View Full Version : Raddest TV Theme Songs
I'm sitting here watching the Office tonight, and I watch the very beginning, then the theme song bit comes on. I go to skip it, and I just can't bring myself to do it, because of the awesome song. What shows, either current or past, could you just not bring yourself to skip the theme song to?
Currently, I include The Office(US) and True Blood in that list? Thoughts?

I really really like Sons of Anarchy theme. Dexters theme as well. I'm sure there are more but those are all I can think of at the moment.

CSI:NY ... I love "Baba O'Riley", even when it is bastardised into 30 seconds. Actually all the theme songs form CSI are good. Love "The Who".
And speaking of "The Who" ... one of the most iconic instrumental soundtracks ever recorded especially for a TV show.

I really really like the orchestral feel of the current theme. Loses none of the original feel, but amps it up a notch.
Then you get this one ... the second best SciFi show theme from the BBC

And in repsonse the "The Equalizer" above (loved that show), another theme that is instantly recognisable and sets the mood for the show ... and on litening could almost be a variation of The Equalizer if the franchised shows like that back in the 80's ... "The Equalizer: Miami"?

Fringe theme does nothing for me ... X-Files had an iconic theme, Fringe ... meh.
Magnum could have been the theme music to any generic action show of the time. I am not sure if is just the instrumental style of the time but could have been inserted in any of the Larson / Bellisario / Cannell shows of the 80's. Rcognisable, but when surrounded by so much sameness - not really rad.

Some of the kids shows from my youth are included in this category. Gummi Bears and The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh are a couple of definites. I also really dig the theme to How I Met Your Mother.

Have you heard the full version? In season one dvd extra features they have a video of chopped up footge from the show, with all the cast members mouth graphically manipulated to be singing the whole song. I imagine you already knew this, but the song is written/performed by the guys who created/write the show.

I start out liking most themes, but I eventually get to a point where I'm like, OK, just the show please. But a couple that have never made me pull my hair out...

I also agree on Doctor Who, but I did not like it when they changed it to the current version, I heard it and I'm like, "OK, who screwed with this then?" but still good. And of course everything was better when you were younger... so many good themes from back in the day. Saved By the Bell, Power Rangers, TMNT, Thundercats, Ren & Stimpy, Freakazoid, the Are You Afraid of the Dark theme was always perfect too.

Airwolf had a great theme song. I forgot about it.
There are a ton of British shows which I've never watched(being American). Any good ones to check out? I've watched Torchwood and Jekyll, loved em. Couldn't get into Doctor Who, unfortunately.

My favorite currently on would probably be How I Met Your Mother.
As for all time, my favorite instrumental themes would be Stargate SG-1, MacGyver, Airwolf, Magnum PI, and Dynasty (even though I never watched it, I just love that trumpet). My favorite themes with lyrics would be The Fall Guy, WKRP in Cincinnati, and Perfect Strangers. And then there are the cartoons: Gummi Bears, Rescue Rangers, DuckTales, and Batman: The Animated Series.

Hello TRS, this is my first post!
Totally agree that How I Met Your Mother, X Files, and Malcolm in the Middle are great, but the first show that comes to mind for me was definitely Veronica Mars. My husband and I watched it on DVD and could never bring ourselves to skip through the opening song.
Also, the TRS theme song is constantly stuck in my head. Like all the time.
And yes, I am a girl. :)
