A couple of days ago ... but not today. Opera was refusing to let me get into the "newer version". Switched browsers (actually switched to Opera on my Mac), set my account to "newer edition", and the came back and all was OK.
Relying on online services for all your business needs to both a blessing (online backup, access everywhere) and a curse (do you have a local copy? no online access).
I love the idea ... but the implications scare me.

Can I give you some free advice?
Create a hybrid system using GMail and its IMAP capability, plus a local client that keeps mail (well) locally.
Lifehacker had a good article on doing this with Thunderbird (http://lifehacker.com/software/geek-to-live/turn-thunderbird-into-the-ultimate-gmail-imap-client-314574.php) (the Mozilla Project Opensource Outlook Replacement), but the same can be applied to any IMPA capable email client.
This gives you the advantage of a local copy (offline access), with online access. You will probably find that you use the Thunderbird (or whatever) client in preference to the feature crippled GMail system.
