LTSP or the linux terminal server project is one area of linux that is not talked enough about. LTSP allows you to leverage one computer to support many less powered systems. This can be a great cost savings to small businesses. We use and it has saved us a fortune. An even more intriguing fact that it is built into certain mythtv projects. What does that mean do you say? You can watch tv and use the computer in any room where a thin client is setup. You do not have to buy a full computer for every room!!! What is also nice that asterisk can be set up on the server so you can have your own pbx system. Everyone has their own phone which can also can become an intercom. . If you are a parent that has a problem with any of the children using the computer or tv when they are not supposed to, you can cut off that feature without ever going into the child's room. You can automate tv and or computer use so that the server will cut off at bed time or what ever. You can also easily monitor web use of the children. You can even limit what web sites they see without touching the child's thin client. You can also centralize printing so that everyone does not have to have their own printer. Parents can monitor the output easily then. you can easily put a thin client in the garage and not worry about having a hard drive overheating or the dust issue as much. The ideas do not stop coming...... You can buy used thin clients for thirty to fifty dollars and used lcd's for under a hundred dollars. I dare you to buy a second computer and tv for that price. it can't be done yet. ltsp is free. The monitors in the picture were free with a little horsetrading.
