I saw this On Demand last week, and while I hope it grows on me, I thought it was very flawed and I was ultimately very disappointed. It's a bit tragic considering this was probably my most anticipated movie this year.
Poor qualities:
The main villain is cartoonish and too easily detestable (just his face screams "hate me"). Never for one second do you think "Maybe this guy's in the right."
It goes for an overly sentimental, overly sympathetic ending.
The tacked on love story went absolutely nowhere and was as unnecessary as the girl's stutter.
Good qualities:
Michael Rapaport is an inspired casting choice. Excellent job by him.
You do care about the main character and worry about his well-being.
I understand if people love this movie. I wanted to soooo bad, but I just couldn't ignore some of the things I listed above. Am I being too harsh? You'll probably think so.
