I just plugged in an old 21" Dell P1110 monitor to a spare PC (the 17" Sony - though good quality, the size was too small). I realised why I retured the monitor - it is too bright, has the scan line showing on the screen, and is fuzzy.
I need to do some tuning. I know that if I take the back off the monitor, I can adjust the damn thing, but need some guidance on what needs to be done.
Anyone got a link that they can share with me??

Try out Adobe's Gamma Adjuster. Comes free with photoshop.

If the monitor's built in brightness controls do nothing if you have an ATI or Nvidia card they have color profile management thingys in their control panels. Also, you won't be able get rid of the horizontal lines if the monitor uses Triniton technology:

mine has the lines and i dont even notice them anymore. I don't think you can adjust the sharpness of a monitor really maybe try different resolutions? Good luck.
