I haven't watched the video becasue I'm at my parent's house for Thanksgiving and their internet is incredibly SLOW. I'll check it out when I get back to a faster internet connection.

This thread did grab my attention because of Star Trek though. I'm a complete noob when it comes to Star Trek, but I've always been interested in getting into it. I'm just not sure how to. . . Also, the new Abram's Trek movie coming out is just another reason for me to get into Trek as well.

"Mind you im going through star trek from start to finish right now and really starting to dig it"

When you say you're going through trek from start to finish what do you mean? Just the movies? If so what order? Or do you mean all the tv series? For someone whos knows nothing about star trek, all the different series confuse me. Is there an order to watch them in?

Any help or tips to getting into trek would be appreciated. . . THANKS!

okay. the shows in order are
enterpise
star trek the original series (tos)
star trek the next generation
star trek deep space nine
star trek vorager

that is the chronological order. now having said that i would tell you to skip tos and vorager. but that is a personal choice. tos is old and while it has good stories i not sure if you would get into that. vorager is just bad until the last season.

Skip TOS ( the original series ) ? Jesus man. How can you skip the one that started it all ? There is some down right brillant episodes there. The drama of watching kirk devolve to a over actor from season 1 to 3, learning to really appreciate spock, getting introduced to chekof. Anyway, i can see why you might not like it, but i loved it.

All i can say is this. Watch them all and see what you like. As com just showed, everyone has their own opinion and its all valid. Like wine , there is just different ways to go about watching star trek. Me, im going through all of them from start to finish in chronological order. Im skipping Enterprise for now cause i wasnt impressed when it was on. I personally highly suggest watching TOS. Its different, its from different time, the 60's and if you ask me thats the interesting part of it. The cultural difference, the start of sci fi special effects, its worth looking at and me personally im half way through TOS and looking forward to the directors cut of the first movie.

Im following this...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_Star_Trek

But like i said, im skipping enterprise. But the rest im watching in order of release.

don't get me wrong. i loved TOS. i still watch it on sundays when it comes on a local channel.

i think TOS has the best one off episodes but the series as a whole isn't that good. for me the best series is Deep Space Nine.

the reason i say skip TOS is the high cheese factor. i think that turns alot of people off and it's as bad as the later series.

i am enterprise defending. i loved the show. if it would have been given a fair run it would be my fav.

I can't imagine skipping TOS, but that is the one I started watching at age 5.

I was 11 or so when Next Generation debuted, and I remember the afternoon it premiered waiting anxiously for it to come on, and how friggin' excited I got when the enterprise first split in two.

I keep meaning to go back and watch everything starting with TOS, but that is a massive undertaking and I'm not quite up for it yet.

Thats what i said too and i didnt think i would do it. But you know, it kinda becomes like that old sweat shirt you love or something. I dont watch it weekly or daily, just when i can. When ever i have time and im bored its like " oh yea star trek, sweet ! " and i go and watch it. Looking back on my posts here, seems like its been about a month and im about 1/4 through TOS. Just not even thinking about it and following the timeline.

Now that i can understand. It was a rather long walk to getting back to appreciating TOS as much as i do. And yea, i know enterprise wasnt that bad actually. I dont know why i have these knee jerk reaction to it. I think it was the first time i saw the series and that music came on and i was like ... ummm wtf is this crap. Other shows have punch to it and exciting and that song just put it flat on the floor right off. You know, i almost regret putting enterprise last now, i really should have put it first. Oh well.

I loved the video, and I love Star Trek. That said, I can't bring myself to watch TOS, it just looks too old. Exception: Trouble with Tribbles. My favorite is Voyager, but DS9 has been growing on me as I watch more of it on re-runs.

I can understand that, but if you ask me its still better then some modern shows. Like when i watch Babylon 5, i feel like im in the room, watching a stage with actors, it never is able to draw me in past what it is, a show, and into its world.

For me anyway, TOS accomplishes that, so its age doesnt bother me.

Thanks for all the information. So the consensus is to watch them in the chronilogical order and not the order they were released?

Also, I'm not worried about the "cheesiness" of the original series. I eat up that kind of stuff, and have an unhealthy liking for campiness and such.

Does anybody have any opinions on the Star Trek animated series?

Thanks again!!!
