Anyone ever directly connect two dsl modems without a live phone line?

do you not want to spend a couple bucks on some routers or even less on some switches?

anyway I guess in order for this to work you'd have to jump some software hurdles. You'd have to get into the modem software and change some network settings. That's if your connecting the modems directly to each other, If your using your houses phone wires I imagine you'd have to access the control panel where all the lines terminate and re-wire so the modems connect to each other.

like I said before this actually seems like a very interesting project. I'd love to see if it works or if it's even possible.

The modems were free and I have an extra phone line in the wall from the previous owner having a second line. I could use them as a simple hub, but why not try for more?
