I'm not sure where to put this since its a video game related question, so if it needs to be moved don't get too mad at me. Anyway, my dad apparently wants to get back into gaming *he left it way back in the SNES days* and he likes soccer. But I'm not really a sports game fan myself and I don't know the intricacies of either series. He wants to play a FIFA game, but I've played some of the demos and I found them hard to play/understand. My main question is which one is easier to learn to play or, if you're up to it, which one is the "better" game? He doesn't really care what year it is, so I don't care if FIFA 09 is the better game "this year". I would just like to know in general. Thanks in advance.

I checked the metacritic score and FIFA got 87 on 360 and PES only got 74.
I plan on getting FIFA

Fifa is the best game this year on 360, but if he wants to get back into gaming I'd suggest getting the Wii version if you have a Wii. It has a more variable level of complexity.

Definitely FIFA this year, it's a fucking SOLID game.
Been a PES player for many many years, I can honestly say this year FIFA is a better game though. Though PES is easier to play most definitely, hope this answers your question.

Fifa 09 basically runs my life I am so addicted to it, I think I need help =(.
Also if anyone on the forums wants to start a club on fifa 09 for the 360 let me know cause Id love to start one up.
I love playing FIFA 09 online. People are pretty good though, so be careful. :)

Alright, well seems like I'll start my dad on PES and then we'll migrate to FIFA. He's gaming on a PS2, so all the newfangled stuff is outta the question. Eventually though, if he really likes gaming, I can sorta see him playing some 360.

I bought both FIFA and PES this year.
Its a difficult choice. This is going to sound like a cop-out answer but both games are really good and it will depend on your preference.
FIFA has way more licenses. They have the full English Premier League, MLS and a lot of other leagues around the globe. PES has two teams from the EPL (Man Utd. and Liverpool) and the rest are generic team names and uniforms. PES has an insane uniform and team editor so you can change everything but it can be kind of a pain.
FIFA's graphics are way better too. PES has more realistic faces and some better animations in certain instances for me but overall FIFA blows it away.
Where PES becomes my personal game of choice is in gameplay. PES feels like soccer. The way the ball bounces and players react and how each game and each goal feels different and unique makes it my game. PES also has a great pick up and play quality to it that I last had with the High Heat baseball franchise. FIFA's controls were very difficult for me to get the hang of. Not so with PES. FIFA's gameplay also had way too many gameplay quirks that I couldn't overlook like CPU players dribbling out of bounds or dribbling right into the goalie on breakaways.
I would suggest renting both and then deciding. Its not an easy call this year.
Sorry for the long-winded answer. If simplicity and solid gameplay are what you're looking for, I would go with PES.

See I am just the opposite I think PES is hard to pick up and play and I was really weird for me. Fifa seemed much more natural.
But I only played PES for about 10 minutes so I need more time with it.
