hi all,

Just wandering,
Does standing a notebook vertically, affects it's performance?
Will standing it cause the notebook to wear faster?
Is there a theory behind this?

thanks,
ben

I've never heard of any adverse affects, but I haven't heard of anyone doing it either... How and why would you?

I just made a DIY notebook stand, it's something like a wall mount. Did it so as not to strain my neck that much when working in front of the laptop for long period of time

I think your only real concern with something like that is just to make sure the fan vents aren't blocked. Otherwise it shouldn't be a problem, think about it, people carry them around in cases all the time, only difference is that it's closed.

I would worry about two things: hot air and the hinges.

Hot air forced out by the fans usually blows away from the computer. Mine blows out the back, so if the laptop were hanging vertically, the hot air would blow on the lower left corner of the screen. That could be an issue, or it might not matter.

If the laptop is hanging from the screen, that could put a lot of stress on the hinges. They aren't designed to be supported that way, so I'd make sure that the wall mount supports most of the laptop's weight from the bottom.
