Any input or direction he can give to make sure this movie stays along the lines of what he's created will help.

This is going to be the hardest flick for them to pull off. How do you mesh those worlds together? I imagine it can be done, but putting a Norse God in with the "science heroes" (to steal from Top Ten) without it being silly will not be easy.

What!? I thought he wanted to be director? Well that stinks....I wonder who is directing it though.

But yeah as long as he's part of the film then I know he'll give 100% on making it great. But I'm still curious on what Cheadle's role in the film will be.

Will he be an Avenger or is it just a cameo?

Originally, yes. But then they switched up and put him on Iron Man when they decided to do the solo films first. And thankfully so, his original vision for Avengers was as a comedy.

An Avengers movie is a great opportunity as since most of the other characters have had their own movies to explain their origins, it gives space to introduce some lesser known characters such as Hawkeye or Black Widow.
Apperently EVa Longria has been spotted around the Marvel officies. Possibly in talks for The Wasp?
Personally The Ultimates has the perfect line-up. Hulk, Iron Man, Cap and Thor all have or will have had their own movies. This will leave room to introduce Giant-Man and Wasp. They COULD add Hawkeye and Black Widow but the line-up seems a bit packed. Maybe for a sequel (if there IS one).
