Hey gang-- our plan is to start a viewer-mail portion of "scam school," where I answer questions from you guys on the air. We're shooting the next batch of episodes in only 3-4 days, so I need your questions ASAP!

Mail me questions directly at Brian@revision3.com, or you can post them on this thread. They can be questions about past episodes, tales of success (and failure), questions about the "when" "where" and "how" to pull off certain scams, questions about whether something you see is a scam... you name it.

Just get them in as quick as you can! :-)

Awesome! I'll have my camera out for a podcast shoot tomorrow, so we'll record a question for Scam School while I'm at it. :)

It will be cool to hear your story about how you got into learning and preforming magic tricks, scams, sleight of hand stuff, fire eating, etc. You began in college with the 'Royal Road to Card Magic' and left Dell to do Fire Eating, didn't you?

Also, how you just came to know how to do all these little tricks that you do would be neat.

What's the best way to submit a video question?

My biggest question has always been "where to begin" when it comes to doing a scam.

Brian, can you give us some examples of intros you use when you begin your scams, as I would think "Hey, you wanna see some magic" wouldn't work that well in your local biker bar.

(I would also think a camera crew would grease the skids pretty well too).

rabidbadger

yeah, he's gotta a headstart with a camera crew. Gets the egoists attracted. And that's a good thing. Better than quiet shy folk for the show. Jerod for example.

How do you get the bars to agree to having a web TV show "filmed" in their bar?

How do you handle a tough audience who constantly tries to mess your trick up? For example, people who insist on not telling you which card they were thinking of when you try to perform the Mind Control Scam, or people who insists you to shuffle the deck of cards their way.

(psst... I found the best matches in the world to do the human chimney with--it makes crazy billows of smoke! ... if someone asked a relevant question, I could show you guys what brand I found...)

Not that I'm trying to feed you questions or anything.

I've found that matches with white heads make the best smoke, and have been told that strike anywhere matches work really good as well, but have not been able to get any recently

Do you have any favorite props that you use for tricks? Any certian brands of playing cards, special type of matches, or anything else that can help us perform the tricks?

How does the approach for a scam in the epsoide work? Has anyone ever not signed a release?

What is your record for drinks scored via scams in one night?

If you could only pull one scam for the rest of your days, which one would it be and why?

Is Mr. Happypants going to make a scam school appearance....using the dark side to score a free drink or someone's soul???

Dude, I sooo want a Mr. Happypants finger puppet!.

Brian, you have to work out a way to have 1/3 scale Mr. Happypants finger puppets. What a great item to pic up after the shows. I got the idea when I looked at my thumb wrapped up in the Aiken, SC pics.

While I may spend a few hours each week at the bar, I spend 40+ hours sitting in a cubicle. Are there any scams that we can pull at the office with various office supplies?

(I've already done Nim (the original) using paper clips, but I'd be interested in any other office-related ideas.)

I posted this in another thread, but it may have been buried, so I'll mention it here:

Do you have any wonderfully good or bad stories about magic/scam fails (not including the 'first trick you ever bought' or your 'first attempt at the knife test' both of which are wonderfully epic)?

More importantly, how do you handle a misfire? For example, say you accidentally lose control of the key card (an amateur mistake) and it gets shuffled in? Or maybe you instruct your mark to cut the cards and he shuffles them instead? Do you back out of the trick? Start over? Put a blade through your hand...?

minton

Since they have yet to be answered I'll ask them again

Do you have any favorite props that you use for tricks? Any special type of matches, specific brand of playing cards, or anything else that can help us perform the tricks? (I have noticed white tipped matches work better for the human chimney)

How does the approach for a scam in the epsoide work? Has anyone ever not signed a release?

i was gonna email, but damn this thread has so many questions, I may as well just post it here.

Has there ever been a trick or a scam, that you saw and thought "there's no way in hell l'm doing that"??

I noticed that during the bbliveshow with Daniel Garcia, he did the ripping the card trick. But from your angle I assume you could possible tell how he was doing the trick, So my question to you is. Do Magicians like to share tricks with other magicians?
