Just got an email from them about one of my videos having a song in it an that i should take it out and replace it with something else.

The reason most people use youtube is for finding music and stuff(for sure thats what most do in my final cut class lol) yet I keep hearing about them taking stuff down and now i got my warning to cut my stuff also.

Ive had that video on youtube for along long time...They will prob take it down.

The song fits the video and how felt about everything and i dont know of a song that could fit nor why i should....I think im kinda done with Youtube anyways.

I keep hearing should use Vemo or something? i forgot what it was......but what has everyone been switching to?

Had the same thing happen to me two weeks ago. A video of some charity work I did set to a small piece of a Black Eyed Peas track.

I think it's disgusting personally.

They seem to have gone on a bit of a rampage lately, deleting a lot of videos.

I'm confused...hasn't it been their policy to remove videos containing objectionable material or copyrighted works for awhile now? I would guess that either someone complained, or they do the occasional searches and remove things.

Yep that video with the some from Audioslave.

and yes it has been in their agreement for along time but...its what made them famous. they seem to just now be getting around to putting their foot down.

which is a bad timing with so many other sites poping up

Actually dont blame youtube, my understanding is they only take down what is brought to their attention by concerned parties and the rule is, it comes down and you can contact them and show its fair use and they will put it back up. They dont want to get sued is all. They take down what they are told to take down by the RIAA and MPAA. DMCA laws need to change, not youtube. Like wes, im sure you can get yours back up. The mccain campaign had to deal with a similar situation.

Blame the douche who saw the video and complained about it.

So what should I do? Im not making money off it of course and its not in a bad way, its showing friendship and what not, IM pretty sure at the end or in the side Info area i listed the song and artist and what not.

If the song was Creative Commons, that would be enough. Unfortunately, major labels don't do CC so using it at all without permission (and paying) is a violation of copyright. Like, iccanui said, Youtube (Google) is only doing what they have to do to avoid getting sued and losing whatever deals they've made with the entertainment industry.

Nothing.

Agreed, because there's nothing you can do...

I'm surprised about this though. A couple months ago I got an email from Youtube about a song on one of my videos, all they did was put up an extra advertisement above the video info, and they even explicitly said I could keep the video up.

ya, I gave up on youtube long ago,

It is no longer what it once was. Google's nazi-ish video deletion aside, the site is cluttered with ads and its too commercial now.

When I uploaded my last TRS montage (which uses the song "You've Got a Friend in Me"), it was immediately flagged for copyrighted content with a note saying that they weren't rejecting it but the copyright holder would monitor it for number of views, blah blah blah. Well, I guess those 200 or so views were too much for Disney because they yanked it some time later, although they never told me that they had, in fact, pulled it. The link for that montage in my sig now goes to Vimeo who, as far as I can tell, has no problem with the content. (My only complaint is that the audio in the Vimeo version is now slightly out of sync. Oh, well.)
