I've been reading more about the guy, and it really fascinates me.

ie: He was named Citizen of the Year in Chicago in 1997.

He still seems like the biggest dick with the least idea of what he did wrong out of the whole group, but I didn't realize how many strides he had made in Education Reform and whatnot since then.

Just to sort of give this thread a point, anyone out there think Obama should never have talked to or associated with him?

Let's put things in Perspective. Robert Byrd, the longest serving person in the US Senate, in his twenties, was the leader of the local chapter of the KKK, the nation's most famous domestic terror group. BTW, he endorses Obama.

Clearly, someone who Obama may or may no have met when he was eight ("getting started?") and later because they worked on some municipal committees together ("paling around?") is just a red herring.

That women is a piece of work, standing-up in front of people and accusing others of being unamerican.

Obama really had no strong relations to Ayers. There is not story here.

The story is Republican desperate mudslinging.

You trust factcheck.org? It receives funding from the Annenberg Foundation. Annenberg Foundation is part of an even more elaborate conspiracy!! Annenberg Foundation sponsored television programs such as Mr. Rogers and Sesame Street. We all know these programs encouraged pederasty and other sordid things. I spent most of my adult life visiting psychiatrists because my mother sat me down in front of the television and I vegged out to the brainwashing technicolor. I hope more people won't be fooled by the Annenberg Foundation. Imagine what your children will have to pay psychiatrists because of all that Tickle Me Elmo hoopla. I don't wanna say it but the Virginia Tech Shooter had a Tickle Me Elmo patch on his book bag when he was nine. Makes you think, huh? Actually, dude, it's just like Halloween III: Season of the Witch. "Three more days 'till Halloween Silver Shamrock." Then you know what happens to kids after they watched that commercial? You know, right? They like died and that's bad. Well, Annenberg is doing that to kids like now, right now!

I know. I've looked into all of it. Seems like they had a good relationship, but they weren't exactly best friends. I'd be more upset at the city of Chicago, if I were McCain, but that gets him nowhere.

But anyways, thats why I phrased the question the way I did. Does anyone out there think that associating with him at all was a bad thing? I already know everyone's stock answer of "McCain is full of it!"

I guess what it comes down to is "who cares?" There are millions of Americans who are in prison, will be rehabilitated and have to integrate back into society. Does that mean that if I work with a felon, I support their crimes that they had committed previously?

Obama didn't pick Ayers to be on the same board as him and it's unreasonable to assume he did a background check on everyone he ever worked with. There is no real story. He barely associated with Ayers, and everyone else on the board associated just as much (including the Republican who ran the show)

Those are pretty much my feelings, I just thought I'd leave it up for debate if someone had any differing viewpoint. Seems not, which is probably for the best.

A $40,000.00 campaign contribution to get his political career started kinda says otherwise.

He wasn't in charge of the education board they worked on. A Republican was. I fail to see how thats Obamas fault. I work with people I don't care for too.

More to this point exactly, I used to be on the board of a local charity. I have no idea what the other people were up to in their free time or in the past. I wasn't there for them; I was there to help the people that I was helping.

It's off topic but I just have to ask about the name.

My name or the name of the charity? The charity was Big Brothers Big Sisters.

As for my name, you don't believe this is my real name? ;) It's an obscure Growing Pains reference. There was an episode with a passing throw-away line in it about Mike trying to pretend that he was Jewish at school so that he could get twice as many days off. He claimed that his name was really Mike Seaverman.

It's not like Mike Seaver's Man or anything like that.

So, you weren't in a single episode of "Left Behind?"

No, that would be really funny though. Like I had spun it into a whole thing. The Jesus freak's version of Star Trek's red shirts. I'm trying to get convention gigs and shit.
