Is this worth grabbing a PS3 for?

i can't talk about the content openly, since there's an NDA.

but it has a lot of potential. the beta REALLY IS a beta - and you'll see when they open it that all the people foaming at the mouth* to get into the beta will be grossly disappointed by there being "nothing to do"

my view on it is not as grim as adolson's, though. there's a lot of room for content and i think it will be fun.

buy a PS3 because it's a great gaming and media system.

*by foaming at the mouth, i mean the maniacs on message boards filling out petitions, threatening to sue (i'm serious) and threatening to buy an xbox if sony doesn't let them into the beta

LOL I was thinking of doing that but didnt know who else had the Beta.

I also think Home will get more fun when everybody will have access to it. It is kinda boring with out the rest of your friends.

If I get into the Home beta, I'll be sure to join or when it's finally released.

The terms of agreement are that you can discuss it with other testers and close friends. So...

Zack, buddy! Old pal! Home blows.

But get a PS3 anyhow... They are awesome. I know, you have a 360... Well, I don't see a point to owning both consoles (Wii, sure, that's different). Unless you want Blu-ray ability and all of the exclusive games (I'd also suggest buying games where the PS3 is the lead SKU for the PS3 as well... And online games, unless paying for Live is your favorite way to spend money).

Anyhow, the terms we agree to are superficial at best. The first thing IGN did when they got into the beta was post video walkthroughs... The PS Blog posts content to tease those fortunate enough to not have beta access... I don't think there's much of a secret to Home anymore, at all, to anyone.

And hey, scooie, just think of the crappiest thing you could think of, and then think about how you could make it crappier - that's Home. There, now that I've lowered your expectations, maybe you won't find it to be so bad after all...

The one thing I'm really glad about, though, is that Sony chose a more mature look for the digital representation of their users. It doesn't make me want to vomit like when I see the creepy NXE pics that everyone is posting in the other threads. More and/or easier customization is needed, though.

I agree on that, Home has a more real look then say the Mii's or the horrible avatars.

But i havnt looked into it...can i make my dude fat? like really look like me or will he be chunky like my Avatar?

I think Home could have a lot of potential especially say with presentations. Display some videos you made live with some friends. I'm just hoping Playstation doesn't restrict users. I feel kind of limited with my 360 sometimes. I hated having to burn DVDs of files to watch on my 360, but love the copy to hard drive w/ PS3.

As to owning both 360 and PS3, I can see reasons to owning both. I enjoy my PS3 as a media device, and really addicted to Netflix on 360. I also enjoy the exclusive games both systems have to offer. Blu-Ray is nice and if Microsoft weren't being pains in the asses developing a format they had no real cares for... but that's for something else. Plus, I've owned most systems since the Nintendo or I've gone back and bought them for less then originally priced. I'm just a big enthusiast anyways so I love whatever I own and happy with all my current gen systems.

I got in, didn't even know I was trying. @_@

The thing I hated most about the PS3 was the download times, and well... It's going to be a pain here.

Anyone going to be on from 6-8PM for that Home thing they're doing?

I figure, with this being the only beta on the PS3 I was interested in, I won't get in until it goes public.

You can't make them too fat, but you can give them a bit of a beer belly.
I got my invite last night and spent probably about 10 minutes just tweaking my avatar, including adding said belly.

Home looks like it will be good for meeting up with people prior to a planned multiplayer match, or chatting with one of your PSN friends, but I doubt I'll use it too much myself. They are apparently going to tie in rewards for Home based on earned trophies, so I'll be interested to see how that pans out.

I agree with that, but even more perplexing is the inability for me to accurately represent my facial hair choices in Home... LAME.

I was initially let down by the beta, but then I remembered that it's just that, a beta. It definitely has a lot of room to grow, but I just hope they can add a bit more before it reaches the public's hands, otherwise people are gonna moan and groan forever.

The beta will open up before Christmas.

Who cares, though? I think they should delay it... and replace it with something else entirely.

You can experience Home yourself - RIGHT NOW - by watching this video:

There, you've just seen about 50% of Home. The other half is loading screens and downloading areas.
