What did you guys think?
I thought it was pretty much ass myself. An hour of guys walking one way followed by an hour of a guy running the other.

It was crap. the whole time i was waiting for some thug banging beer bottles between his fingers and saying "Warriors!!!!! Come out to PLAYYYEEEEE!!!!"
i like remakes of movies that are set in a different period of time.

To all of u who think apocalypto was a piece of crap you all f***ing idiots i saw this movie and i thought it was a masterpiece, before any of you start complaining no i don't think a giant snuff film is a masterpiece. This movie was of beautiful movie with a story that has never been told, at least not that far back in time, the story is very moving, it's about a man captured by the aztecs and has to escape and go back to his village to save his pregnant wife and his his young child, and so is the movie the picture the camera direction everything just this movie had a little more gore then a normal movie should and if you are just saying you won't see this movie because how mel got you pissed i understand but you won't realize the loss ur making by not wacthing this movie this movie is better than the departed, anyways wouldn't you rather give mel between 6-10 dollars of your money for the movie instead of later on buying or renting just to see what its all about and regretting how the audience reacted to ceartain parts, and trust me the audience reacted quite a bit. well that is my two cents on this whole thing sorry if it was so long.
P.S. brian sorry to dissapoint you but if your reading this and haven't seen the movie mel doesn't show up, yes i no you were joking:D
P.S.S. **spoiler** if you don't see it in the theatres your going to miss the audiences reaction to a guy jumping into a tub of water and a girl washing her mouth out because they tried to have a kid and someone played a trick on him by giving flowers that would "help him have kids" and instead burn him and his wife:D

hey buddy i'm just very tired, where i'm at it's 1 30 right now and i've been working on school work and inbetween i come on here, but i appreiciate it that you would at least like my review if i had all the words correctly, but you can't tell me you haven't done that. By the way i'm not trying to be the mean guy or anything and i don't like to be that guy and i'm not stupid, so if you get that impression from reading this i'm very sorry. by the way vegasgeek i never said the gore was the best part in the movie i just said that there was a lot.

ok for starters I don't care how good you claim this movie is, Mel's a douche and he defiantly doesn't make me want to give him $11. The trailers are lame and do nothing to inspire interest. I think I'll wait till it's on tv and watch it for free. (or if I hear a lot of good things and can't wait, then I'll let you in on a secret torrents but shhh don't tell anyone)

You get on here, call us ****ing morons, then ignore ALL laws of punctuation, grammar, and spelling, and expect us to actually give a damn about what you think? Dude, there's an edit button for a reason, and I don't care what time it is where you live.

Pffft! I write a lot longer post and I spell heaps worse then you! I'm also probably older and should know better!
Anyway, this movie based on the trailer I saw looks like bollocks, so I'll probably wait untill it comes out on TV. Especially as I don't want others in the cinema disturbing me while I'm trying to watch a film!

hey everyone i said i'm sorry for my punctuation ok you all probably have done it to so just leave me alone about my spelling, i just wanted to put my opinion of the movie on here that is it don't start getting all mad at me i never said mel was a good person, he might be i'm not saying he is, but it's thoughts like that that prevent people seeing one of the best movies of the year, haven't you ever seen a preview to a movie and called it crap and end up watching it on tv and notice it's actually pretty good?

Just a bit of advice that is very usefull in life. To start off an argument with telling everyone that if they don't agree with you then they are f***ing idiot is not a good way to get people to listen to you.

naw, dude, i think everyone's just rubbed the wrong way cause it says "if you guys don't wanna see it, you're ****ing morons" or something of that nature. So refrain from doing that if you want your opinions validated.
BUT!!!!!!!!...i respect your opinion, well, in that you have one, but i totally disagree, here's why:
I completely forgot about Mel Gibson b/c assholes can still make great art. Triumph of a Will (a nazi glorification film, although with horrendous content) is a gorgeous film.
Anyway, this film is very much a story about Mayans and it is from a perspective of Mayans which is great. One thing, though, is that the film does not take itself seriously enough, either that or the writers are culturally ignorant assholes, or just socially naive.
The Mayans/Natives in this film go through so many jokes and plays on words that only work in english, and social hierarchies, hegemonious interactions and certain family structures which are very much Western and not at ALLLLLLLLLLLLL Mayan, let alone native.
A lot of natives who weren't part of the Mayan empire lived in very egalitatrian cultures where family structure was respected and they did not have the "evil mother-in-law" stigma, among other PURELY american social structures which appear in the film that totally threw me out of it.
If this film wanted to go for realism, it missed the realism completely. If it wanted to tell an epic story, it fell short, and even if it wanted to look great as far as photography went it looked clumsy, random and uninspired.
This film is REALLY entertaining, though. It really is. It's a fun film, but is still about 10% as good as Braveheart. Gibson should've stopped there.
I say see it if you wanna be entertained or are on a date and want to have sort of a good time, but don't watch it if you're looking to see a great film.
and also...not enough national geographic titties AT ALL!!!! (i was kinda pissed about that actually:mad: )

Was anyone else turned off by the HD photography?
It looked great at times but it just as often came off as cheap.

I'm usually not, but in this context, it made itself noticeable b/c of the contrast of the tone of the film vs. the clarity of the digital photography. Superman it worked. This not so much.

I like the trailer. Looks groovy. I have no idea what to expect. I like that. Doesn't happen much with films any more.
It's better than The Departed? So is putting my balls in a brick sandwich.

I liked it. There wasn't a point during the movie where I wasn't completely engaged. I thought the actors for the most part were great. I agree about the HD, some parts looked too much like video. That being said I wouldn't want to shoot in film in the forest.
