Veronica gets online at 15,000 feet courtesy of Virgin America. Is the Core i7 a better deal than the Core 2 Quad? Is buying refurbished technology inviting trouble? And how to run CD apps off a netbook PC. All that plus your questions on this episode of Tekzilla.

Regarding the actual episode title "Episode 61 - Get Wi-Fi at 30,000 Feet, Core i7 or Quad Core PC?, Is Buying Refurbished Smart?, and Virtual CDs." (http://revision3.com/tekzilla/promdate/), the phrasing here in the forum is much better, as a machine based on the Core i7 by definition is a quad core PC....

Wanted to point out in the show notes it says "Vigina America" when it should be "Virgin America"

Digsby is a cool program but if you go to install watch out it also wants to install some "extra" programs ya have to decline to not install. In other words adware.

Yah, I was about to install it last week. When I saw all the crapware it tried to install I backed out of it. Too bad, since it seems like a nice program.

It also has a java process that uses your cpu for research when your PC is idle. Which they didn't tell anyone and caused uproar on their forums. You can turn it off but it is on by default.

Just a suggestion for a virtual CD-ROM / DVD-ROM program. Daemon Tools 'http://www.daemon-tools.cc/' is by far the best I have used. Lightweight, easy to use, protection emulation etc. They have added some extra bloat to their installer lately (a toolbar) but is easily un-checked during the install.

How did the Wi-Fi, 3G system perform? Did anyone run any tests from the cabin? Could anyone tell that as more people logged in, the connections became slower?

Hey guys. Just watched episode 61 and there are two CD image tools I swear by and they are both free.

The first is called ISO Recorder and is a simple windows extension that allows you to burn CD's from ISO images or create ISO images from CD's. It's got a simple "wizard" interface and I've never had it not work for me.

The other tool is from Microsoft and is for virtually mounting the images. It isn't as user friendly as the application for making the images but it's free and works very well. I'm told it doesn't work under Vista though but I haven't tested that personally.
