About a month ago, I did a fresh install of windows, and it seems ever since then, I can't stay logged in to Rev3. At first, it was just when I signed out of Firefox. Now almost every single time I visit the site, I have to log in. I'm making sure to check the "Remember me" box, if you're wondering.

This hasn't happened to me before, and I don't really think the fresh install has anything to do with it. But, it sure does get frustrating to have to log into the boards every single time I come to the site.

I remember quite some time ago I had this same problem but it went away. However, over the last couple days it's returned. I have to sign in every time. It's really annoying.

Seriously!! Any other msg board I belong to lets me stay logged in. This is beyond annoying.

Still happening to me everytime I leave the site. And I have to type it in for some reason, no auto-find going on.

Ah ha! That's what it is (tested)! I never noticed the pattern before, nice catch!

Nope, still can't stay logged in.

It's occasionally doing it to me when I leave the site, and come back. Also if I quit the browser completely, but yeh, it's doing it even with an open rev3 page, if I put the puter to sleep and come back on, if I click on a thread, it redirects to the log-in.

Chuckles, this started happening to me when I cleared my browsing history and cache, when trying to solve my download problem, I understand having to re-log in the first time, but it's still been doing it since. Made me realise that I haven't actually logged in, for months and months and months. I've logged in more times in 1 day than in 6 months.

I stopped worrying about staying logged in months ago. It never seems to work.

BUT, I am now annoyed that the items I have read are showing unread. They show last post dates of 2-3 days ago, and I have even gone back in them to "mark as read" but to no avail.

Yeh that happens every time I come back. It's always marked threads unread after I post in them which I find annoying, but that's happened forever since I got here and I'm used to it.

I am fine with the "unread" after I post, but it keeps saying the last time I visited was 11-18 at 7:23PM EST. I have been here everyday since and have posted several times. Somehow it doesn't update that I have been here.

Same here...it's saying 'You last visited: 11-19-2008 at 02:13 PM' and doesn't seem to register when I visit afterwards.

It used to just do that over the course of a day, but update it eventually once a day or so...so at least it'd reset while I was sleeping. I dunno, maybe the last visited thing never was set properly in the cookie, and something they changed earlier in the week just made it more noticable.

I will say, it's annoying...particularly on dialup, since 'mark this forum read' gets rid of new posts icon, but doesn't seem to reset to where the new posts from there start. (Meaning, you mark posts read, and then someone posts in one of the threads and you click that 'take me to the new post' and it'll take you all the way back to the post from the 19th, for me)

Edit: ok, I managed to get the 'last visited' to change by going to the main forum listing and clicking mark forums read on the bottom. Closed the browser and came back and it's still saying today rather than the 19th.

When you leave the forum, do you just close your browser or do you actually log out?

I don't even grab my coat when I rush out the door/tubes. So no logout (never have).

Try logging out the next time around to see if it updates your last visit time stamp.

Are you using Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2 by any chance? I've been having the same kind of problem on that when I use it.

Still not staying logged in here. Quite annoying problem.

Yeh me too, it's very inconsistent. I had a 12 hr power outtage the other day. Needless to say, my puter was on at the time. When the power came back on, jumped on internet and hit the forums, and even for a new session, after restarting computer, modem, browser... I didn't have to log in. Then I surf away to email, come back 2 mins later, and I have to log in again, and all my past weeks of read threads are un-read. I log in probbly 80% of the time I come to the site.

Hey Chuckles,
I am able to stay logged in, so thank you for that BTW. At first I thought that was my biggest annoyance. But now I am still having trouble with the forums marking the threads I have read. I have to "mark all read" after breezing through the forums. Yet, there are times when I want to go back to something unread and I have to remember it.

Basically, it sucks. Anything I should do, or that you can do? I think you mentioned elsewhere that its being worked on. Any progress?

This is still being worked on and should hopefully be resolved during our next major code release.

Once upon a time I could stay logged in. After a forum update or whatever a few months back, this is no longer the case. So whatever you did broke my ability to stay logged in. :P

Funny, the last time I had to actually login was when I originally registered.

The only thing I could see causing this issue is the name of the cookie the board sets. I've seen this happen with phpBB based boards (yes I know its no phpBB, but the solution may apply here) where people just install the software without re-naming the default cookie name. If you only visited that board, its not an issue. Its only an issue when you jump on another board with the same name cookie. A simple renaming of the cookie should solve the problem.

What's the deal on threads resigning back to 'unread', after a session? I'd like to mark all subscribed threads 'read', as recently, ALL subscribed threads have come up 'unread' for me. Also, does it have to say 'unread' when I was the last one to post ?

Yeah, I've noticed that happening more frequently of late...it used to be, the thread reloaded after posting and marked my last post as read along with it.

I'm not a computer wiz . . ... but wouldn't that be pretty much auto ? My entire CP says all threads are unread ( I closed firefox earlier today) except the ones that actually were (posted in since I closed FF)....not including the ones I just posted in, which are marked unread.

When does it say you last visited?

Yeah, it should mark a thread read after I post, but it doesn't always...

Well I guess I exagerrated a little. Last visited was 12/06, so everything since then is unread - whether it is or isn't. The thing is, it says it's unread since the day I last visited, not since the day I read the last post in the thread.

Right...that's the issue I mentioned awhile ago...only way around that right now for me is physically telling it to mark the whole forum read so it registers a different day I last visited.

I believe that's what Chuckles said will be in the next code release.
