Well, after a few weeks of hunting on Craigslist I finally made off with a great deal on a backwards-compatible PS3 and was wondering what games people could suggest I play. I missed out on all ps2 games and only have The Orange Box, Burnout Paradise, Flow, and PixeljunkEden for the PS3 so far.

Also, if you want to be among the first on my friendslist, feel free to add me! My username there is the same as my username here (and everywhere on the internet), just put TRS in the text of the request.

If you missed out on PS2 games, go buy God of War 1 & 2. Two of my favorite games from that system. Final Fantasy X can be debatable but it was one of my favorites since probably 8. Kingdom Hearts 1, 2 and I believe Chain of Memories is being released on it soon. There were so many good PS2 games that I haven't gotten rid of my system because I'll go back and play them.

For PS3, I got mine awhile back. Own Resistance 1 (good looking, but I tend 2 die a lot), Little Big Planet (fun game to pick up & play), Karaoke Revolution (addicted and decent price for bundle w/ a microphone), Soul Calibur 4 (sale on Amazon :D )

Played Star Wars Force Unleashed and it was fun but short. Also, found it to be all over the place where I'd get killed a lot for stupid stuff and throw in long load times per death and wasn't worth buying for me. Played Spider-Man: Web of Shadows and disliked it within 5 minutes and it froze so I returned it to BB.

Edit: feel free to add me my username is same on PSN but don't play online much. LBP I might start to though, just need a head set.

Agreed...I'd also add Shadow of the Colossus.

I'd throw in ICO and Okami too, if ya can find them. Also the Metal Gear series, starting with MGS on the PSX, MGS2 and MGS3 on the PS2, and then MGS4 on the PS3.

Okami should be easy to find for PS2, though ICO I think I've never seen.

What I would recommend depends largely on your tastes and if you have a 360 and if so, what games you have.

But here are some I'd generally recommend:

Oblivion
Fallout 3 (though I have yet to play it, myself, I trust Jeff and Bethesda)
Resistance
Resistance 2
Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (Tomb Raider done right, and without a female protagonist that appeals to lonely teenage boys)
Valkyria Chronicles (if you like turn-based strategy/RPGs with beautiful art style)
Metal Gear Solid 4
LittleBigPlanet
Dead Space
BioShock
Gran Turismo 5 Prologue (IF you buy a Logitech Driving Force GT wheel)
Battlefield: Bad Company (mostly for online)
Call of Duty 4 (only for single player - short, though)
The Darkness (loved it, and it's really cheap now)
Godfather: The Don's Edition (better than GTA games)
Assassin's Creed
darkSector (closest thing to Gears of War on PS3 right now, and it's good)
Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock (still the best music game for single-player)
Medal of Honor Airborne (pretty good WWII shooter, online sucks though)
Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 (online co-op missions = awesome)

Downloadable PSN titles:

PixelJunk Monsters
Super Stardust HD
Linger In Shadows
echochrome
Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty (after you finish RCF:ToD)
WipEout HD (price is too steep for me, but I want it)
Novastrike (if you are into the idea of supporting self-publishers, this is the only one on the PSN so far, I believe)

I'm probably forgetting some, but that should be most of what I'd suggest.

I am at work, and often forget to add people when I get home, so you can add me if you like. I've got room for one more. ;) (PSN is adolson).

*shameless plug* I started an ad-free, PS3-focused site. I coded it from the ground up, starting with a blank file in the vim text editor. Recently I launched game reviews. I've been getting hits like crazy this month - 17K in one day last week alone. I launched it in July with a few other TRSers, and after a few staff changes, there are two of us left, amongst the five of us. Anyhow, you're welcome to check it out, review games, write blogs, get your daily news... Link in sig. *shameless plug over*

I have been working on my wife to get a PS3 for awhile. LBP is thew game that pushed her over the edge ... to the point that we'll be making a trip to Michael's later today so she can get some brown wool to crochet a "life sized" sackboy.

We haven't bought it yet. But expect to do the deed on Friday. If the right deal comes along ... not telling where, that would dilute my chances at a PS3 inc LBP and Pirates of Caribbean trilogy on BluRay, and DVD Remote for $199. If that falls through, I'll be buying a retail 80GB box via Amazon/Sony Card.

Anyway - LBP is the gateway game I have been waiting for for my wife. Something cute and fun she can enjoy. I'll be picking up GT (I love racing games) and Fallout 3 for myself later.

That's awesome, haha. Pics of it could probably make the rounds on the various sites out there (pretty sure I've seen similar things on PS3FB, Kotaku, etc... Lots of Nintendo cakes on GoNintendo and whatnot).

My wife loves LBP as well, though she's been too busy to play it much since the retail game released (new job, and all that).

I just picked up Gran Turismo 5 Prologue on Friday. It was free with the purchase of the Logitech Driving Force GT wheel, and I really don't regret it. I hate racing games. Or did, until I got the wheel. Now I don't think I can go back to SIXAXIS/Wii Remote (never did like analog stick for driving). I still suck at driving, but it's fun. Love the force feedback. Highly recommended.

You know where to find my PSN ID when you do get your PS3. ;)

It's sad but I forgot I owned Uncharted. I look forward to playing it later. On a sad related note, I think I'll be picking up Tomb Raider for 360 possibly. If I buy the game, I'm hoping the DLC is worthwhile. Kind of annoying that I have to see what system gets what perks now. Although that fact is making me less eager to buy a game period.

Anywho, a game available on original X Box and PS2 that I need to recommend is Ultimate Spider-Man probably one of the best Spider-Man games. Linear story, open world environments, great art style, and a game more people should play.... *crosses fingers* maybe a sequel someday.

From what I've heard, TRU seems like sections of the game were cut out, specifically for DLC... So your choice to go 360 is probably the best move in this particular case.

Myself, I don't own a 360, though if I did, I would still be buying it on the PS3 because I prefer the controller. Plus, the DLC is likely not free, and I am not a fan of putting more money into a game to get stuff that should have been on the initial disc.

I don't know the details of this agreement between Microsoft and Eidos for this exclusive DLC, but considering that over half of the TRU sales so far have been for PS3, Eidos might want to do something about the DLC situation, because that's a large number of people who won't have the... privilege of paying for more content.

I'm either getting it for Christmas or renting or buying it later on myself, as it looks pretty good - DLC or not.

Definitely...especially when it tends to be that any PC version likely won't get any, and will be out weeks/months later.

What makes me laugh most is it seems that PC gets the most content for free. Especially involving games with Valve. There's a good chance I may start making a move back to PC for a lot of things. Especially now that I have a rig that can handle some good graphics.

Well, compared to the 360, anything has more things for free.

But you're right, it does vary a bit by company.
